Suggestion for use with Royal Canadian Sea Cadets[edit]

Often we find tools too late. Looking at what you are doing (great work, btw), may I suggest you use Template:Todo, and simply install it on the talk page. After you save, IT does everything to list the "to do" stuff. Of course you do have to edit it and put the stuff in there.

It will make you scratch your head for about 2 minutes tops, and then pay dividends.

I'd have added it, but that would seem like forcing my opinion on you :) So just add {{todo}} where oyu want the "To Do list" to appear. You can always remove it if you don't like it :) Fiddle Faddle 20:45, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • See my note on the Sea Cadets discussion page on DND/CF members modifying Wikipedia pages. I also recommend the semi-protection of the page to prevent anonymous posters.

Moved this message for you[edit]

Info for Quadra -

To repeat: - Each of you. Quadra and Sancho have a lot to offer fixing these pages and making them reflect well on the Cadet Organization. You have the technical skills. It is also worth considering that members of the CF are constrained in their ability to produce material for the public on any CF or Government program. DAOD 2008, and Q R and O apply. Therefore precision is paramount rather than perception, guess work, or rumour. It would be counterproductive through your well meaning and important effort to cause a CATO or Routine Order to be constructed and issued thereby amplifying those regulations and further restricting participating in this process by members of the organization unless authorized. That is a serious consideration! - - How much more productive if we could together create something that is unasailable. Right now these pages are neither original research or of any value to anyone who would want comprehensive, knowledge or information about the Canadian Cadet Organization. 131.137.245.198 17:56, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

The SCTSC issue[edit]

It is such a small matter, yet it looms so large. I cannot message the other editor with any degree of certainty because he is IP based. However this message also applies to him. I have placed a request for help at the Village Pump. This is a place were anyone may discuss anything. If we can't reach consensus then I think the only route is mediation. Werdnabot[edit]

I got caught out by that myself. It really should say more clearly that it is only for user talk pages and similar, not for articles. Apparently it confuses some editors when used on an article. I used it elsewhere and was corrected. Ah well, that's how we all learn. Fiddle Faddle 22:15, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:89 RCAirCS Flag Party.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:89 RCAirCS Flag Party.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MECUtalk 20:37, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Frances Kelsey Secondary School[edit]

Hi,

In the future, before you create an article, I would recomend that you read over the Manual of Style. The article on this particular school breaks several MOS rules that need immediate addressing. I will try to fix up as much as I can, and I understand how difficult it can be to start an article from scratch. I would also recommend that in future you create a sandbox (In your case simply start a new page at User:Quadra/Sandbox) to experiment with article style before putting the content into article space, which has much more strigent quality controls. Just a friendly reminder. Thanks, Green451 18:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image ise[edit]

Fair use tagged images are copyrighted and not permitted to be used outside of the main article namespace, per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9. This precludes their use on templates. Thus, the inclusion of Image:Sea Cadet Emblem res72.png on {{Cadets Canada}} is not permitted. Please do not place this image, or any other fair use image, on templates or any other non-main namespace article. If you have questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks, --Durin 19:54, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please stop adding the fair use images to that template. This constitutes vandalism as you are aware of the policy on this issue. If you insist on violating this policy, you will be temporarily blocked from editing. I'd be happy to help you understand this policy and how to adhere to it, but simply re-inserting these images in violation of policy is not the way to go about doing this. --Durin 20:46, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Re: [1]: {{Military-Insignia}} is inappropriate for these images because they are not images of a military rank, such as Petty Officer for example. The {{symbol}} tag is appropriate. Note that it says "This is a representation of a government, military, regimental, family, or other symbol". Plus, these images are found at http://www.cadets.forces.gc.ca/support/pa-ap/2_e.asp which has a supporting copyright notice at http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/notices_e.asp. --Durin 20:50, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Canadian Army Cadet rank images[edit]

I was trying to crop of the text at the bottom the image for the rank of Private, and once I had the completed image, I uploaded it and a strange thing happened. The image was a squashed version of the old image, with the text still at the bottom. Also, the copyright information contradicts itself, saying that it is a rank insignia and cannot be copyrighted, and then it has a copyrighted template. --Jordan Elder talk 18:37, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Perron Col Original.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Perron Col Original.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 07:38, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Athletic_Instructor.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Athletic_Instructor.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:40, 4 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 03:40, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:Corporal RCAirC.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Corporal RCAirC.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD i3.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Videmus Omnia Talk 18:09, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Leading_Air_Cadet.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Leading_Air_Cadet.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 07:31, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Tremblay.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Tremblay.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 16:18, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:RCAC Chief Warrant Officer.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:38, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Training[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Training, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Training. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:HMCS Qu'appelle.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HMCS Qu'appelle.jpg.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:08, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Canadian Air Cadets GA Sweeps Review: On Hold[edit]

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Culture and Society" articles. I have reviewed Royal Canadian Air Cadets and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left this message on your talk page since you have significantly edited the article (based on using this article history tool). Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix with the assistance of multiple editors. I have also left messages on the talk pages for other editors and related WikiProjects to spread the workload around some. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 07:56, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:HMCS Avalon.jpeg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:HMCS Avalon.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 06:13, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:KELSEY.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:KELSEY.PNG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Courcelles 08:20, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
