Managing a conflict of interest

Request reason:

I was unaware that creating a factual site about a local business would be considered advertising. I apologize for making the page seem like I am trying to promote the business. If unblocked, I will try to uphold the standards of wikipedia by making positive improvements in the wikipedia community.

Decline reason:

I share Huon's concern about the vagueness of your response. I would like to hear from you that you have no intention of writing about your company here. It has already been made clear that your conflict of interest interferes with your ability to write in a neutral tone. Other people not related to your company can write about it, if it is notably enough. If you agree not to write in the area you were found to be promotional in then I can discuss with the blocking admin you coming back to work on the project at large. However if your goal is to write about your company(no matter how good your intentions are) then I think the block is valid. HighInBC 15:50, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for being blunt, but " to uphold the standards of wikipedia by making positive improvements in the wikipedia community" is just the kind of vagueness I have come to associate with attempts at PR. I do not think this request should be accepted unless you can tell us in somewhat greater detail what you intend to do when unblocked. Huon (talk) 22:08, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a business directory?
Do you understand conflict of interest?
Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable?

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. As a note as a user regularly dealing with username policy, that this username is technically not a violation of policy. While the username contains the company name, it also has the name of the individual, which implies individual use with a COI. Our username policy prohibits group accounts, but that is not the issue. The issue is that the name is promotional. They do have to change it, and they have chosen another which is good. I have other concerns before unblocking. HighInBC 15:48, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
