Tallest buildings in Mobile
Hi, just wanted to let you know that I uploaded one of my photos of Mobile's old Waterman Building to Commons and added it to the Wachovia Building (Mobile) and List of tallest buildings in Mobile articles. I appreciate the work you've done on this subject. I'll try to run by the Mobile Marriott and snap a few shots within the next few days, to add to the relevant articles. Altairisfartalk 15:02, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've now added a new Mobile Marriott photo to the pages. The quality kinda sucks, it was very humid and hazy when I took it. I'll take more sometime soon and replace it. Also, I removed this statement from Mobile Marriott: "Situated near the Mobile Regional Airport, the Marriott is the tallest building in Mobile outside of the downtown area and the only high-rise outside of downtown to rise higher than 100 feet (30 m)." This hotel is about 3 miles from downtown and about 6 or 7 miles from the airport. It is the tallest outside of downtown, but not the only high-rise taller than 100 feet outside of downtown. I'm not sure about the height of these, but you can view some of them at Providence Hospital, Montlimar Place, and Regions Bank Tower. I'm fairly certain that Central Plaza Towers in midtown would be well over 100 feet too. For List of tallest buildings in Mobile, there are several other buildings in the city limits taller than the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and possibly taller than the Battle House Hotel. In addition to those mentioned above, in downtown the former Lafayette Plaza Hotel (now the Holiday Inn), Commerce Building, US Engineers Building. Also, The Tower on Ryan Park, University of South Alabama Medical Center, the 3 Bay Shore Avenue Towers, and Cathedral Place Apartments may be taller than the Cathedral, although it's probably a very close call on those. Of course, the devil is in the sourcing and I see that Emporis and the Skyscraperpage are no help with these other buildings. Altairisfartalk 22:55, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll see what I can do about the other photos- soon. And I'll eventually see if I can locate some offline sources for the other buildings, but I'm not particularly hopeful. I've already checked Mobile County's tax assessments online, but they don't list height, just floors. I'll let you know when I get the new photos. Altairisfartalk 01:26, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I've added images for the Lafayette Plaza Hotel, Radisson Admiral Semmes Hotel, and Royal St. Francis Building. I brought out my good camera this time and got much better quality images. I took multiple images of each building when possible. All of them are in the Commons category High-rise buildings in Mobile, Alabama. If you would give a me few more days before taking the list to FLC, I would appreciate it. I want to see if I can find some book sources for the heights of several buildings not currently included under the "Tallest buildings" header in the list. They are as tall as or taller than the Battle House Hotel (7-stories), Royal St. Francis(8-stories) and the Cathedral. I think that omitting the buildings we don't have online sources for would be misleading if these shorter buildings are included under the tallest buildings header. The Cathedral and Battle House Hotel definitely belong under the "Timeline of tallest buildings" header but maybe not under the current tallest buildings. The other buildings that most likely would need to be included if the above ones remain listed under the tallest buildings header section are: Commerce Building (12-stories), Cathedral Place Apartments (12-stories), Providence Hospital (11-stories), Montlimar Place (10-stories), Regions Bank Tower (10-stories), US Engineers Building (10-stories). These would be as tall as or taller than the last three listed even if they only have a minimal height per floor. So... just give me 2-3 days and I'll let you know if I find anything. Thanks. Altairisfartalk 22:27, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I've completed a fairly exhaustive search for height measurements of the buildings, all to no avail. There's only two that I'm fairly certain are taller (although probably not by much) than the Van Antwerp: The Commerce Building and Providence Hospital. I focused on Providence Hospital the most, I even went by there to see if anyone could tell me, but they were very suspicious, as if I wanted to know its height so that I could plan to do something bad. :( I guess that's the world we live in... Also, the Riverview Plaza Office Tower is 13 stories, but rises from the same base as the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel (the one with new inappropriate-looking spire). The other buildings are probably close to, but not quite, the same height as the Van Antwerp, in my personal judgment, which could be wrong (except Cathedral Place Apartments, which even at 12-stories is just about even with the tops of the domes on the Cathedral's towers). I searched at the local libraries and at the courthouse, so I'm doubting that the heights of these others are a matter of public record. Do what you think is best, and the good luck with the FLC. Altairisfartalk 20:29, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, a new update. The owners of the Commerce Building called me back today. The height from street level to architectural top is 160 ft. I had already found the date built in the online Mobile County tax records, it was completed in 1958. I've submitted the new data to Emporis and Skyscraperpage, though I didn't know when/if they will add it. I'll go ahead and add it to the list with available sources. I think the easiest thing to do would be to keep the list of tallest limited to buildings over 120 ft. Altairisfartalk 19:06, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll continue working on getting sources. Instead of going in person again, I called Providence Hospital's PR department yesterday, maybe they will get back with me too. Altairisfartalk 05:47, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, that sounds great to me. I'm more than willing to help you work on any issues that may arise at FLC. Altairisfartalk 19:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Renaissance Center is 73 story tower with 70 floors. [1]. The reason is that the restaurant atop the RenCen takes up the three floors at the top in layers. See also Renaissance Center home page. Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 15:48, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 15:47, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago) PR
The Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago) PR is coming to a close at Wikipedia:Peer review/Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago)/archive1. However, I need some expert assistance with succession boxes for the building. I think it needs some sort of succession boxes for tallest formwork building, highest residence from ground level, and maybe more. Can you add these? I suspect it has been passed as tallest formwork already, but am not sure. Is a second tallest U.S. building an appropriate succession box?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 16:12, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help. This is now second in line after Crown Fountain to go to WP:FAC. You probably have several weeks before then. You may stumble upon stuff about tallest formwork by then. It seems that List_of_tallest_buildings_and_structures_in_the_world#Tallest_structure_by_category shows taller concrete towers. Is that reliably sourced?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 15:49, 24 August 2009 (UTC)--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 15:49, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Crown Fountain FAC 4
Issues have arisen at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Crown Fountain/archive4 regarding the skyscraper page, which seems to be temporarily unavailable. Since so many of your articles reference these pages, I thought you might know how concerned I should be. Can you comment on the discussion on this matter. Is there another source for building heights that is reliable?
Also, do you know how to justify http://www.ultrapolisproject.com/Tallest_25_Skylines_Cities.htm as a reliable source or to find this content elsewhere. A comment in the discussion on this matter would also be helpful.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:50, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

200 Greenwich Street
Please accept my apology if I angered you upon this vandalism that you reverted. I was just trying to mention that they would be able to build 200 Greenwich Street if they would just start right away. It's nobody's fault, they're just choosing to be lazy and not work on the building. I really insist that everything would be finished on schedule if those workers would speed it up and not delay. FLRC delegate election
Hi Raime! I'm just dropping by to let you know of the FLRC delegate election that begins on Tuesday. You may run in the election by following the instructions on the page. If you don't wish to run, please come and vote sometime next week! The election starts Tuesday and ends Saturday. For more information, check out the opening section of the page. Idea
This is Bob again. I think another problem is that Silverstein waited until 2006 to start construction. If construction for these new towers began in 2004, there might have been a chance for the buildings to proceed with far less delays, and open even sooner. Why couldn't they just start earlier? Also, do you think that the more workers at the site there are, the faster it can continue. Please respond. Bob.--76.224.119.82 (talk) 03:21, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Abraj Al Bait Towers.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Abraj Al Bait Towers.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Astronaut (talk) 03:23, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

I did take a break, quite a long one. Not you though... 15,000 edits, wow. I had a change of jobs. I'm back in Seoul now, and I have quite a lot of free times in my afternoons, so I started up again. I'm determined to really improve the St. Louis pages. I made St. Louis Gateway Mall a week or so back, and I see St. Louis has loads of buildings that need pages made for them. Same for the buildings at St. Louis Building Arts Foundation. They're not my priority for the moment, but I'll get there eventually. Right now, I'm eager to tackle the board of aldermen and their wards. What city's buildings are you working on now? DaronDierkes (talk) 11:18, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
