October 2009[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at Ricardo Sanz. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Paste Let’s have a chat. 17:14, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:RicardoSanz.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:RicardoSanz.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 23:46, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand the reasons for the blocking; I wasn't aware of the policy against creation of self-pages. This will not happen again. If possible, I would like to continue using this username (rsanz) to keep track of my other edits. My future contribution will be around these topics and my research domain that can be seen at www.rsanz.com.

Decline reason:

Unfortunately, Wikipedia policy does not allow user names which represent organisations, companies, or web sites. However, I would be willing to unblock you if you made a new unblock request, offering a different user name. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

OK. I understand. Can I use "RicardoSanz" as new username? I do not like aliases very much.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline, see below. Huon (talk) 14:04, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That username is just fine. And frankly, you should never have been blocked for a username violation in the first place.

But ... since you also engaged in blockable editing activity, we have to ask before we unblock: Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 20:32, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

OK. I understand. My answer to the three questions is YES. But I must say that I was not promoting any company, group or product; rsanz.com is just my personal website. I was just giving information about my research activity for my students and colleagues. I do not see much difference in this with the extant Wikipedia page about «Ricardo Sanz (pintor)». In any case, I will not violate the 3 important principles that you mentioned. Rsanz (talk) 09:56, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. As an expert on the topic of artificial consciousness, your contributions to Wikipedia could be extremely helpful - if you're not just here to highlight your own work. Your attention needed at WP:CHU[edit]

Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you.  Revi 04:21, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
