Thanks for the Barnstar! I'm going to populate wikipedia with many more photos of historical monuments and buildings of USMA in the coming months. There is so much to do! With USMA's article up for FAC (yikes!), I've been fully engaged with trying to slay the corrective comments, but I'll get more done on Constitution Island soon. When the weather warms up, I'll take the ferry ride over and take some more photos. My family and I have been meaning to take a trip over there anyway. I've put some more photos on the Constitution Island page. I hope I don't overload you with too many. If you wish to exchange or remove any, you won't hurt my feelings. I'll take more when the spring thaw arrives and the trees are green, but you can actually see the terrain better in the winter when the trees are bare. You are correct about the "island" being more of a "peninsula". I almost added something to that effect but did not because you actually could navigate a small water craft around it. The main rocky portion of the island rises about a hundred feet above the river, but the eastern edge connects to the mainland via a swampy marsh. Its my understanding that parts of it are navigable. I suppose you could walk from Cold Spring out onto the "island" but you would get very wet in the process. Though maybe not technically, it is for all intents and purposes, an island. Not sure if that clears it up or makes it worse?  Ahodges7   talk 22:00, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
To finish your question about the Great Chain, no, the British could not sail a large ocean-going ship around the east side of the island. Maybe a small john boat could get around through the marsh if the river were high, but a large draft sailing ship, no way. USMA Supe's photo

The reviewers at USMA's FAC, notably Awadewit and Jappalang could not come to an agreement that File:Franklin Hagenbeck.jpg was PD, despite BQZip01's & my best efforts. The FAC appears to be stalled primarily on the issue of image use and this was the sole remaining image from Awadewit's orginal lengthy list of WP:IUP issues. It appears that she has left the review in frustration over a failure to reach an agreement. I've been "working the phones" so to speak with several reviewers involved, trying to find a solution, and this was the best that I could come up with, short of those two reviewers agreeing that File:Franklin Hagenbeck.jpg really is PD, even though there is no web link to the file that can prove it like there is for File:Sec Def Gates & LTG Hagenbeck at USMA.jpg. I'd love to keep the former picture, but not at the expense of the FAC failing, or even having to be restarted. Any ideas?  Ahodges7   talk 23:38, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Tina Cole Picture

I am a My Three Sons fan (OK, I am a nerd!), and I placed a potentially copyrighted picture of Tina Cole on the Tina Cole Wikipedia article. I wasn't sure how to handle this. You moved the picture (actually the link to the picture) to the Discussion page of the article. Good idea! If, in fact, the picture is copyrighted, then putting the link to the picture on the Discussion Page of the article still allows people to see the picture without a potential copyright violation. More specific coord tags for US subjects

As promised earlier, I'm running a first re-categorization pass to recategorize the {{coord missing}} tags recently added to U.S. articles by state. This should recategorize almost all of these articles in its first pass; I will then take a closer look at the rest later.

Just in case you're wondering why I'm doing this in multiple passes, rather than getting it right first time: I have a number of specialized bots, each of which is customized to handle one small part of the job, including a variety of checks, balances and heuristics for that particular small job. Developing and debugging a particular special case workflow as an all-in-one job would take significant human time to develop, whereas running the individual specialized bot passes one after another only takes machine time. -- The Anome (talk) 19:00, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Local Political Parties

Rogerd, I was wondering what your thoughts were on what are effectively local-level political parties in the UK. I ask because the UK registers all parties (outside Scotland, and I believe N. Ireland and Wales) on one list, but there are a number of local parties.Tyrenon (talk) 00:02, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I have no strong opinion on this matter, since I am not familiar with local parties in the UK, but am mainly familiar with the USA where there are two major parties and several minor parties. Each of the major parties has state and local affiliates, which for the most part have similar platforms as the state and national affiliates. The USA has 3141 counties, while the UK has 138 (as best as I an tell). I would think that a separate party, even one that is not national in scope, would be notable, providing that it has some impact on government policy. I don't see an article named West Midlands Labour Party, or Banffshire Conservative Party, if you are looking for an analogy to the current discussions about local affiliations of US political parties.--rogerd (talk) 00:59, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, what I'm generally thinking of are what I'll call "minor single-council" parties (that is, a party which only competes in a single town and which has yet to win any seats there); based on the number that have been up the last three years, and only taking one year of the councils that go 1/3 at a time, I get at least 375. The total is probably closer to 400, which range from counties (some larger than Rhode Island, I think) to small towns with unitary authorities. Anyhow, I do thank you for your input, and your point makes sense.Tyrenon (talk) 02:39, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Help/review request

Hello,

We recently put up a page on Janos Boros, the Hungarian politician from Kolozsvar and ex-vice mayor. But this has been notified by some users on Wiki for deletion. If they had asked us to improve the text, we would have happily obliged. But they are attacking the very credentials of the personality saying that his profile does not comply with neither WP:POLITICIAN nor WP:GNG. They also propose deletion as they see this page as a means to aggrandise Janos Boros. We searched the wiki for other vice mayors from Romania, to see if ex-vice mayors of Roamnian city councils and ex-vice presidents of political parties deserve and have their pages. Many of them, both ex and present have wiki pages dedicated to them. If these Romanian vice mayors can have their pages on wiki, while they some of them have not even served terms in office half of what Mr. Boros did, why not a page for Janos Boros? We are in the process of re-writing the page, as we agree with the critics that the page was poorly written. But outright request for deletion will be a biased one and unfair to our effort. If you find time, your help would be most welcome and appreciated.

Put in the title you want in the search box, and if nothing exists with that exact title, it will bring up a page with this at the top:
You may create the page "Close to My Heart", but consider checking the search results below to see whether it is already covered.
Then click on the red link and it will take you to a blank page where you can then type in the content. I would suggest using Personal Affair or another similar film as template, and paste that content into your blank page, and change it to be what you want. Also, see Wikipedia:Your first article.
By the way, you only need to have the year in the article title if there is already another film with the same title, like Ocean's Eleven (1960 film) and Ocean's Eleven (2001 film). If there is already an article in wikipedia about another topic with the same name, but not a film, like My Fair Lady (the play), then you should append "(film)" to the title as in My Fair Lady (film). --rogerd (talk) 16:26, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

I replied to JGG59 here. My concern was that the large amount of unwikified text looks like a cut-and-paste from an unspecified source, rather than original writing. but in the absence of references it was not possible to check whether the text was copyright. I would accept that the film is notable enough in itself, but if you ask me to restore, rather than the article being recreated, I am minded to delete the plot summary Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:06, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

That would be fine. He claimed that he was getting to that but hadn't had a chance to do that before being deleted. I was called in I guess because he made several edits to another film article that I recently created. I noticed that he made many small edits to that in a brief period rather than one big edit.
