Car Arena

hello! I understand your reason for deleting the page Car Arena, however I was merely duplicating what others had done on this site, can you let me know how gocompare.com and comparethemarket.com differ fromn what I had tried to do for Car Arena? Megamix1976 (talk) 21:31, 22 November 2010 (UTC) Many Thanks Ashley www.cararena.co.uk sales@cararena.co.uk

Hi, there is a big distinction between what you tried to upload, and what is already there for websites such as gocompare and comparethemarket. The latter two are websites where their notability can be clearly referenced using independent third party sources. Also I would wager that neither of the articles for these websites was created by representatives from those actual companies. What you tried to do was to upload an article about your own company, which is a clear breach of our conflict of interest policy and while this last is not a reason for deletion, it is a reason to not do it again. -- roleplayer 00:45, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi Thanks for the feedback, sorry I didn't realise you couldn't write an article about yourself, I couldn't really see much of a difference between what we had done and what was on here for comparethemarket.com now I understand.
We'll stay off now then and hopefully as the company grows we will get notability and someone will write an article about us and our history. We will be on the TV in March next year so that should help.
Many Thanks
Ashley

Quick question: why has this article not been speedied? I thought that albums by artists that don't have a Wikipedia article were automatically candidates for speedy deletion? -- roleplayer 12:41, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

It had already been speedied and then restored by another admin (who I think had added the album cover.) Not wanting to get into a wheel war this should be sent to AfD. --Stephen 21:59, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Accordingly afd'd. -- roleplayer 00:54, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Please reconsider your wording in AfD discussion

You recently voted in an AfD discussion on the article banana powder. Since your vote, I have significantly expanded the article. In light of this, I would ask that you reconfigure the wording in your vote to be more relevant to the current state of the article, whether that means changing your vote or not. Thank you for your time. SilverserenC 20:27, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Your removal of a speedy deletion notice from Umesh ranchi

I have decided not to replace the {{db-test}} tag on the above page though have no doubt that the article is a test by a new user. However I feel the {{db-a10}} tag is now more appropriate. -- roleplayer 12:36, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, on second thought I think you probably are right that it's a test page - but yes, A10 seems fine. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:39, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Undo / Revert

Hi,

Is it possible for XLinkBot to undo edits rather than revert them? In the case of the latest article I've been watching, Janet Gershlick (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), the (new) user had been addressing my concerns re references and categories, and the bot reverted the lot because in the final edit they happened to add a link to youtube. I have partially reverted the bot to restore all but the youtube link. It's just that while reverting the bot has removed more than just the offending material, it has removed the good faith edits as well, and I can imagine that leaves users feeling aggrieved. -- roleplayer 11:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

You mean, undo one edit vs. undo all edits? Yes, it a setting - however, it was found that undoing all edits generally leaves less problems in terms of broken pages, and residual spam rubbish (though may be more bitey). This is explained more in detail in the FAQ. I hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:51, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

This article is about a notable author and web designer. His sites have recieved critical acclaim. Swimmerwinner72 (talk) 21:33, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

And yet you appear to be unable to provide evidence of that fact when you create articles about the individual in question? For a ten-year-old to have achieved what you claim is remarkable, but only article-worthy if you can prove it. -- roleplayer 22:05, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of William Cobbett William Collett

Fair use rationale for File:Hugh Paddick01.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Hugh Paddick01.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:34, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know, I have updated the fair use rationale on the image. -- roleplayer 21:32, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Neighbourhood Action Group

Hi Roleplayer, I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Neighbourhood action group, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. I have added a comment to the Talk Page. Thanks! Tmol42 (talk) 12:07 pm, Today (UTC+0)

Re edits of EllipseUK (talk · contribs) a.k.a. JoeEUK (talk · contribs)

Hi,

I listed the former of the above users at WP:UAA earlier today, to which you responded and the listing has now been removed with no further action being taken. Please note that the name change from EllipseUK to JoeEUK took place in October 2010, however EllipseUK created the spam article Ellipse insurance only today. I don't know if it is normal to block the old name in the case of a username change, however in this case I feel it should be blocked because it goes against Wikipedia's policies and is still being used to create spam. -- roleplayer 19:08, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

It was used to create spam four months ago. There's no point blocking it now and I didn't remove it from UAA, so whomever did obviously agrees with me. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:07, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Re your reply yesterday (that is some fast archiving!) the point I was making is that the original username is obviously still in use and didn't get the point of why their name wasn't appropriate. If any more evidence were needed yesterday the old username posted this to another admin's talk page. Fine if no action is necessary, I'd just like some assurance that the isue is being watched, that's all.

PS the spam article was created two days ago, not four months ago. -- roleplayer 16:42, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

Hi James,

I just wanted to thank you for blocking someone yesterday. It's EllipseUK (talk · contribs). I had requested that they be blocked five days ago at WP:UAA, but the notice was removed with no further action being taken, I then placed a request with admin HJ Mitchell on his talk page but got fobbed off and ignored. I'm just glad to see that I wasn't wrong about our policy regarding this user and thank you for eventually blocking him from using Wikipedia. -- roleplayer 15:50, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

It seems that HJ Mitchell saw that there was a user who had had their name changed from this to something else, and didn't realise that a new account by the same name was in use. Whether the new account was the same person or not is not clear. JamesBWatson (talk) 16:09, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Regarding this edit, please read the article carefully in order to apply the proper speedy deletion tag. This page was clearly not advertising, but an attack page. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:01, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Roleplayer. This was very confusing and still a bit mysterious to me. I edited my user page on the Spanish wiki and then edited my page on this wiki. Somehow an intermediate page was generated on the English subdomain using the Spanish naming convention. It was not an intentional experiment but I hypothesize that it was the result of using multiple browser tabs while editing between subdomains. As of the last time I checked both the English and Spanish versions of my user page are still the way I wanted them to be. mrtony77 (talk) 01:28, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid I can't help you there! I have a user page at various language projects and I've never had that problem. Oh well, one for the bug collectors I suppose! -- roleplayer 01:36, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

To what extent has the media distorted our ideal of beauty?

Your prod edit conflicted with mine, but yours was better worded! Still, good call! -- roleplayer 11:08, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Except I mis-linked to WP:ESSAY - but I fixed that. I think there is a page about not writing essays, but I forget what the link is.
Anyway...yes, I think PROD is best. Although really, in cases like that, I sometimes wish it'd fit a CSD cateogry so we could just get rid of it; it's hard to imagine how it could be 'fixed'. But if CSD doesn't apply, PROD is the best we can do. And then the user will remove the PROD, and then we'll waste a bit of time in AFD. But, such is life.
Cheers,  Chzz  ►  11:14, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah that and stuff that is obviously made up! -- roleplayer 11:24, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

The article JobNoggin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I dream of horses @ 02:38, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

I have no interest in whether this article is kept or not, my only involvement was to tag it for notability just after it was created. -- roleplayer 12:18, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I just wanted to inform you so you can make an informed choice. That's all. :-) --I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 15:34, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I was going to ask you the same thing - I am sorely tempted to improve the article just so its kept, there is something amiss there.... if I was from Maine and had some local access to some local papers and suchlike but alas, it will likely soon be deleted, very strange indeed...? Re your edit to Bucks Herald

Are you aware there are two newspapers:

  • The Buckinghamshire Advertiser, published weekly and aimed at the Chalfont area
  • The Bucks Advertiser, published weekly and delivered for free to homes in Aylesbury

-- roleplayer 15:42, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Roleplayer, News to me! I only came across it when I was adding a redirect for the Buckinghamshire Advertiser so assumed its one and the smae which I've no redirected back as previously. Explains why Trinity Mirror have reinforced the rebranding of the Bucks Examiner to mirrror the Advertiser recently. Thanks Tmol42 (talk) 16:24, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Do you think it's worth adding a note to both pages about the possible confusion? -- roleplayer 18:12, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Added a banner to each article, trust this is what you were thinking of. I see there is also a Buckingham Advertiser just to add to any confusion! Tmol42 (talk) 01:18, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
I've amended them slightly to make it less confusing. Let's ignore the Buckingham Advertiser for the time being, and lobby the newspaper companies to come up with some more original names for their papers! -- roleplayer 10:57, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
