RfA Revertion

[edit]

Sorry about that. Apparently, Firefox cuts sections when I switch tabs while it's loading. Same thing happened to the Canada article a while ago when I was fixing the image layout.G.He(Talk!) 22:37, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Date reset on Maude cocktail

[edit]

Why did you change the date of the "prod" on Maude cocktail from the original date of April 21, 2006 to April 23, 2006? --John Nagle 18:52, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The previous backup system for prods because of the toolserver not replicating (namely PRODKEY) didn't work at ALL, and it was impossible to tell what should be deleted, so we're converting to a new system. Unfortunately, the conversion resets the dates. --Rory096(block) 18:54, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

I've blocked you for three hours for changing {{prod}} without adequate discussion. There is quite clearly no consensus for what you're doing. Please develop a consensus for changes like this BEFORE implementing them. Kelly Martin (talk) 19:02, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|I did nothing but be [[WP:BOLD|bold]] and fix prod, which anyone who was trying to delete things in the past couple days could attest was very screwed up. Indeed, when she said "<karynn> rory096: stop editing it NOW and take it to discussion pages, or you WILL be blocked," I IMMEDIATELY stopped editing and showed her where it had been on a discussion page for a week. I did not make any edits after that.}}

Patience is a virtue

[edit]

Please, just be patient. The toolserver feed will be back up soon enough, so it's not something to worry unduly over. There's no need to do anything irreversible in the mean time ... we can always simply delete those articles later. --Cyde Weys 19:07, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not irreversible at all. It could easily be reverted to the pre-toolserver dying template once the toolserver goes back up; it just makes things easier in the meantime. --Rory096(block) 19:10, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

63.173.47.193 / Blocking

[edit]

You might be pleased to know I got 63.173.47.193. Also wanted to say I'm sorry to see you get into so much bother recently. I don't really think all the things being chucked at you recently is totally fair, so glad to see you back in action. Whilst I didn't feel able to support your RfA, I certainly didn't want to oppose it (hence my no-vote neutral). Try and be careful for a few months and then I'm be happy to give you my support. Let me know if I can help at all with anything. Cheers, Petros471 16:35, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Rory, I am a novice and not familiar with the etiquete for contacting other users -- I hope I am doing this correctly. Regarding your recent comments and action on my recent addition, this biographical article is similar in content and relevance with others in my industry such as found here and each of the biographical articles linked to from here and here. With more information on the way, I was curious what it would take to place this article back in the main article space? Much appreciated. John Stutz 09:55, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notwithstanding

[edit]

Maybe you will have more luck dealing with the Notwithstanding page. The contributor tonight knocked off another article about an album (which probably should've been deleted) but I made a disambiguation page and created two separate articles. Notwithstanding (band) and Notwithstanding (album) both now exist. I'm not going to remove your tag, but the Notwithstanding page should be a redirect to the other two or the entire set of them should be deleted.. thanks for your work monitoring new, pointless pages ;). drumguy8800 - speak 05:40, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well you might be ahead of me, apparently notwithstanding (band) got deleted. drumguy8800 - speak 05:40, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I put them up for speedy deletion as {{db-band}}, CSD A7. Also, when moving a page, you have to use the move button on top, or it doesn't move the history, and that messes up the GFDL license. --Rory096(block) 05:42, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, there's also a Notwithstanding (disambiguation) page.. dunno if you've tagged it yet. Please respond on my own talk page, btw.. I wouldn't have seen this save I forgot to mention the disambig page. drumguy8800 - speak 05:43, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there you go. And sure thing.. I typically use the move function, I was just at a loss since an entire article had been deleted and replaced. drumguy8800 - speak 05:44, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thanks for alerting me as to the copyright issue with the image I put up. It comes from [[2]]. Is it possible to use the image? Where do folks find other images from?

Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mysterd429 (talkcontribs) .

Unfortunately, that site says that the image is copyrighted, so we can't use it. Other people upload images that they made themselves, or are so old that they're in the public domain (or in PD for another reason), or found on a site that has databases of free images. --Rory096 21:39, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

What copyright tag, Rory? He says he made it himself! (I was thinking what to do with it, and then you swooped in...) - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 20:30, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He made it himself, but that doesn't mean it's not copyrighted. Images are automatically copyrighted when they're created, and they have to be licensed under the GFDL or Creative Commons or some such for us to use them. --Rory096 20:32, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but even if he retains some rights, still he clearly consents to using it here at least in the article(s) into which he inserted it. If he now doesn't check WP for the next 7 days, why would we then delete the image? - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 20:34, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For use on WP, images can't just have permission for use here; they either have to be copyrighted (and under a claim of fair use), or they have to be free, even for commercial purposes, anyway. --Rory096 20:36, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's terribly formalistic - but he's not using it anywhere, so I am going to go do something useful now. Thanks. See ya. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 20:39, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD thing isn't working

[edit]

The Old AfD thingy says I "don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server." --Rory096 00:07, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dummy me. I changed the permissions to my ssh directory so that other can't stick their nose in there, and because did not type the command correctly, I changed the permissions to all directories, and ended up denying everybody the services provided by mathbot. Welcome Template

[edit]

I really like your welcome template. I assume it's in your userspace currently (I'm too lazy to go hunt), but have you thought about moving it to templatespace? It seems a lot more helpful and professional-looking than the current {{welcome}} template--in fact, I think it's the best I've seen. If you move it to templatespace I might consider adding it in as a default to the VP application (unless someone objects to that), and I've also been thinking about proposing a WelcomeBot (as I think it would do Wikipedia wonders if every user automatically received a detail welcome) for which I think your welcome template may be ideal. The bot wouldn't be at all difficult to write though I think many may object to how impersonal it would be to autowelcome everyone. Anyway, I'm (supposed to be) on Wikibreak right now, so I may not respond (I've even been "blocked" by Stollery for not studying), but I'd really like you to consider moving it to templatespace. AmiDaniel (Talk) 03:12, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's actually {{welcomeg}} (yes, the g signifies that it's the 7th of its kind; there are a lot of welcome templates), which happened to be someone else's personal welcome template and was moved to template space a bit ago. I do agree that a welcomebot would be great; the only downside is that it might somehow be slightly less meaningful than when I welcome people as fast as I can to annoy people in #vandalism-en-wp that have me on their blacklist. --Rory096 03:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I removed the db bio on the above article as I thought there was a lot in the article that claimed notability, and didn't think CSD A7 was appropriate. If you feel strongly about it, please feel free to WP:PROD or WP:AfD. Cheers -- Samir (the scope) धर्म 08:05, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting inappropriate usernames

[edit]

I've noticed you removed my CSD from 5 users' namespace pages, whose names are inappropriate or offensive, including libels, but not too similar to existing user(s). Users for having inappropriate usernames often have no edit contribs and deliberately have chosen to attack other editors rather than to disparage them. Some redlinked usernames like these have not been tagged. It's better to delete such usernames, since I see User:Pathoschild has deleted them alot. See his deletion log. I just wanted to inform you that I'm desiring to put them for speedy deletion. But why are there no reasons to delete them? -- ADNghiem501 08:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the tag because, for one, it is not a WP:CSD. Also, just deleting the userpage won't do anything to the account; the account will still exist (and if the account were deleted, which is a very hard thing to do in itself, it would actually just open that username up to being created by some vandal again). The users are blocked on sight anyway. While Pathoschild does delete them (with WP:DENY), most admins do not, and putting them in CAT:CSD just clogs it up. --Rory096 08:28, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'll look up at WP:DENY later on. I haven't sought to contact Pathoschild yet regarding this discussion, but I'll ask him on some point. There are the largest number of impostor/attack users in Category:Imposters of Curps under Category:Wikipedia:Blocked imposters and of suspected sockpuppets in Category:Wikipedia:Suspected sockpuppets of Willy on Wheels under Category:Wikipedia:Suspected sockpuppets. Of course, they've been attacking User:Curps alot (because of his block bot, I guess) and Willy on Wheels have been vandalising severely on many pages, plus moving pages to inappropriate titles, that we couldn't stop easily. It's a matter that we can collect these users for categorising certain impostor/attack users and sock puppets. I'd be interested on working them. -- ADNghiem501 10:22, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
