Notability
[edit]@Curb Safe Charmer, I dream of horses, and KJP1: Hi. Could we please have a little more detail as to why these articles fail to meet notability guidlines? Several have been rejected based on not meeting guidelines for General notability and even notability of organizations and companies. These articles are about historical periodicals and should be judged by the Newspapers, Magazines and Journals guidelines.
- have served some sort of historic purpose or have a significant history - These are historical early welsh Journals. Many where published in the U.S.A by early Welsh settlers and many are a product of the rise of non-conformity in Wales - An important religious movement in Welsh history. They all form part of the Welsh Journals Online website produced by the National Library of Wales. You will see that dozens of articles about journals in the National collection have been published without issue.
- are considered by reliable sources to be authoritative in their subject area - These Journals are frequently used by students and researchers of 19th Century Welsh history.
- are significant publications in ethnic and other non-trivial niche markets - These journals are hugely important in the development of a Welsh language press, and represent the strong cultural identity of the Welsh people. The growth in this Welsh free press played a huge part in the later protection and survival of the Welsh language and the development of a parliament for Wales.
These articles are being created by volunteers based at the National Library of Wales, so i am happy to monitor the quality of these stubs and to encourage the inclusion of more than one citation. However there seem to many hundreds of articles like THIS without a single citation, which get by just fine. Please do reconsider these rejections, and feel free to contact me for more information about the Journals. Thanks Jason.nlw (talk) 14:33, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Jason.nlw: thanks for the feedback. Perhaps I am splitting hairs but I think Wikipedia:Notability_(media)#Newspapers,_magazines_and_journals isn't actually a guideline? Anyway, I will respond regarding the draft I declined. There wasn't enough context in the draft to understand how the journal was notable. The one reference appears to be about a different journal. On reflection, I think the content of the page should be merged into Royal Institution of South Wales. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 14:51, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Curb Safe Charmer, thanks for looking at this again. I agree regarding the merge in this case and have now done so. Jason.nlw (talk) 21:35, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- Jason.nlw - Jason, I’ll also go and have a look at the one/two I declined. But one general point, that there might be other weak articles on Wikipedia is not generally a strong argument for adding to that number. KJP1 (talk) 17:49, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- KJP1 Yes, not the strongest argument i know. I think the journals importance in a Welsh context is the most important point, but i understand with the short stub articles it can be hard to convey that. Let me know your thoughts once you have had another look. There seems to be a precedent for accepting all academic journals, but with older periodicals like this it is less clear what is acceptable or not. Thanks again Jason.nlw (talk) 21:35, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
