[edit]If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username. If you choose to do so, we ask the following:
- Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
- Please send an email to info-enwikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles email is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.
If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Orange Mike | Talk 20:40, 10 June 2017 (UTC)S.dormandy (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Hi. You need to do the following, as directed in the block message:
- Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
- Please send an email to info-enwikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles email is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.
Have you sent an email to info-enwikimedia.org, and what was their response? Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:54, 20 June 2017 (UTC) Hi Boing! said Zebedee. I have emailed Info-eng and they advised me to email OrangeMike, which I have done, and edit my talk page with the unblock request to which you have kindly responded. So I believe I've responded to everyone's suggestions so far. Is there anything else I need to do? I'm certainly willing to prove my identity and only need to be told how and to whom. Thanks for your help. 14:14, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I'll copy your response here, so other reviewing admins can see it too (you only need to reply here in future, as I have the page on my watchlist and I'll see any changes) - Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:24, 20 June 2017 (UTC) ....
Hi Boing! Said Zebedee. I have indeed emailed info-en@wikimedia.org and their advice is copied below. I've emailed OrangeMike, as suggested, and edited my talk page with an unblock request, to which you've kindly responded. However, since your response suggests I start by emailing info-en, I worry this may be a circular process! I'm afraid new to talk pages and the deeper reaches of the editing process. Do you have any advice about how to get this block lifted, other than what I've already done? Thanks for your help. 14:07, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Dear Simon Dormandy,
The first method of requesting an unblock is to contact the administrator who placed the block. You will see this person's username in the message that appears when you attempt to edit a page.
To e-mail the blocking admin, you may click on "E-mail this user" in the sidebar when viewing the user's user page. To do this, you must have a confirmed e-mail address. Visit "my preferences" along the top of your screen and follow the instructions to enter and confirm an e-mail address.
Blocked users may also, in most cases, still edit their talk page. To request unblocking, edit your talk page and add "{{unblock|your unblock request reason goes here}}
" to your talk page.
If for some reason you cannot do this, you may use the Unblock Ticket Request System at http://utrs.wmflabs.org/ and an administrator will look into your request.
In all cases, please copy the message you see when you try to edit that shows the IP or username that was blocked and the name of the blocking administrator! Without it, your request cannot be acted upon.
I hope this is of help.
Yours sincerely, [REDACTED]
- First thing, please log in to your account to make comments here, as we have no way of tying your username to the IP address you just posted from - please log in and confirm the above message really was from you.
Secondly, when you emailed info-enwikimedia.org, did you specifically tell them you want to confirm your real-life identification and ask them how to do that, or did you just say you want to be unblocked - their reply (which looks like a pro-forma "I want to be unblocked" response) makes me suspect the latter and, if that is the case, I'm not surprised they might have misunderstood and directed you to email the blocking admin. I think you need to reply to them and specify that you want to provide identification and that you need their instructions on how to do so. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:29, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Hi Boing, thanks for your help. I am logged in now (I assumed being blocked meant I couldn't be - sorry), and am hereby confirming the message above was from me. I did say to info-en that I wished to confirm my real world identity and they made the response above. I could try again, if you think I need to. I have not yet heard from OrangeMike. I've had a series of emails telling me about the above message from you. Thanks, Simon S.dormandy (talk) 14:45, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
- OK, that does seem like a surprising response from them. Maybe just wait for OrangeMike to get back to you and see what he suggests - actually, I'll drop him a note at his talk page and ask for his help. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:53, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, Simon S.dormandy (talk) 14:56, 20 June 2017 (UTC) PS I've just tried to leave a message on OrangeMike's talk page but was told I did not have permission to. I'm feeling a bit like Joseph K? S.dormandy (talk) 15:07, 20 June 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, while blocked, the only page you can edit is this talk page - but don't worry, we'll get this sorted out one way or another. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:21, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

- Came here from UTRS. @BU Rob13: Don't you have access to info-en? Can you address this? Katietalk 16:21, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

--UTRSBot (talk) 10:10, 21 June 2017 (UTC) What's going on??? I am still blocked, according to the list in your website, but my appeal has been closed without explanation or comment. This is bewildering! User:KrakatoaKatie, Orange Mike, @BU Rob13: Boing! said Zebedee - can anyone explain??S.dormandy (talk) 16:35, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- I've had no reply from OrangeMike yet, and I don't have access to the relevant mailing lists myself so I can't see what's been happening and can't explain. Hopefully one of the others pinged will be able to help, but if you don't get some resolution soon I'll email the relevant mailing list myself. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 16:53, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: I'm handling this. ~ Rob13Talk 18:03, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
Glad the block problem has been cured
