POTD scheduling

[edit]

Hi and thanks for your efforts in scheduling the Picture of the day. However, the images you selected, Image:Dubai SPOT 1255.jpg and Image:Namib Desert SPOT 1347.jpg are not Featured Pictures. The Pictures of the day are selected from the existing Featured pictures in a roughly FIFO order. If you are interested in nominating these images for Featured status, please do so at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates. If you would like to help out with the POTD, please be sure to read Wikipedia:Picture of the day/Guidelines. Thank you and let me know if you have any questions. howcheng {chat} 17:48, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Username

[edit]

{{usernamblock}} Usernames that promote a commercial company are not allowed on WIkipedia. Please make another account with a non commercial name. pschemp | talk 16:19, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:U says: "Use of a company or group name as a username is not explicitly prohibited". Since when do we shoot first and talk later? The way I see it, you have indefinitely blocked an perfectly valid account who has done nothing but trying to improve articles. It is not even a role account, it is an account used by an employee of Spot Image to release tons of images from their database under a free license, as an official initiative from this company (see his userpage on Commons); blocking him surely is the best way to encourage companies to free their content. He has chosen to create an account using the name of this company to insure transparency; are you suggesting he should try to hide who he's working for? This explicit username is the best way to have other Wikipedians aware of who this account belongs to and to help them check for WP:NPOV following his edits. Please reconsider your action. guillom 16:18, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely not. His choice of name is free advertising for his company and wikipedia is not here to advertise. He can be just as transparent with a note on his userpage and different name. Regardless of the good intentions, the result is massive spamming of one company's name, and that is neither acceptable nor done here on wikipedia for ANY OTHER COMPANY. Sorry, but he needs to make a new account. pschemp | talk 03:09, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Free advertising"? "Massive spamming"? This user has not been adding links to his company's website, nor has he been adding POV content, he has only been editing Wikipedia to improve its content. guillom 07:00, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For reference, I have started a thread on the AN. guillom 08:02, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

[edit]

Following discussion on the Administrators' noticeboard, I have unblocked your account. One proviso: please do not upload watermarked images; these are not acceptable under our Image use policy. Thank you for being so willing to contribute free images to Wikimedia, and apologies for the block. Regards, Neıl 09:18, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The above message was sent prematurely, as the discussion is still going on, and many people think your username is inappropriate. Please consider changing it. Also, please communicate here with us about the matter as the rules for usernames on Commons are not the same as they are here. pschemp | talk 14:01, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Erroneous image

[edit]

I like the kind of content being added by you, be you a company or whatever, but please take care when doing so. The image you added to Laredo, Cantabria was erroneus, that was Santander, Cantabria, Laredo was nowhere in that image... but close! thanks. David (talk) 09:40, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
