- Hi! I'm new as a contributor at Wikipedia so I don't know all the ins and outs but I'm a bit confused abot why my page about Hemnet wasn't accepted. Reading through the reasons, I don't really understand, maybe you can clarify?
- in-depth – a Wikipedia page about Hemnet already exists in Swedish, so I wanted to create a stub so I can translate the Swedish page to English. Should I have done anything else for my article to be considered a stub?
- relilable – all the information in the article is clearly linked to reliable pages
- secondary and independent – I've stated that I have a COI, as I am an employee of the company. But that shouldn't matter since all the things in the article are documented facts. Why have a COI label if COI content is automatically dismissed?
- Thanks in advance! Santak1ng (talk) 13:02, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- The terms are taken together - to show notability you need sources that are in-depth and reliable and secondary. Also each language Wikipedia has their own polices so just because it exists as sv:Hemnet does not mean a translation is valid here.
- The COI label is because it's extremely difficult for most people to edit with a true Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, the declaration is to show possible bias etc but all other policies and guidelines apply. If someone without and COI wrote this with only primary sources it would still be declined. For example taking a claim like "Hemnet is Sweden’s fourth-largest website in terms of reach" looking at this they say it is the 19th most visited, or 8th if you count just .se domains.
- COI sources can be used to reference claims, however even then it would be more "Hemnet say they list 200,000 properties every year...." rather than stated as a fact, unless independently sourced.
- To show a subject is notable enough for inclusion based on Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) you need those independent sources and in general Wikipedia cares little what a company says/writes about itself and more what others say about it. For instance as an independent person writing about the websites reach I would just compare with similar so I would maybe say "Hemnet is the second most visited Swedish real estate site after Blocket" source.
- I hope that explains things a bit, and I would assume as one of the two largest real estate sites by far it would have independent sources you can use. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 14:02, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
