Students using non-free images on their user pages

Hi Shalor. It appears that you are the Wiki Ed advisor helping out with Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/University of Louisville/Writing in Women's and Gender Studies (Fall 2017). While doing some non-free image clean up, I came across a couple of students who had added a non-free image to their user page. This is not allowed per WP:NFCC#9 and WP:UP#Non-free images, so I converted the syntax to links using WP:COLON. The students are User:WordBender22, User:Charismatic88 and User:Happylittletrees. I left edit sums when I removed the files, but new editors might not understand all of the information in the links. Would you mind posting something to their user talk pages and maybe something to the rest of the students as well justto let them know that they should not add non-free content to their user pages. This type of mistake often happens with new users since they assume everything they find on Wikipedia is OK to use. As long as they don't keep inappropriately adding/re-adding non-free content, they should be fine. They can use images from Commons if they want instead. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:52, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

  • I'm very sorry about this Marchjuly - this is something that completely slipped my mind about new users. I'll definitely pass this along to my coworkers so we can warn new students about this. The class in question is over, but I'll definitely leave them a note in case they return to their accounts. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:31, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
    • That's fine. As I posted above, mistakes like this are quie common even among much more experienced editors. As long as they don't keep re-adding the removed non-free content, they should be fine. I don't know how much WikiEd advisors do when it comes to non-free content use, but it is one of the harder Wikipedia policies to get a grasp on, and is an area where lots of good-faith errors are made. It can be tricky because lots of images are used on Wikipedia, but they are not all licensed the same way. Perhaps, if WikiEd doesn't already do so, they might want to add something about non-free content use to whatever information they provide to the students who belong to these classes. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:04, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
  • The training mostly centers around contributing media and images. So far the main issue I've run into is students uploading non-free content to WC, which I usually deal with on an individual basis - mostly because I have to go through and do the cleanup. This past summer we revamped our training modules and probably won't add anything more until next summer, but this is definitely something I'm going to propose adding to the training. It would be a good idea to add something to the image/media training module about the use of non-free images, especially as userspaces aside, it would be helpful to show where a non-free image can be used in an article and where it can't. I'll broach this with my co-workers. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:38, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
    • Thanks for posting that link. I had no idea there was that much involved and the students had access to such information. I only hope they take the time to read through it all. As for non-free content use, it might be best to emphasize that freely licensed/public domain images are always to be preferred and that non-free is sort of the last option. Perhaps there's a way to incorporate File:Licensing tutorial en.svg (used on c:COM:L) into your image info since it easily applies to Wikipedia as well. I wonder if it would be possible to make one of those for non-free content. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:44, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Response

Shalor, thanks. So even if I cite from the source and its information that cannot not be changed like a mission statement--should I not put it on there? I can delete if need be. Antionetomlin (talk) 20:34, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Antionetomlin - it all depends on the length of the statement, honestly. If it were only a few sentences long, was relatively neutral, and wasn't the bulk of the article it would likely be ok, but this took up a few paragraphs and was the bulk of the article. It's something that's a little tricky to get used to, honestly. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:43, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

@Shalor (Wiki Ed): thanks so much. I understand now. Antionetomlin (talk) 00:17, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

  • In all fairness, this is sometimes easy to do if you're not careful. I remember doing some editing on Wikipedia with the Library of Virginia and discovering an article where someone had claimed that this one person had died via a lynching, only for the death to have occurred about 10 years prior to his birth. Come to find out, it was someone with the same name that was, I believe, a family member if I'm remember it correctly. They just need to be more careful, is all. Need help request from Drgruhin (talk)

Hello.

I need help with... How to find/add an edit section to my sandbox. There's edit source but no edit.

--Drgruhin (talk) 01:02, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Drgruhin! It looks like your preferences are set to editing in source mode only. You can enable VisualEditor by following the instructions here. As far as editing by sections goes with your sandbox (and articles), you can do this by going to the particular section and clicking "edit" - this will begin editing in that particular section. To add a section, you will have to manually add it yourself as the sandbox and live articles don't have the new section tag at the top of the page. You can do this by selecting the heading function in Visual Editor or if you prefer to edit in source mode, by surrounding the section title with two pairs of equal signs (==). Hope this helps! Intro and Question regarding offensive comments in an articles Talk Page

Greetings Shalor, My name is Michelle and I am a Sociology major at University California at Berkeley. I am very excited to be working with you this semester. I'm a little tech challenged so I appreciate your understanding while I am learning. I also had a question regarding some derogatory/inflammatory language on a talk page while I was looking for an article to edit. I am not sure how that is handled, but thought I would mention it for you to advise. Thank you.M LeFort (talk) 04:13, 23 September 2017 (UTC)M LeFort

  • Hi M LeFort! Can you tell me where you saw this language? I'd have to see it before I could really tell you what would happen, but in general behavior like this tends to go through the following steps.
  1. The user(s) is given a general warning that explains why their language was seen as a problem. Sometimes stuff like this happens because people don't realize how they come across on the Internet or because a discussion can get heated and people forget themselves. (If the person was obviously harassing people then they'd either get a more severe warning or a block.) This step basically gives the user the benefit of the doubt.
  2. If they continue, the user is given a more severe warning. Sometimes users may get more warnings that increase in severity before it escalates to a block or the administrator's noticeboard (WP:ANI). Blocking is used as a last resort and if the user ignores multiple warnings then this lays down a "paper trail" that shows that it wasn't just an off moment - and can lead to a potentially permanent block in the present or future.
  3. If the user still continues then this turns into a temporary or permanent block. An alternative would be to bring this up at ANI, where multiple people will discuss what to do with the user and their behavior. ANI isn't always necessary though - it's more something that's done if the situation is sort of complicated.
As to what is done with the content, it depends. Sometimes it's struck through and sometimes it's removed entirely - it depends on what's being said and in what context. Wikipedia tends to be a little cautious with removing content for obvious reasons. I can tell you more though once I see the content, though. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:24, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
  • Ah - I think I found the content on the talk page of the article you just edited. In this situation the remark has absolutely no value. Since the remark was made back in July and they haven't edited since, a block won't really do a lot of good offhand since they're on an IP. IPs are a bit tricky since permanent blocks require a long history of abuse and temporary blocks require that they're currently editing. The reason for this is that one IP can sometimes cover a large area, like a university campus, or it can be used by a library or a workplace, so blocking may be detrimental to others who may want to edit Wikipedia. The IP has some decent edits, so it seems likely that this IP is used in a place where multiple people access the Internet - so probably a library or school. Another issue with IPs is that sometimes the people who do stuff like this just hop from IP to IP, so blocking them may not do much. It's a wait and see situation, honestly. If it was an account that had posted this then I would've been able to give them at least a short block since I could guarantee that only one person would be impacted by the block.
I haven't blocked the IP but I did leave them a strong warning under my main admin account. I also deleted the content from the page so it won't be visible. Thank you for telling me about this! This is the exact right thing to do when you see something like this. Engaging with people like that is a waste of time since all they want is to get a reaction, so outright deleting their information is the right thing to do. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:36, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Help with Titles

Hello Shalor, I am wanting to add a subtitle to the article Longbourn, but I am not sure how to do it. I want to add "Major Themes" and then discuss the major themes of Longbourn. How do I add it? I am currently just working in my sandbox.

  • Hi! You can add a new section by two ways. The first is in source mode, where you put the section name between two equal signs like this: == Major themes==. In visual editor you can use the little bar at the top to designate something as a header. It's the part that will have " mmmparagraph" in it. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:18, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

Source question

For the page I am editing is for an animated tv series. I found that there was an event going on for it however it is a completely fan run event. Would I be able to add this Beach City Con Antross80 (talk) 02:50, 29 September 2017 (UTC)--Antross80 (talk) 10:49, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Antross80, you should be able to write about this as long as there is some sort of independent, secondary coverage of this in a reliable source. I don't really see anything out there right now, but there may be some coverage the month of the convention. On a side note, this is in the same-ish area where I live and I'm kind of bummed that it's already sold out. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:09, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi Shalor, I wanted to reach out with some concerns about an assignment for this course and introduction of students to contributing to the encyclopedia more generally.

An item came up on my watchlist where a student had added material that's both contentious and not clearly necessary to the entry in question. Following links back, I now see it's happened several times that the course's student editors have added unnecessary material that verges on POV-pushing (three of the first four students I spot-checked--example 2, example 3), and it seems to be related to a course assignment instructing students to add a concept from their reading to a Wikipedia entry. (Actually the fourth student I spot-checked just hadn't done the assignment yet.)

Worth mentioning: I'm personally quite interested in the topic and would like to see it covered well in the encyclopedia (hence a related item on my watchlist), so it's not that I think nothing of the kind should be included. But right now the students pretty clearly aren't getting sufficient guidance about how to make encyclopedic contributions to entries, and I'm sure you can understand my feeling some frustration since the instructors are getting paid and the students are getting course credit, but clean up seems to fall to volunteers. Thanks for any help you can give. Innisfree987 (talk) 16:22, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

  • I see what you mean - I think that part of the issue here is definitely in the phrasing. It shouldn't be "idea" since that can of course lead to original research and POV statements, which shouldn't be on here. I'll reach out to each student and explain in detail why the content was problematic, as well as make sure that we talk to the teacher. Thank you so much for catching this and letting me know - I'll make sure that this gets taken care of. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:29, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
    • Thanks so much, I really appreciate your addressing this so promptly! If you could please make sure the instructor goes through and checks the other students' contributions as well--like I say, I just spotted checked four, so I don't know how many more issues may have been introduced this way. Thanks. Innisfree987 (talk) 17:29, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Careless editing

Hi Shalor, First one then a second student on Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/California State University, Fullerton/Gender and Technoculture (Fall 2017) has added a set of entries to a complicated table in List of women psychologists and made a mess of it - mangling the formatting of the table in various ways, not using sort keys for names, etc. I've patched it up twice now. Please make sure that the students are advised not to mess with tables unless they know what they're doing, or at least to add one entry very carefully first and check very carefully to see whether it looks right and if so proceed with great caution, and to self-revert if it looks wrong. I've left messages at User talk:Ccolacion and User talk:Cpacio. Everyday volunteer editors shouldn't have to spend time patching up the encyclopedia after poorly-instructed students have been let loose on it as if it's a student laboratory or playground. Please do what you can to educate the educator involved. Thanks. PamD 22:39, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

  • I've done some basic editing to put the content in sections. The article definitely needs to be edited by yourself to ensure that it's all accurate and to add more sources. The work also needs to be a bit more specific with names, specifically to show which historians or scholars made the claims. (IE, try to avoid using things like "some people" or "scholars believe" unless they're accompanied by a name as an example. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:07, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Question from JButlerModaff

I am teaching a couple of sections of a class using wiki edu this semester. On the timeline, it states that after students decide whose sandbox to use for their group project, they should share that sandbox with their group members. How do they do that? Thank you! JButlerModaff (talk) 16:36, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi JButlerModaff, ultimately all they have to do is pick which person's sandbox will be used. If there's a group leader I recommend that it be in their sandbox since it'll be easier for them to coordinate everyone's activity. Once they've selected the person they can access their sandbox by entering this into the search bar: User:(user's account name)/sandbox. I recommend that they keep a bookmark of this for easy access and if possible, have the person place a link to their sandbox in their userpage by entering in the following info: User:(user's account name)/sandbox. Since Dashboard places a sandbox template in their sandbox automatically they should also be able to see the user's sandbox by looking at the person's edit history as well. Hope this helps! Questions about Article Editing for Class Assignment

Hey Shalor,

I need help with an "article editing" assignment I am doing for my Latin America in Colonial Times class. Instead of creating a whole new article, I am just adding information to the article and expouding upon what is already there.

How and where would I begin to build a rough draft of the topics I want to add to the article. The article name is "gente de razon". Feel free to check out my Talk page and Sandbox to see what I have already added, and please let me know!

I look forward to editing!

CaseyDuke (talk) 15:12, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi CaseyDuke - starting in your sandbox is actually a great place to start, since this will give you the opportunity to work on these additions at your leisure. What you have planned so far sounds like it would be excellent. An idea on how to create a rough draft may be to copy the article to your sandbox (make sure that you note what you're doing in your edit summary) and work on expanding and improving things there. This will not only give you more time to work on the additions and changes, but you could also try out a few things if there's anything that you want to do that you're unsure of. MMMcS gets no (talk) link when using four tildes to sign

Hi Shalor. The four tildes don't add a (talk) button to my signature. I can add it by manauly adding the code, but it doesn't get automatically added as it should. Here I use four tildes. See: Monica 20:07, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Interestingly, I just did an accidental experience. I tried adding this without being logged in as MMMcS and the signature had just an IP address and it had a (talk) link! Crazy! Why don't I get one? Thanks for your help.

  • @MMMcS: If it's a signature issue, here's what you'll need to have in the signature field in the preferences section to get it to show up properly:
Monicatalk
You'll also need to check the box that says to treat it like markup language. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:27, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Terumi94 - I have a quick question before I can really review this. Where will this go in the article for Japanese cuisine? I noted that in your sandbox you were reviewing the section "Outside Japan", however that section covers how Japanese cuisine has spread to other countries and your section is more about how other countries have influenced Japan's food. Basically, I need to know where it's going to go so I can see how it would fit in. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:52, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Copy vio

Hi there, please explain why the you removed the social media section at the Dakota Access Pipeline protests article for copy vio. Thanks. Gandydancer (talk) 14:39, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

As you can see I worked the editors section into the Reactions section and then added the Naomi Klein video wording which was not, as far as I know, a copy vio --though now that it's gone I can't be certain. IMO the editor's addition improved the article and I tried to use, as much as possible, his/her wording as I generally do when I attempt to improve an addition by an obviously less experienced editor. But, unfortunately I did not check for copy vios and now that its gone I have no idea how to put the information back without the copy vio problem. Could you list the copy vios here so I know what needs to be changed? Thanks. Gandydancer (talk) 15:07, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Expertly navigating Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube to elevate their voices and those of others at Standing Rock, the young people's petition spread across social media.
Facebook Live allowed large numbers of people to understand what's actually happening on the ground.
Facebook check-ins actually helped generate support.
On Twitter, relevant hashtags gained more momentum. A Twitter spokesperson told Mashable that from Oct. 1 until Monday morning, more than 5 million tweets used the hashtags #NoDAPL or #StandWithStandingRock.
Hope this helps! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:16, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Oh brother. In retrospect I should have known to check that wording for copy vio. A couple of things, for one as I said I try to not totally rewrite other's edits and for another I don't use social media and felt that the editor knew more about it than I do. OK, all's well that ends well. Gandydancer (talk) 15:29, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
Do you explain copy vio to your students before they start editing? I've seen so many really awful student edits that I have wondered how much classroom time they spend in learning how to edit. Gandydancer (talk) 15:44, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
  • We do, but one of the issues we've run into is that some colleges have different definitions of copyvio and plagiarism than we do. I've been told that in some countries it's not as frowned upon and is even seen as a compliment, which has caused some issues with students from other countries that have a different view of plagiarism. We do try to catch what we can, though. We have some trainings that they're supposed to go through before editing in general, though. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:59, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi M LeFort! I actually saw one of your classmates' versions of this draft and left a note for her here. I had also made some edits to her draft as well, since one of the problems with the draft was tone. I re-wrote the section on blogs as an example and left notes on her talk page that explained the reason for the changes. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:13, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you! I will review and discuss with her. I appreciate you assistance. M LeFort (talk) 16:46, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Editing/writing in my sandbox. For some reason, when I click my sandbox there is no option for me to edit/write in it. Just a help tab that brings me to this page. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Hello.

I need help with... Editing in my sandbox. I thought I saved all my changes but I can't seem to find any of it. If you could help that would be great!

--Juliarsanchez (talk) 18:54, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Juliarsanchez! It looks like you had some content posted in your talk page - I moved a copy into your sandbox just in case. Was this the content you were talking about? If so, just be cautious when you have multiple pages open. If not, then the page may have timed out while you were editing and if you closed it before pressing save again, then it won't have the content saved. Need help request from Bass case (talk)

Hello.

I need help with...

Im very confused about my sandbox, it talks about subpages, but I seem to have two. There is my bass case sandbox, but there is also some other subpage that is titled F something that seems to be the same as my sandbox. Also some of my training are requesting me to do them multiple times. Such as the Plagiarism page is asking me to do the training for the third time.

--Bass case (talk) 15:37, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Bass case, I believe that the training repeats itself in order to better stay in memory when it comes time to actively edit, although some will connect to other training modules because not all of them are assigned to a course. Are there any specific pages of the training that you're referring to - I can take a look at them and see what's going on, if it does seem to be repeating in a way that doesn't make sense. In any case, I only see two subpages: User:Bass case/sandbox, which will be your main place for notes, drafts, and such, and User:Bass case/citing sources, a page that you edited while doing citation training. Hello.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Neflores1/sandbox1

--Neflores1 (talk) 01:51, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Neflores1, I did a bit of a re-write of the content for flow. What you have here is good and the two main things I noted was that the content was unsourced and it had a bit of an essay-like or casual tone. The sourcing is the main issue, as the tone wasn't really that bad. I'm assuming this is going to be placed in an article about the textile industry of Bangladesh? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:34, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Shalor I have added the citations now. I do like the re-write it flows a little better. And yes I will be adding this to the Textile Industry in Bangladesh. Does it look good to go?

Need help request from NCSTATE27 (talk) 1

Hello.

I need help with... My entrepreneurship topic draft. What should I do to make the topic flow better how can I insert my citations? Thank you so much.NCSTATE27 (talk) 19:10, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

--NCSTATE27 (talk) 19:10, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi NCSTATE27, you can add a citation by following the directions on this page of the Evaluating Articles module. It's easiest to add citations using VisualEditor, however if you can't currently access VisualEditor you can re-enable it by following these directions. I'll go over the draft and let you know how it reads, then post back here. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:37, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Hi NCSTATE27, the number one thing that I can recommend that you do would be to re-write the quotes so that they're in your own words. I know that this can be difficult when there aren't a lot of ways to re-write content, however the section relies too heavily on quotes. I've left a bit of an example of this on your sandbox. What you have is good, however it does need that re-write. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:15, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Karen365 (talk) 1

Hello.

I need help with... Condensing my info and making it flow. I also need to back up my statements with more citations and make my writing sound more academic.

--Karen365 (talk) 14:34, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Just the first section please, thank you.

  • Hi Karen365 - I really like what you have so far. What I would suggest is that you work on adding in-line citations (instructions on this can be found on this page of the evaluating articles module) and if possible, work on adding a little more about the differences in diet. What you have here is excellent and gives a good overview of how it can differ, but it would be awesome to see maybe a few lines giving other examples and expanding on this more. Since the section header gives off the impression that it's going to be about Peruvian cuisine in general, you may want to look at adding more general information. Need help request from Vwdesmondi (talk) 2

Hello.

I need help with...

Moving the draft to the mainspace. I followed along with the Wiki training, but it says it's still a sandbox. Is this correct?

--Vwdesmondi (talk) 20:19, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Vwdesmondi, it looks like the article still had your sandbox template at the bottom, so I went ahead and removed it. Offhand, I do have one request - can you expand on the sentence "The homonationalistic understanding of the LGBT/GSM experience is binary and unchangeable in nature" in the article? For example, what exactly does it mean that it's not changeable? The reason I'm asking this is because some of the people coming into the page may have only a layman's understanding of LGBT matters and perhaps even no background info on this, so this may be confusing for them. Also, be very very careful to remain neutral in the article. You may want to add in "is seen to be" and add in who has this viewpoint. Be careful of stating things in absolutes, especially when dealing with controversial topics like this one, as these types of statements are ones that are sometimes some of the most challenged ones. The best way to deal with concerns is to attribute, attribute, attribute. :) Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:41, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Japswep21 (talk) (resolved 25 October)

Hello.

I need help with editing my entry. I would like to add it onto the South America portion of the environmental migrants page

--Japswep21 (talk) 20:09, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Japswep21, you should be able to copy the material to the page by cutting and pasting the content to the article. However before you do that you need to fix one of the citations, the final one in the article, as it's not giving any information - just ""Redirecting you to the requested resource...". proxying.lib.ncsu.edu. ". Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:42, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Draft Review

Hi Shalor! I would very much appreciate if you would help me with setting up an infobox. Additionally, my professor suggested adding pictures of Malthus or his work. Do you have any suggestion as to how I can go about finding pictures that would not run into problems with copyright? Thanks!

Jfilm1 (talk) 20:35, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jfilm1! I went ahead and added one picture as a bit of an example for you - Principles of Political Economy Considered with a View to their Applications.jpg. This is the cover page for the book itself, taken from this edition published in 1836. One of the good things about very old works like this is that the earliest publications are almost certainly in the public domain. The Internet Archive is a good place to check for things of this nature, as they'll state whether or not the item is copyrighted. For example, this book says that it's "not in copyright", which means it's in the public domain. In general the books posted there should all be in the public domain, so that's a good place to start if you want to see if any of Malthus's other works are on there.
I did check your page and it looks like you've done a pretty good job so far setting up the infobox - is there anything specific you need? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:23, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Need help request

Hi again Shalor. Thanks for your help with the infobox - I figured out some of the formatting through looking at other articles. I have two main questions before I move our draft into the main space. 1) Will the table of contents automatically appear or do I need to create that with formatting? 2) So our article is built off of a stub article. The previous article has some information briefly mentioned that is further analyzed in our article and also some information that is actually in Malthus' Essay on the Principle of Population (not Principles of Political Economy). Would it be inappropriate to essentially scrap the article that has been written thus far? How do we go about moving what we have into the main space without necessarily disregarding the previous author?

Thanks :-) Jfilm1 (talk) 17:14, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Reggiedublin5 (talk)

Hello.

I need help with... being able to publish a completely done wikipedia page. So far this is what i have.....Terrorism Effect on Weaponization of Finance

One circumstance that plays a major role into how weapons are financed today is terrorism. There are various terrorist groups in the world today who have impacted this aspect, however the terrorist groups of Al-Qaida and Isis are groups who play major roles. The types of weapons that are financed can be smaller arms weapons and light weapons [5]. Both of these weapons are tools used to by terrorist, to inflict violence. There are vast measures that have been implemented to try to prevent terrorism. The UNODA has been greatly beneficial in their tactics to promote change in how weapons can be financed. This group has saved impacted the way weapons have been financed and funded. The acronym "UNODA", stands for, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs [6] This department has been quite helpful in stopping terrorist groups from receiving all types of weapons. Other implementations that are put in place are international sanctions. Sanctions from various governments can help decrease the flow of weapons, because it puts a penalty on other foreign governments. The UNODA finds a way to affect terrorist strategies and agendas, because a lot of times terrorist have ideas on how to affect the weapons market. The UNODA can influence other foreign governments to be hesitant in their pursuits to buy weapons. The UNODA has found a way to ultimately control the arms market. They ultimately try to prevent other governments to sell, manufacture or buy various types of weapons.

After reading this i was wondering what can i add to this wikipedia page to complete it, and make it publishable. Also if there is any other information to add about. Also is the information in this clear enough to not be taken down.
