Vattelutthu

This is a mess all around - basically, some months ago, another editor made changes to a number of articles to use "Vattelutthu" as a generic name for all southern scripts (which it isn't), and as a name for all stages of the Tamil script (which also it isn't). I fixed some of that at the time, but there's a lot still unfixed. Some of HF's link changes seem to be related to that, but I'll have a closer look this weekend. -- Arvind (talk) 22:01, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Shankar Dattatraya Javdekar

I'm not sure why you did this revert of Zlzpqx's edit. For the most part it looks like an improvement though as I don't know the language I can't verify some of the data added. --Marc Kupper|talk 06:01, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

There were a few issues that made me undo the edit - 1. Consolidation of all inline refs to one spot, where three of them didn't have any relevance, 2. Removing year of death which was sourced, 3. Marathi -> Devanagari, while both are correct, where it is known that the subject is of Marathi origin, it is preferred to use that compared to the more generic reference to the Devanagari script, 4. The reference only supports the philosophy of Satyagrahi Samajwad, not the addition of the book Sarwodaya and Samajwad, 5. Changing the section headings from H2 to H3 (unnecessary in article of this size). The one thing I should have done and missed was to reinsert the changes from "he" to "Javdekar" which were valid. The edit summary can only hold so much, so I added just #1 to it, but I should have left a more detailed note on the talk page. Hope this explains it, feel free to revert if you disagree. cheers. -SpacemanSpiffCalvinHobbes 16:06, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
The differences weren't much one way or the other, so I undid as much of the undo as was appropriate. FWIW, just a note: Zlzpqx is the creator of the article. Shreevatsa (talk) 19:38, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
I noticed that the user was the creator, which is why I spent time looking at the refs before undoing :) cheers. -SpacemanSpiffCalvinHobbes 19:54, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the expanded edit summary. I did not have time to stare at the diffs to see what other useful stuff from Zlzpqx could be used but it looks like you have capture the useful stuff. I'm happy to see you did WP:LDR as that's exactly what I was thinking about when I saw the cites being moved around. I need to reboot to install Indic fonts and hopefully will be back later. --Marc Kupper|talk 00:10, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Sitar

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I don't play sitar and my books don't have much on its tuning, unfortunately. The added content seems okay to me. And yeah, I remember the Batish stuff, good that it's over now. Best wishes Hekerui (talk) 07:36, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

No worries, I was just a bit curious on the change in the tuning schema, but if it looks ok, then that's fine. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 16:55, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Looks as if our Pullad friend calmed down...

...and I get to see your neat picture again. Let me know if he starts back in. Thanks! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:20, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

I vote for Arianne. You can see more of her. :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:26, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello SpacemanSpiff

Just want to tell ya, that Indo-Aryan is a branch of Indo-european languages. If someone uses Dravidian instead of South Dravidian or North Dravidian, then the related term to Dravidian is Indo-European! --Misssss (talk) 09:45, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, too. You have racy pictures! I am surprised that you don't have more messages. Whenever people leave a message, they get a surprise! Suomi Finland 2009 (talk) 15:32, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Ah, yes...

Gosh, I sure do like helping you with your talk page.  :)) Oh, and our friend in Riyadh is taking the next three months off. As always, glad to help. I may not have as much access to the internet for the next couple of weeks, though. So, if I don't get back to you right away, I'm not ignoring you. Besides, Arianne wouldn't be happy if I stayed away too long, right? --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:49, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Sonofagun, that's almost enough to make me go vegan...--PMDrive1061 (talk) 02:57, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

R K Narayan stamp

Hi, just in case you missed this: a stamp has been released featuring RKN: news. I'll leave it to you to add to the article if/as appropriate. :-) Shreevatsa (talk) 21:47, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Ha, I didn't know this. I'll add this to the honours section. I don't know how Indian Express has used a picture, but apparently per Indian copyright law, Indian stamps and First Day Covers can not be used in publications by anyone other than India Post. BTW, can you do a copy edit (Indian English) of the article? I seem to be missing too many errors given that I'm the original writer of the text. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 22:08, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
I guess it's ok because it's a photograph of a portrait of the stamp; it might have been against Indian copyright if the newspaper had (say) got a stamp and photographed it. I've read through the article and made very minor changes. It's not much of a copyedit, but, still, I'm aware that my choices are idiosyncratic so please don't be annoyed by any change, and feel free to revert any or all of them. :-) Some things I must mention:
"This book like the first two book, is more autobiographical, but more so" — I excised the first "more", but maybe you meant something else
"deals with how the protagonist reacts to a woman when he attends the discourses of the visiting Mahatma" -- reacts to a (which?) woman? (I haven't read the book, so this doesn't make much sense)
Comparison to Faulkner is mentioned in the lead. Mention Chekhov as well?
"but not many people had heard of him to actually effect the meeting" — let's leave this and see if someone tries to change it to "affect" :-) Shreevatsa (talk) 23:40, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Ack, don't know how that "the" crept in before Faulkner! Some of the other errors of Narayan vs he/his can be attributed to my writing separate sentences and tying them to a paragraph. The more didn't belong, I think I rephrased the sentence without removing the redundancy; hmmm Waiting for the Mahatma is a weird book, and you're better off not reading it :), it's about this guy who basically gets into the Independence movt because of the girl Bharati and not Bharat Mata :), so maybe I should rephrase that bit. Yes, I was thinking of adding Chekhov to the lede, I still have to expand it. Also, he has been called the Gogol of India by Anthony West of the New Yorker (but I can't get my hands on the article online), wondering if that's a worthwhile mention? Effect vs affect, after moving to the US, I've started having doubts on my vocabulary :) And I see you don't like semi-colons, many of my semi-colons get converted to full-stops regularly :) cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 23:53, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I tend to overuse semicolons and write long sentences with lots of commas myself (there are still a few semicolons left in the article and I might even have introduced one or two), but I did feel short of breath a few times. :-) Feel free to change it back, though. I haven't read any Gogol, so I don't know about mentioning it... but sure, why not? (Articles mentioning West's mentioning Gogol are this and this and this; they're not available through the NYT website but I can download them through my library if required)
BTW, this reminds me: you had said once: "Books to avoid for your first - The English Teacher, The Guide, Waiting for the Mahatma and The Vendor of Sweets." I wonder why? I think The Vendor of Sweets was one of my first ones, but I still liked it. Shreevatsa (talk) 00:08, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

(outdent)That was targeted towards Priyanath. English Teacher - bit too depressing in the latter half, The Guide - bit too heavy in the final third, Waiting for the Mahatma - a fun read for the most part, but it's a serious topic, and sometimes the simple writing doesn't fit in, Vendor of Sweets, for someone who has been exposed to American culture, it's a bad foray to Narayan's novels as it doesn't do any justice to that (although it's a good read when you haven't an opinion of American culture); Abecedare disagrees with me on the English Teacher though. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 01:09, 13 October 2009 (UTC) PS: I can download Times Select articles, didn't realize they were up there, I didn't find it there, found only the other archive bit. -SpacemanSpiff 01:09, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Ah yes, I see. I still haven't finished The Financial Expert I had started reading when I was a kid. :-) Shreevatsa (talk) 18:31, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

A couple of things

Hi SpacemanSpiff, Does Dhanyavad divas, the latest work from friend Mahesh, pass the smell test? Is there an alternate spelling that I'm not finding? I hope to finally look at R. K. Narayan in the next few days to give some feedback. I'm now (slowly) enjoying reading old stories told in new ways in Gods, Demons, and Others. Priyanath talk 03:20, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

This sounds like a prime candidate for G3 Hoax, although I doubt a non-Indian admin would be ready to do that. He's also added this to the Thanksgiving dab etc. As far as I know, the real equivalents of Thanksgiving are Pongal, Baisakhi etc. An AfD is probably a better option, a snow close might probably be the end result. I didn't find anything meaningful with a Hindi search either and nothing in English for multiple sp. variations either.
I just re-read Malgudi Days (book) this past weekend, gave me some fresh ideas for the RKN article. YM provided some feedback today and also edited the article to a good extent on style etc, I need to continue those edits across the entire article, so hopefully the style issues should be done in a day or two. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 03:38, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Good luck with the GA! I'll still look at it to see if I can suggest/make any improvements before it's reviewed. I followed the first part of your advice on Dhanyavad divas ('G3 it') and it was deleted. Thanks for the sanity check when I couldn't find any references to it, Priyanath talk 21:55, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Thx, GA isn't the final stop, goal is FA, so any comments/suggestions will always be welcome :) India related junk is getting to be a lot again, while you were enjoying yourself by the sea, I had to take about 10 categories to deletion, absurd ones - Railway stations in Bhagelkhand and so on, would've done the Mughal emperors proud, these cats! Also, I'm taking List of India women Test cricketers up for Featured list status in the next couple of days, take a quick look? This one's way more straightforward than RKN though. cheers.-SpacemanSpiff 22:24, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

G4 or not G4...

Thanks for bringing this to me. I took care of it with an AfD, as it is different from the original and subsequent articles. I explained in greater detail on my talk page. Visit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Casanovva (film) to see if I made any boo-boos. MichaelQSchmidt (talk) 20:27, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

I've participated at the AfD, thanks for taking it there. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 21:49, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Amithab Bachchan Controversies

The page was changed after discussion, these days people are reading wiki with iphones and netbooks with small screens and its very difficult to scroll and load big pages.

We have already made split page for Main article: List of Amitabh Bachchan's awards, honours and recognitions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Amitabh_Bachchan%27s_awards,_honours_and_recognitions

Same we did for amithab bachchan Controversies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amitabh_bachchan_Controversies --Hopefloat007 (talk) 11:44, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

We have discuss to make a split page as its difficult to read the page on iphones and netbooks. If you have problem why don't you discuss before reverting it back.

We made sperate page for his awards also. Please stop reverting it back if you have probelm with split page lets discuss --Hopefloat007 (talk) 12:46, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

There is no consensus for splitting. You have posted on the talk page, and I disagreed. The article size is currently not large. So stop this nonsense. -SpacemanSpiff 12:50, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Stop behaving unprofessionally. Let us work an improve the wiki pages. This is the second time you have reverted the chnages and correct updates without discussion, next time it will be seen as vandalism.

If you want to contribute something or correct something discuss on on talk page. Earlier we split amitabh award page also, if you have problem in that also you can discuss. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Amitabh_Bachchan%27s_awards,_honours_and_recognitions

--Hopefloat007 (talk) 12:56, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Once again, you have been reverted by multiple editors (four to be precise), there is no consensus for splitting content, three editors have posted on your talk page warning you, you are the one ignoring everything and to top it off, post quite funny notices out here. -SpacemanSpiff 12:59, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

ok let discuss, where do you want to discuss. You are avoiding the discussion not us. What are your reasons for not spliting it ? --Hopefloat007 (talk) 13:15, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

What do you mean by I'm not discussing? I've posted on the article talk page and your talk page saying that the size does not warrant a split and the article should stay as is. -SpacemanSpiff 13:18, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: Oops

No worries! I thought you might have removed my message because it wasn't relevant to the discussion, and to be honest I'm not sure if you would have been wrong. It was a bit off-topic but I wanted to bring it up because we were discussing the references themselves. Anyway, no harm done, I also thought there might have been a chance it was an accident so it didn't really bother me. :) Thanks for your comment at the AfD by the way, it was very helpful to the discussion. (I'd rather have one comment that disagrees with me for a very good reason than a half a dozen that agree with me without adding anything new.) -- Atama 15:37, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

I was personally leaning towards delete when I first saw the AfD, but decided to dig deeper and it changed my mind. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 18:28, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

"Fixing" links to redirects

You don't have to do that, you know. :-) Shreevatsa (talk) 02:23, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Who'd have thunk! They have this fix redirect/dabs toolkit at GAN, and I figured I'd do it for a few that bordered on unprintworthy. But could've left out the Benson bit. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 03:22, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

V.V.L.N.Sastry

Hi,

Thank you very much for restoring the article on V.V.L.N.Sastry.

I was the originator of this article of V.V.L.N.Sastry. As a third person, I have taken utmost care in presenting a nuetral view. I have searched the NET and found more than 3500 sources, when you search the name of V.V.L.N.Sastry on Google. He is an young icon for many economically middle class persons in India. Many people like us watch him daily on TV in various shows relating to Economy and get more knowledge.

While creating this article, due to my lack of knwoledge in putting these pages across, I have done the page as I could do. But you can help us in improving this page. I donot know, how to provide references in the running text, you can also help me in doing so. There are many credible references available about V.V.L.N.Sastry on the net.

Please donot remove this article. Regards. Lakshmi Siddhi —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lakshmisiddhi (talkcontribs) 17:28, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm afraid your thanks are misplaced/premature, I actually did nothing to the article. All I did was listed the deletion discussion on the India related topics page. I haven't formed an opinion on the article yet, will opine on the deletion page once I do. Happy editing. -SpacemanSpiff 18:32, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Carnatic Music webpage

Hi,

Thanks for your message re: not adding external links. I will not add Raaga Rasika to the Carnatic Music wikipedia link. That said, just wanted to let you know that the reason I added it wasn't for advertising or traffic generation. Far from it. As I said, I will no longer add this link.

Here's my rationale. The Carnatic music page on Wikipedia is really informational. However, if you think about Carnatic music it is an art form that is best understood by listening (as opposed to reading text). The podcast Raaga Rasika aims to do that. It is an non-commerical/non-profit venture, available for free, for people to listen & learn about Carnatic music, its terms, places, etc. I find it no different from let's say Shivkumar's link on Wikipedia. Which I must say, is another masterpiece yeoman effort.

Anyway, in case you choose to still decide not to include this link... I abide by your decision. Thanks for the consideration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smdevesh (talkcontribs)

It isn't my decision and I don't have any authority in Wikipedia for you to abide by. However, any links in an article have to be germane to the article, not promoting some third party and a reputable publication. A detailed explanation of the policy regarding external links is available at Wikipedia:External links. I'll leave a welcome note on your talk page, that'll give you a basic idea on editing. Happy editing. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 18:52, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Sita manu

I know you had a run-in with User:Sita manu and his disruptive moves & redirects a while back. He calmed down for a while, but now he's actively using a second account, including trying to back up a request for a move. If you're interested, I just put in a request for a sockpuppet investigation. WeisheitSuchen (talk) 14:54, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I haven't come across him in a while on any of the articles I edit, so I just assumed he disappeared. But the moves are normally troublesome, I'll add something there soon. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 16:02, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
He calmed down on article moves and redirects for a while. He goes in these cycles where he'll be OK for weeks and then he'll have a few days of going crazy. Take a look at the moves he did on 10/17 (as For Loop), including Institute of Business Management, Jadavpur University to Institute of Business Management of the Jadavpur University. I'm actually not sure whether the style should be with a comma or of, but the grammar isn't good. The move for the University of Calcutta might be OK. What do you think? WeisheitSuchen (talk) 19:12, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
I'll take a look at his move log tomorrow and undo what should be (likely, almost all moves) and comment on the SPI. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 03:06, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
The SPI was taken care of today. One of the accounts still needs to be blocked (the name change & re-creation of the Sita manu account confused the issue). I see that you reverted the moves; thanks for taking care of it. Hopefully that will be the end of it. WeisheitSuchen (talk) 00:06, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
Ah good, I was going to bring it to the attention of a CU today, but glad it's already been taken care of. First sockpuppetry and now meatpuppetry. The chap is a pain to keep up with, and his edits are quite odd, to say the least. -SpacemanSpiff 00:12, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Whoa

File:Ariane Sommer- Bring Farbe in Dein Leben - Go Veggie.jpg
No "woods," apparently. Ah well.

I was going to tell you something useful, but I am being totally distracted. Nice apple. To employ Albert King's line from "Crosscut Saw," I want to be buried in the woods where that apple came from.

OK, I've rolled the screen down and can think now. That note you had in "Adaptations" of how unhappy Narayan was with Guide? I can do you one better: here. Drmies (talk) 19:33, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Ha! The apple serves a very useful purpose. When POV warriors come by to post angry messages because I reverted them, it gets them to relax a bit. And of course, it does have a distracting effect on friendly posts too. Not to forget, Arianne holds the apple quite well. Thanks for that, I don't believe the play was all that notable, the NYT review didn't call it successful, so I didn't add a bit on Narayan's reactions to it; the movie however was very successful, so Narayan's views on that seemed important. I'm not sure, but I think he held the book as one of his important works, so he was more critical of adaptations of this than of other works. I'll see how I can squeeze in this. cheers. -SpacemanSpiff 19:52, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
S**t there she is again. Where was I? Oh! You could merely add it as a footnote (in the half-sentence before the mention of the Time column)--I'm not saying you should actually bring it in. Wow, she has a name? I need to redo my laminated card with celebrities. Drmies (talk) 20:01, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
And speaking about spicing up life, have a look at the recent history of Taslima Nasrin. Also, in my original response to you I confused Roy and Nasrin--which was a terrible mistake to make, and I apologize to you and to Ms. Roy. Drmies (talk) 20:24, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
That ain't no Lajja, but Ms. Roy, despite what her admirers or the Booker committee members say, isn't any better! -SpacemanSpiff 20:57, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Tamils

Could you explain me briefly why you removed the sentence about the sea faring Tamils? Did you read the Tamil bell article? Why is it not in context with the Tamils? "Tamil" bell, huhh?! --Misssss (talk) 14:27, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

The article is a featured article and referencing standards are high (good quality references, making this an important element for the article). Content should also be germane to the section you add them to. In this case, your addition satisfied neither. -SpacemanSpiff 14:51, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
The various South east asian scripts were there because of Tamil sea farers, which is infact the reason why I added the Tamil bell also. Please don't remove it again without a qualified reason. I can add quality sources for the addition, this is not a problem at all. --Misssss (talk) 19:29, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
My reasons are very well qualified. Please read WP:NOR and WP:Synthesis before adding anything to articles. -SpacemanSpiff 19:47, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Delhi

can you please open you eyes and then check it out if i edited something that is inappropriate to you. My request. 114.143.92.115 (talk) 17:18, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Please note that coming back as an IP to avoid repeating the same edit from your user account is wrong. As has been explained to you already on your talk page and the article talk page, you have been removing long standing sourced content and changing based on your personal opinions, as opposed to sourcing to reliable sources as required. -SpacemanSpiff 18:02, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

i think now some good reference is there and now we can work together to improve the article. thanks for compelling me to provide ref. Rachitadelhi (talk) 18:16, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Please see WP:SOCK. Your edits are in no way close to being productive, and neither is trying to cover it up by saying that it is referenced. -SpacemanSpiff 18:20, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
ok then please go through the THE GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL CAPITAL TERRITORY OF DELHI ACT, 1991 at http://delhiassembly.nic.in/nctact.htm and decide if i am wrong or write. looks like you have no other job then undoing things even if they are 100% correct.
