Sheffield[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your edits to the Sheffield article. This is a featured article, which means that it has been assessed as being amongst the best articles in Wikipedia. Recently the featured status of this article has been reconsidered--you can read the current review of its featured status here. Because of this review a number of editors have been actively trying to bring the article back in line with the featured article criteria. Please would you help us by citing a reliable source for your addition to the transport section of the article, and by adding alternative text for the images that you added. Thanks,—Jeremy (talk) 20:19, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NCHQ article[edit]

Some good input on that article, although there are a few issues that I'll tidy up, possibly down to interpretation of the sources. My main thought is whether it would be more useful to combine the content with the CINCFLEET page. At the moment there is a fair amount of duplication since the HQ are there to deliver CINCs objectives.

Feel free to respond here, I'll put this page on watch.

Hi Brendan

My thought would be to put the history of Leach building on the Exc article, rather than the NCHQ article. HQ is the organisation, not the building, it just happens that the grown ups are on the second floor.

I'll check but I'm pretty sure that it's MarBatStaff in Moore and Fieldhouse, the Fleet staff and carrier strike staff are also there and the Amphib group are in Stonehouse.

ALR (talk) 11:18, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brendan

The MBS is in the HQ inasmuch as the HQ encompasses the policy staff and the operational staff. MBS comprises three staffs, the FBS (which is the classic UK Task Group) the Carrier Strike Group and the Amphib Group. Frankly Leach just isn't big enough... :)

Sheffield[edit]

Hi, thanks for the edits to the Sheffield article, but it took a lot of effort to get to to GA standard, after failing FA nominations, and would ask that you maintain this. When adding images please supply alternative text so that the images are accessible to those with sight problems. Also when adding references do not just supply the bare URL but also give the title, publisher, date of publication, date of access etc, you can even use one of the {{Cite}} family of templates to save you the hassle of getting the information in the correct format. thanks. Hi. Thanks for your edits to the Sheffield Station article. This is a good article, which means that it has been assessed as being amongst the more completed articles in Wikipedia. Recently the quality of the article has decreased due to poor formatting, grammar, language and repetition, most edits having been provided by you. Because of this review a number of editors have been actively trying to bring the article back in line with the featured article criteria. Because of the poor quality of the article as it stands I will be amending your latest editions once more and correct your spelling, grammar, syntax, turns of phrases, conjugation, choice of photography which privileges your own uploads and duplicates existing illustrations. Hi, thank you for responding. The issues I had, aside from gramatical and perhaps informal context of the later additions, are that the article focuses more on commercial, branding of service than what the station is. The current status section was but a repetition of the 2002-present section where, simply put, the present of the station is exposed. There were paragraphs with the same content and I don't feel it added anything to the article. When I first rewrote the article, added chapters and sections along with a longer contributing member JeremyA, I concentrated on the history of the building, showing what it is. It's perfectly fine adding contemporary information but I don't think an encyclopaedia needs the status of toilets or benches; we do have to concentrate on notable events (such as the not so recent 1991 flood for eg). Showing what services depart from there is, I believe, at the border with timetabling but, to me, pertinent. Service frequency is not, WP convention states Wikipedia is not a timetable, nor a phone book. We should show content.
I've had my issues with your photos. Mine are certainly not all great as I took them with an old camera but I think the lighting is certainly better than on some of your photos and I feel you uploaded photos of identical exposure and it feels gratuitous to replace photos (mine and others') by yours when there was nothing wrong with them. When I retyped the article, I've been fair, and put photos from the commons who best suit the text, yours included.
I do hope we can work together but I would urge you not to dumb the article down. Best Regards, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 20:06, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do appreciate that a lot of work was put into this article. However, copying-and-pasting with very minor rewrites from other websites, including the group's own website, does not constitute a neutral-POV article on a notable subject. I tagged the history section because it appeared to be the most blatant copyright violation, but I suspect it might not be the only copy-paste job in the article.

In addition, all of the citations were from either student-run organization affiliated with Sheffield or with student-run organizations affiliated with the Model UN organization, neither of which qualify as independent sources. I hope that you can find independent source validating the organization's notability, it seems like it's worthwhile, and that the other issues can be resolved as well. Best of luck, Dictioneer (talk) 19:12, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
