New pages patrol newsletter

Hello TheChunky,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Tagging pages for deletion

Hello, TheChunky,

When tagging pages for speedy deletion, please use Twinkle and select among possible CSD criteria the one that you think applies to the page you are tagging. Do not type in your own reasons or the page falls into the "Unspecified reason" CSD category and then tend to fall to the bottom of the categories that patrolling admins check. You should select among agreed-upon and limited CSD criteria and it can help to regularly review CSD so that you are very familiar with the criteria and when the apply. Even if you believe you know the criteria, it can always help to review them often. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:36, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

New page patrolling

Hi, TheChunky. Please note that soft redirects, such as Rattle his cage, are not eligible for A-series speedy deletion. It's a bit concerning that a new page reviewer would not know that, especially given that the soft redirect was created by an established user as the result of an RfD, and especially given that the two most recent sections on your talkpage are concerns about new-page-patrolling by two other administrators. We all make mistakes, but this pattern may be a sign that it's time to slow down, refamiliarize yourself with applicable policies and guidelines, and work to look before you leap when you encounter novel situations. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 22:23, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Ok. Will be careful for the future. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 22:25, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Draftifying

Hello TheChunky -- I think you are going overboard with moving articles to draft. It should only be done where there are genuine reasons why the article cannot be in mainspace without immediate improvement, usually for BLPs. I have moved some back. Espresso Addict (talk) 04:49, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. @Espresso Addict, I move the articles to draft per WP: DRAFTIFY, when I see there is lots of grammar and tone issues with notability issue and especially when there is no citations. Thank you. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 04:51, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
Drafting is essentially deletion unless the creator is extremely clued up and persistent (ie often paid). It really shouldn't be done unless it would be a snow delete at AfD (and often AfD is preferable) or there are significant BLP issues. Espresso Addict (talk)
Okay @Espresso Addict, thanks for enhancing my knowledge. I will consider this in my future actions.❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 05:04, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
@Espresso Addict Can you check this edit . I've actually moved this article to the draft. However, I'm questioning the validity of the reason provided by the user for moving it back to the mainspace. Since I prefer to avoid edit wars, I've left it for other editors to handle. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 05:11, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
I think it's probably fine. The article looks like a translation of the German article, which often causes problems with sources as they don't use inline citations. I suspect the creator doesn't have English as their first language, hence the somewhat odd edit summary. I'll ask them about the translation. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 05:26, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
@Espresso Addict hmm. The German version is without any citation. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 05:33, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
On this subject, you moved 2nd Group CIS to Draft space even though it had just been draftified earlier. Draftification is sometimes appropriate with recently created article once. If an editor moves it back to main space, then it is time to look for other solutions like improving the article yourself, tagging the article for any problems it contains or using one of Wikipedia's deletion processes if the article is irredeemably unsuitable. But don't get into a move war by repeating a draftification. Just check the page history first. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:53, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
Okay @Liz. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 02:29, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Dear Chunky,

You also wanted more footnotes (inline citations) for this general, a good request of course. I have added a number, can you take a look if its alright now? Thanks, Hansmuller (talk) 09:51, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Dear Chunky,

Thank you for your interest in this article. You reasonably asked for more references, so i have supplied a number of them.

  • Are you satisfied?

Thanks for a fresh look at this piece, cheers, Hansmuller (talk) 09:28, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Hansmuller, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, I believe you should read WP:IC to learn how to add inline citations and understand their importance. Additionally, there is a written like an essay tag on the article. It needs to follow Wikipedia's writing format as outlined in WP:TONE. Thanks. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 10:29, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

Request for New page review

Hi @TheChunky, I understand that the review process is tedious and can take some time, but I was wondering if you could review Project Shivalik. I have planned to write articles about projects of Border Roads Organisation.

Other articles by me (unrelated to BRO as well) have been expeditely reviewed within a week, but this one for some reason isn't getting reviewed. I am eager to get this article reviewed so that it gets indexed by search engines. Thanks Leoneix (talk) 14:52, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello TheChunky, I don't see anything that makes this person notable, noticeable, famous or popular. So, I have to ask, how did you come to know of him? I am also concerned about Ehsan Roohi that you accepted in this state which is not great, and am curious whether you keep an eye on your acceptances, especially when they have a history as troublesome as that article's because it has only gotten worse since your acceptance. Among other things, the SPA has resorted to IPSOCKing to revert attempts to address some of the issues. Usedtobecool ☎️ 04:11, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
@Usedtobecool Hi, I have added a comment about this Harvinder Singh (IAS officer) article on AfD, your question's answer is there. Regarding the Ehsan Roohi, I have replied in detail at this place ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 14:19, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
Chunky, this is all very disappointing. Drmies (talk) 17:54, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
I am dismayed by the unwarranted association of my account with an individual whom I have no personal acquaintance with. The CheckUser (CU) process has affirmed the existence of various accounts linked to mine, an association that remains perplexing to me. Despite my efforts to understand the rationale behind this situation, it appears that my explanations are met with skepticism. I wish to emphasize that the shared use of similar IP addresses is a well-known phenomenon among users. I have previously encountered such misunderstandings, yet my attempts to communicate this experience have not garnered belief.
In light of the prevailing lack of trust in my account's dissociation from the articles I have created, coupled with my substantial contribution record exceeding 9,000 contributions on specific subjects, I find it prudent to refrain from further discourse. I appreciate the cooperation extended by everyone during my tenure on Wikipedia. It has been a gratifying experience, and I express my gratitude once again. ❯❯❯ Chunky aka Al Kashmiri (✍️) 03:00, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
