Hello Vicenarian, I am the user who has been creating the FlipFactory page. I am fairly new to editing on Wikipedia and am still learning how to write information here. Since you placed that warning on the page I have added more information and removed some advertising-like termonology. I am still searching for more legit and accurate information on this product, but I would appreciate it if you could look at the article again and give me your input. Thank you for your insight into this matter. --Ballplyr86 (talk) 16:48, 15 July 2009 (UTC) |

EA MMA profanity
In which I should verify a quote against the source before I edit.
|
---|
Hi, I reverted your revert earlier today and put the [expletive] back in. I was the person who originally added the section, and although it's pretty obvious he said 'fuck', the source I linked to only includes the text [expletive] so I copied it verbatim. There's a few other sources that quote him as 'f**k' but none I could find that said 'fuck'. As the [expletive] source was the most reliable of the lot (being a dedicated MMA site rather than a general videogame site) and in the absence of a full word, I chose this link, as there's no confirmation he didn't say for example 'shit' instead, or if the comments came in a press release that omitted the word too, but the other sites are using their imaginations. Hope that explains why I put in the admittedly awkward [expletive] originally, and why I reverted your revert. I realise Wikipedia is not censored, but at the same time I don't think we should strive for anything less than 100% accuracy in reproducing quotes. I'm actually more surprised EA's notorious Wiki ninjas didn't try to delete the controversy bit within minutes and revert it back to the glorified press release it was before! Cheers. 90.213.3.222 (talk) 10:38, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your offer of help @User talk:74.230.35.110, Vicenarian. This person (I'll restrain myself and be polite!) has caused so much unneccesary work and disruption - here, on cy: and probably several dozen other Wikipedia editions as well - that he deserves to have the plug pulled on his internet activities for good, if only that were possible! Just let me know where and how to contribute to this and I'll do what I can. Pity we're not as well organised as en: in these matters, but I can trawl through our block logs and other sources (I have a few notes as well) to come up with the data. "Attacks" on other users
You say that I am "welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia", but how can I when User:AnmaFinotera undoes my contributions? On occasion it has taken a day-long debate just in order to put a simple sentence into an article and it has to be her words and no-one else's. What I put in she takes out. How can you work under such conditions? Put yourself in my place.--Marktreut (talk) 15:27, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- I understand your frustration. I have been in your shoes. Editing can be a difficult process. However, Wikipedia provides ways to resolve disputes without resorting to name calling, which is essentially what you did here; it's neither civl, nor is it helpful for your cause. Remember, cooler heads more often prevail. Take care, Vicenarian (T · C) 15:36, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- As I prefer not to continue interacting with Marktreut, could you perhaps act as a neutral party to look at his actions at Characters of The Adventures of Tintin. He has edit warred there over images with multiple editors and continues trying to add WP:OR to it. It also appears he may now be using an IP to try to continue reverting against consensus.Special:Contributions/79.67.191.98 He's been reverted by multiple editors but continues doing these actions. His remarks about me are a complete miscategorization as well. He was reverted by multiple editors who have repeatedly told him that his minor trivia and OR additions are not useful additions, but instead he edit wars and continues trying to shove it in and then spends a day complaining on my talk page. It has nothing to do with "my words" considering I didn't write most of the list he complains about (which makes his vandalism of that list even sillier...he didn't "destroy" my work, but others like he likes to accuse me of doing). The fact is that list has multiple experienced editors from the Anime/manga project watching it and others would have reverted it as well. I'm just usually first because I'm online at the same times he is. He's also done similar style editing warring at A Hard Day's Night (film), where he tried to introduce spurious information into a GA class article. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 00:29, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to take a look and advise as a neutral arbiter. I'm a bit busy today, but I will see what I can do. Regards, Vicenarian (T · C) 14:54, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I would actually first refer you to WP:DISPUTE for assistance. While I would be glad to help, I am still relatively new, and the procedures available there will allow more experienced users to step in. As for content, you may want to open a request for comment or request mediation. As for behavior, you may wish to post a wikietiquette alert. I hope this helps. Regards, Vicenarian (T · C) 16:32, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Today I joined the Mediation Cabal, which is an informal forum for helping to resolve content disputes. That might be a good place to go. Vicenarian (T · C) 00:48, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Constructive contributions are appreciated and strongly encouraged, but your recent edit to the userpage of another user may be considered vandalism. In general it is considered polite to avoid substantially editing others' userpages without their permission. Instead, please bring the matter to their talk page and let them edit their user page themselves if they agree on a need to do so. Please refer to Wikipedia:User page for more information on User page etiquette. Thank you. Vicenarian (T · C) 18:19, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

- there's absolutely nothing that says only the user of an account can edit their user page. That being said, I am the user who owns the page. - It's considered highly discourteous to edit the user page of another user without permission, and without logging on, we have no way of knowing that you really are, in fact, this user. Please also remember to remain civil and assume good faith of other editors; you also don't "own" any page here. Thank you. Vicenarian (T · C) 18:30, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Are you saying I don't "own" my user page? I realize that wikipedia owns their own webpages, but thanks for the patronizing comment anyway. It's also considered highly discourteous to revert a page several times using a bot without putting any thought into it. My edit was perfectly legitimate, but because you are using a bot, and can't spare 2 mins to look at history pages (or even read the content of the user page, which explains how I pretty much only edit anonymously) you made an error. Whether your intent was righteous or not doesn't matter to me, because you are the 3rd person in 10 mins to revert the page so nonchalantly. Also, I've left comments on the 2nd and 3rd people's talk pages (which they've removed immediately, guess they dont' want others to know they made a mistake using bots without thinking) because they edited MY page. I don't AGF when my own user page is reverted 3 times in a row, and then my objections are stricken from the editor's pages, as if they do not want anyone to know they messed up (and btw they didnt' go back and revert their reversions). I'm assuming these are Admins who are doing the editing becaues they are warning me and using bots. They should know better, or at least be more cautious in what they are doing. They are being extremely frustrating, solely within the confines of "my" user page. If this was a main page article, I'd be more CIVIL and AGF. THis is my person user page, which NO ONE but my self has edited. It's not going to get vandals... use common sense. And I know I am within policy, however discourteous you think it is, to edit my own page without logging on. Please do not revert it again, and if you have some way to keep people with bots from reverting it, I suggest you do so before they get a lot of angry comments from me later on. BTW, copying this to your talk page, feel free to sweep it under the rug so no one knows —Preceding unsigned comment added by 167.7.17.3 (talk • contribs)

I can't believe you people can't respect my 'right' to edit anonymously. I'm sorry if I was uncivil, but I've been treated no better this entire time (by admins, no less). Eganjt (talk) 18:52, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- We have no objections to you editing "anonymously" in a constructive manner. Now that you have logged in, I don't think you will find any objection to you editing your user page; we often encounter user page vandals under an IP who pretend to be the user, but are actually not, so that's a big red flag to us. We have no way of knowing it's really you until you log in, so we err on the side of protecting the user page. I would also note that editing under your IP address is much less anonymous than under a user name, as your IP is posted for all to see. That said, I apologize if you've been hurt or offended. It certainly was not intended. Regards, Vicenarian (T · C) 19:04, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I can understand how this could potentially be a problem. I did take offense to you pulling the "AGF" card when you were essentially assuming bad faith thinking I was a vandal. You were right, I didn't, and I apologize for that. Just know it wasn't personal either, you just happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back, in the form of the 3rd or 4th revert. I don't like to sign in. I also don't like to sign my posts, but will do so for now to keep things simple. About the anonymous thing, it is more so people don't see my name (eganjt ain't too creative) and possibly connect it with the real person. This is simply because I'm at work, and often the articles I edit could be read by other people here, who would then realize I'm spending too much time on wikipedia! The IP address is shared, so it offers a little more anonymity, especially since I'm a memember of the wikipedian's who've opted out of automated signatures. Since this is all behind us, could you please remove the banner you've put on the IP user page? I don't want to get in trouble for removing warnings, but since they are moot at this point, I'd rather they go.Eganjt (talk) 19:16, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and removed the box. You're right, I did assume bad faith, but I hope you understand that it came from a desire to protect (what turned out to be) your user page from (what could have been, for all we could tell at the time) vandalism. As for anonymity, though, I know that most IT departments can usually find out exactly which terminal was accessing Wikipedia at a given time (if they wanted to, most don't actively track). Maybe try changing to a user name that's a little more creative? That would protect your identity from your employer, your coworkers and the rest of Wikipedia. Cheers and happy editing, Vicenarian (T · C) 19:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks again, I think I will take your advice and come up with a new user name. If I do, do I need to delete my other account?Eganjt (talk) 20:07, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- The easiest thing would probably be to go to WP:CHU and request a rename to whatever you decide upon. Best, Javert (T · C) 20:09, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, Javert, for anonymity, I wouldn't advise that, as that would keep a public record tying the old username to the new one. Also, it's not possible to delete an account, unfortunately. My advice: Log out of your current username and never use it again. Create a new username and then stay away from the talk/user pages of Eganjt and your IP, and also don't comment on any of our pages with your new name. I would also stay away from pages you used to edit frequently under your IP or username, for at least a little while. That way, you can disappear and reappear with a fresh start, with nothing to tie you to your old name or your IP. You will be truly anonymous and it will be like this whole kerfuffle never happened. However, I don't see a reason why someone (IF that someone has not violated policy, been blocked, banned, etc.) can't simply stop using an old account and come back under a new one, provided the new account isn't used for abusive sockery. It's more along the lines of WP:SOCK#LEGIT. (And that's a BIG if - you can't come back under a new username to evade a block, continue an edit war, etc etc etc.) Vicenarian (T · C) 21:08, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- You make good points. Per WP:IAR, I would agree that if the user is in good standing and simply wishes to "start over" then WP:RTV should be invoked. Just my opinion, though. Javert (T · C) 21:13, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Help
Will you please look at this and tell me why I don't understand what SmackBot is doing? Javert (T · C) 19:38, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- SmackBot (talk · contribs) does maintenance tag fixes, and also Template:DEFAULTSORT for biographies. It moved the
{{nofootnotes}}
tag down to the bottom of the page (where you'd want to see footnotes), added the date the tag was placed on the page and then used DEFAULTSORT to list the biography alphabetically. Vicenarian (T · C) 19:44, 22 July 2009 (UTC)- I am officially an idiot. I didn't see that SmackBot moved the tag, I thought that he had removed it. I apologise for bothering you. Javert (T · C) 19:46, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Naw, no apologies needed, bother me whenever. SmackBot's edits can be a little confusing a first, but it attempts to ensure maintenance tags are applied to pages in a standard way. Vicenarian (T · C) 19:47, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

FlipFactory redone...
The amount of advertising speak on this page is drastically diminished to the point that I cannot see any more. Also There are a lot of articles that it links to that talk about the product from second hand sources. If you find this acceptable then I would ask you to remove your code, and if not then please let me know what else I can do to help the article. Thanks, --Ballplyr86 (talk) 23:22, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- It looks good. You can remove the code yourself, if you'd like. Just take out the "advert" parameter from the article issues template. Best, Vicenarian (T · C) 23:25, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Vicenarian. I noticed with some amusement that after an initial flurry of interest, the discussion on "Where are They Now"? concluded that the ongoing lives of people who have left a TV or radio station are somehow on-topic. I am curious about your perception of the process. I ducked out of the discussion, assuming that others would pick it up. Apparently that didn't happen! There were 4 no, 2 yes on the RFC. (One no vote was from an anon IP who edited in Wikipedia for two weeks, contributed mostly by adding an article about TV personality Tammie Souze, and has now apparently left Wikipedia.) [2] However on [3], the vote is 4 no, 6 yes (including you, if one counts the original statement). On both those pages user CFIF voted no, giving no explanation. Yes. Vicenarian, Piano non troppo, Krocheck, Frank, Nuggetboy, Powergate92
No. ViperSnake, CFIF, 24.3.223.164, Firsfron of Ronchester, Triple3D, NeutralHomer I.e., 6 to 6, where one "no editor" doesn't have any demonstrated understanding of the issues (only contributed to Wikipedia for two weeks), and another no vote is the editor himself who made many of the changes. Also one apparent yes editor was not counted. Moreover, the no side cites little in the way of valid argument, while the yes side cites WP:OR, WP:NOTINHERITED, WP:V, WP:BIO, and WP:DIRECTORY. Shouldn't this be a win for yes? If we brought this discussion before a "higher power" is there any real doubt what the result would be? Best Regards, Piano non troppo (talk) 05:52, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: Oh Wise One
Well, you have made a hell of a lot of progress since I adopted you (you're certainly a fast learner). The sixth (and final) lesson would have been on what it takes to become an admin, but I think you should pursue admin coaching sometime down the road if you're interested (I am myself a precedent for adopters who are undergoing admin coaching). So...
If you ever need help down the line, don't hesitate to ask me. Expect a check-up every now and then. :) Go out there, and make your (now-former) adopter proud! :D Best of luck, Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 16:37, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I can see that it may sound like Episode Encoder/Episode Encoder Pro is not notible, as it is a newer name for the product. If you visit the Telestream Site then you can see that they have made this name change perminant. There is also a review for the product under the new name at FMC. - You know how when you move a page, it automatically credits a redirect? If you are an admin, you have the option of not leaving a redirect behind and I've been thinking about either a new user right,
or just throw it into the autocomfirmed package(bad idea), where non-admins have this choice as well. What do you think? Javert I knit sweaters, yo! 23:20, 24 July 2009 (UTC)- Hmm, let me ponder that for a bit. Doesn't seem so terribly useful, if you ask me. Redirects left behind can always be nom'd for deletion, if there is cause. Usually, the "no redirect" option is used by admins for page move vandal... oh, I see. Kind of like rollback, but for page move vandalism? Vicenarian (T · C) 00:11, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

- You know, you probably shouldn't change your sig very much. Might make it harder for people to find you. Also, changing your sig too often is annoying. :) javert (stargaze) 04:25, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Shaddup. I'm experiminting. Vicenarian (Said and Done) 04:24, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, okay. Nice sig. ;) javert (stargaze) 04:22, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
←Hmm, no, sorry, it doesn't look like it. I tried everything that I could think of, but was still told that I had invalid characters in my input. javert (stargaze) 04:33, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I would like to know if the article Life course theory is still copyvio.Smallman12q (talk) 17:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- It's still a VERY close copy to the page in question. The sentence structure is almost identical, even if some words are changed. I would advise a rewrite, with your own sentence structure, to avoid potential copyvio problems. Hope this helps, Vicenarian (Said | Done)
- Okay...it is a bit paraphrased..a work in progress..I should've put up a under construction template.Smallman12q (talk) 17:19, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Not a problem. Sometimes I get a little too tag-happy when I see User:CorenSearchBot copyvio notes on new articles. Happy editing, Vicenarian (Said | Done) 17:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've actually beat CorenSearchBot to tagging a copyvio (same URL) twice. :) --javert (stargaze) 19:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

←Braggart. :-P By the way, check my contributions and see if you can spot the "COI." ;) Vicenarian (Said · Done) 19:15, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Haha, I noticed a moment ago that you had edited Sleep disorder. Shame on you! ;) --javert (stargaze) 19:19, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Not sure exactly how my last edit to Toby Gerhart's page was unfair, uncalled for or biased. Please explain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.236.134.108 (talk) 00:30, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Your edit. To quote: "A considerable feat considering white running backs have, unfortunately, become a rarity." To start, it is unsourced, original research in a biography of a living person. As for additional issues... would someone else who stalks my talk page like to step in here? Vicenarian (Said · Done) 03:12, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. It's a personal opinion (Vicenarian already directed you to WP:OR), and quite biased. We like to keep those out of articles. Encyclopedias need to be neutral. javért stargaze 03:29, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
War Edits?
What war edits? You cleary didn't look before you leaped, or in this case, sent off a message. Why not take another look. Also go to the discussion page, and maybe *you* can give a straight answer. Something no one else appears willing or capable of doing. R7604 (talk) 04:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have been watching the page very carefully. You are engaging in an edit war. You are welcome to seek dispute resolution if you feel your concerns are not being addressed on the talk page. However, continuing to edit the page when current consensus is against you can and will result in a block. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 04:08, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- And considering your block log, your next block will likely be very long, if not indefinite. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 04:21, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Litigation
It looks like Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Jimbo Wales' block of Bishonen will now open... I would advise all to pay attention to the case, as it could have widespread ramifications. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 14:30, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, yeah. I think I will catch the highlights later. That sort of thing can really distract you from the day to day things that still need doing round here. In fact, I'd almost completely forgotten that was still going on, tbh. :) – B.hotep •talk• 14:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, the drama can crowd out the actual work, unfortunately. No need to follow it step by step, but checking in every now and then is probably advisable. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 14:37, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- The trouble is with those pages is that you don't know where to start and what comments preceded which. But it is a big event, granted. It will have certain websites[which?] and certain users[who?] buzzing for a while anyway. – B.hotep •talk• 14:41, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks
It occurred to me that I didn't thank you for reverting that uncharming little note on my talk page; please accept this as an apology and a belated thank you. Incidentally, in re Izzy Gold Records, I try not to delete pages where I've tried to steer the creator into producing references, but in this case I just might do it. Your comments would be welcome if you cared to make any. Accounting4Taste:talk 22:48, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome, it's my duty and pleasure to defend. No apologies or thank yous required. :) As for said article, I brought it up with Bubba hotep, who was thinking along the same lines as you. He advised leaving it be for now, since it's being actively edited, but if notability isn't shown soon, I'll take it to AfD. You are, of course, welcome to speedy delete if you see fit - it is rather spammy, if you ask me, and I can't find any solid sources for notability. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 22:52, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, thanks anyways <grin>; I never know quite how hard to come down on children so it was nice not to have to think about it. I traced all the links in the article and found two blogs about the NYC social whirl, a one-sentence mention that Mr. Gold attended a party, and a note in what seems to be an in-house blog at the NY Daily News that his brand of jeans were on sale. There definitely seems to be notability asserted, I just didn't find anything to back that up; I think AfD is the way to go. And as I mentioned on the associated talk page, if notable clients were a source of notability, we'd have an article on Brad Pitt's garbage collector. I tried a Google search; the gentleman seems to be a relentless self-promoter, but I also didn't find anything solid. However, it can wait until tomorrow, just in case he surprises us with something more solid, unless you care to move forward with an AfD, which would be just fine with me. - Kids will be kids, especially on the Internet. :) Right, that is what I must remember - A7 is only for articles without ASSERTION of notability. If the article asserts notability, if even that notability is highly questionable, it needs to go through PROD or AfD. I'm still learnin'. I'll sleep on it and see what it looks like tomorrow. If notability and reliable sourcing aren't established by then, I'll nominate for deletion on those grounds. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 23:07, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- My sentiments exactly, and I can't think you could be faulted for not believing there's notability asserted; I think it's more the overall tone and flavour than an actual assertion. (Besides, I was about to speedy it myself <grin>.) Let's both look at it tomorrow and see what's shaken out. Accounting4Taste:talk 23:28, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

It shook out; someone deleted the page and moved the material to a sandbox page. Whoops, no, my error; it was simply deleted. I'll keep an eye on the user's contributions and see if the identical page gets recreated. Accounting4Taste:talk 14:22, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- To be honest, I was going to blitz it, but I don't like deleting and running. I was due to go offline any moment after that and I like to stick around and see what happens for at least 10 minutes after! Unlike today where I blocked someone and then the minute I did it, the Wikimedia server decided to pack up for an hour with another hour and a half of limited usability after that. Well, I enjoyed my enforced wiki-break anyway! :) – B.hotep •talk• 14:30, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Good work, everyone. Maybe the downtime is a sign we should all be contributing to the Foundation? Vicenarian (Said · Done) 14:38, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
