Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

Thanks for your contributions to Ultimate and other Frisbee-related topics.

Definitely see the Wikipedia:Tutorial for some information on some of the naming conventions (i.e. Ultimate terms instead of Ultimate Terms), making internal links [[articlename]] vs. external links. --Christopherlin 22:00, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the pointers...[edit]

Still getting going, so appreciate it. I'll try to roll through the tutorial in the next few days.  :)

Wikibofh 17:41, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC) sorry about that

Peter Kreeft[edit]

Peter Kreeft has important point of view that isn't otherwise represented on Wikipedia. The articles on personhood are all biased heavily toward the view that personhood does not begin at conception. Such articles either don't mention the personhood-at-conception POV at all, or they treat it as somehow extreme. This is unacceptable, so I have begun to add Prof. Kreeft's article as merely one example of the personhood-at-conception POV.

But they are represented. In the Morality and Abortion article you have comments about the pro-life movement that include statements such as "...a human life— entitled to protection—from the moment of conception ..." as well as other comments. You have all of the links to the Pro-Life movements in the advocacy section as well. I would argue that you might be able to add Kreeft's comments there, and they try to work them into the article where it appears they belong and aren't addressed. I'll tell you know you're likely to get banned for a while for violating the 3RR if you don't bring your ideas to discussion first. Wikibofh 00:14, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Taipei American School[edit]

The unknown user has been persistenly trying to get his views back on the Taipei American School article. Every time someone among us edit his stuff out he edits back in. And now he writes that the track and field facilities were built on a former trash dump! Whether the track and field facilities were built on a former trash dump sounds irrelevant. Allentchang 19:02, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I think it's going to have to go to Vandalism in progress to be blocked. I believe the user has called you a "dumbass" and "phucked" if I'm not mistaken. I just haven't reported it yet. Perhaps after my lunch meeting. Wikibofh 19:46, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Got your message. I suppose we ought to be patient for a little while longer. -- Curps 01:39, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

New Belgium Brewery...[edit]

Thanks, that's entirely my fault. I'll fix it. —Sean κ. 23:31, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I hope you will not give it up as a lost cause (the article, that is, even if you feel that dialogue with the anon is a lost cause). -- Curps 17:36, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You shouldn't feel discouraged from making any edits at all to the article. If you have valid information to add, it can be added even in the face of the ongoing issue with the anon. -- Curps 18:22, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Welcome[edit]

  • This is pretty funny. It appears to be response the reverts done and documented in Power violence. I think my edit history shows that I'm not doing anything that warrants test. Wikibofh 16:02, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Quite. Please stop your abusive reversions. 141.154.228.160 16:14, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • It's not abusive reversions. Removing the clearly unsubstantiated POV that is being added by anons (of which you appear to be one) Wikibofh 16:15, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
        • Actually, your reversions are abusive, and my not having an account has nothing to do with it. 141.154.228.160 16:59, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

RE: invented sports[edit]

i agree, but figured i should add ultimate, because it was clearly invented. perhaps the category should be changed to sports invented in the time period xxxx-xxxx, or change it to somehow differentiate between sports that are clearly invented for their own sake (i.e. ultimate) and sports that were invented for some other reason (i.e. javelin - spearing animals for food). on the other hand, im not sure either of those categories would be at all useful to the general public, so maybe it should just be deleted and forgotten. thats my two cents. helpful, wasnt it? :-P -- ericl234talk 07:11, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

Entity removal VFD[edit]

Just a little note. When you added Entity removal to the log, you put it there with a capital "R". Remember that Wikipedia is case-sensitive and so it didn't show up. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 10:19, May 22, 2005 (UTC)

    • Thanks for catching that.  :) Wikibofh 15:00, 22 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

An old speedy tag[edit]

Sorry for the late reply, normally your speedy tags are admirably restrained, but English tort law didn't look to be a candidate after wikifying. Kappa 00:45, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • No worries. I took a look at it and you were right (I just didn't know which one you were talking about at the time). I must have been on a roll/in a mood. I think it's probably dicdef, but not speedy. Thanks for the reply, BTW. Really, it's no big deal. I never get wikistress.  :) Wikibofh 03:26, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Japan pages in nonnative english[edit]

maybe we can get a project page for them? or designate a user's namespace for them, and list that in a comment when the vfds come up? Nateji77 15:00, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • That's not a bad idea. I just hate the thought of losing valuable, if difficult to decipher information. It's one of the things I like about wiki, is that it's something that I have very little interest in, but enjoy working on sporadically. Being a "relative" newcomer, I'm open to just about any suggestion. Wikibofh 16:03, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Your refusal to countenance the solution of adding whatever valuable content you can find in these articles to the existing articles on Japan, Japanese History, Japanese nationalism, World War II, the Sino-Japanese War, the Pacific War, etc., etc. makes it very extremely difficult for me to continue to assume good faith. Ben-w 04:56, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC).
  • I must not be expressing myself well. I have no problem with the information being cleaned up and integrated into other articles. The problem is one of speed. As you can tell, cleaning these articles up is very difficult and I only have patience for it in small chunks. I would prefer these not to be deleted so that other people can run into them and help with cleaning them up. I've cleaned up 2 myself, helped on a 3rd and am slowly working on the 4th. When they're done, if they get merged into a historical section of another article, I have no problems with that. Please, do assume good faith. Trust me, I have so little interest in this subject it is shocking. If all of these articles get deleted I think it will be a loss to the wikipedia, that's it. Wikibofh 05:44, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • If you think the work is important and should be done then do it. Putting up rambling, mis-spelled, POV gibberish and saying "someone else fix it" is simply not on. Ben-w 19:02, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Just letting you know about Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/HYP (universities) 2. If you have an opinion, please vote. I am notifying people who have been active on either side of the debate. —Lowellian (talk) 23:48, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks. Precisely how many versions of this do we need to go through?  :) Wikibofh 23:55, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

In that discussion you wrote "I just don't think it's notable.". Does the expansion and refactoring that has been done (The article has been split — both parts still covered by the VFD — and expanded, significantly so in the case of the athletic information.) address your concern? Uncle G 04:45, 2005 Jun 6 (UTC)

  • I'm not sure, I'll take a look. How did these joke articles blow up into this mess?  :) Wikibofh 04:48, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • I think perhaps because, certainly in the case of Harvard-Yale-Princeton (deals being brokered by three different Presidents of the United States) and probably (given the newspaper articles) for the other (admissions) half, whatever title that ends up at, there is more than just joke POV warring about some initialisms here. ☺ Uncle G 12:32, 2005 Jun 6 (UTC)

Hey, I saw your edits to the article on WORLD Magazine, and based on their about us page (and the founder's editorial), I took the liberty to move the page to WORLD. They are inconsistent, but hopefully this is an improvement over where I orginally put the article when I started it back when I was a major noob =). --Spangineer (háblame) 17:26, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

  • I did the first edit because I went to their site and saw their title (ie the portion on the top of your web browser) had it "World". Then I did the same thing as you did and looked at "About Us" and changed it back and the other one.  :) I think perhaps "WORLD (magazine)" might be the best, however feel free to not move it or move it, I don't think it's critical either way.  :) Wikibofh 17:33, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Well, it turns out that I was basing that move on TIME's example, but now I just looked at that and they renamed it to "Time (magazine)" to be in accordance with style guidelines... So I moved this one to "World (magazine)", though it seems to be a gray area. --Spangineer (háblame) 17:52, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)
  • Yep, naming conventions seem pretty fluid, and not really 'enforced'. Like I said, I didn't mind either way. Thanks for taking care of it though. Wikibofh 18:34, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I saw your comments on this vote. I did some research and expanded the article a little. I often agree with your votes but in this case I think you are on the wrong side. Could you take a look at the article with my additions and reconsider? DS1953 06:07, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Will do, I was planning on revisiting it anyway. I was already considering changing my vote based on Wikipedia is not paper. Wikibofh 15:48, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Thanks. DS1953 16:00, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
      • Good job on the article.  :) Wikibofh 16:01, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Your duplicate report on WP:VIP[edit]

I'm not sure whethere this was on purpose or by accident, but you ended up making a duplicate vandalism report on an anon. IP. As such I removed one of the two reports. The IP address and the text of the report were identical, with the only difference being the timestamps being a minute apart. Please be a bit more careful in the future. --Chanting Fox 28 June 2005 18:00 (UTC)

  • It was accidental. When I did the first one I got a server error. I then reloaded the page, and checked the history, and neither had my entry. I then added it, and that was the only one. I figure with the software upgrade we're going to see a lot of strange things and I chalked this up as one of them. I'm not sure how much more careful I could have been.  :) Thanks for cleaning it up. Wikibofh 28 June 2005 19:02 (UTC)

Lepidoptera[edit]

I have some doubts about the wisdom of the list of super families in the taxobox on Lepidoptera. please Talk:Lepidoptera Zeimusu | (Talk page) July 3, 2005 00:22 (UTC)

Hi wikibofh, I've removed your deletion about spearfishing would porefer to come to an amicable agreement let me know

Comment by Andrewcrosby (talk · contribs)
  • I figure this is from SCUBA so update the page to make it more obvious. I agree with you that some divers oppose spear fishing (personally, it's not something I do, and I prefer it not be done when I'm near it in the water), but I don't think it belongs as an italicized comment to the link. My suggestion would be to add a spear fishing segment to SCUBA to bring it up there and cite concerns. It just doesn't belong as a comment on the link. We can also take this discussion to the article if you would prefer so that we can get more people involved. Wikibofh 6 July 2005 21:04 (UTC)

List of Irish-Americans[edit]

No problem. Wasn't planning on doing any more until later tonight anyway, since I'm about to go pick blueberries. :) —chris.lawson (talk) 9 July 2005 19:23 (UTC)

Irish American[edit]

Are you an Irish-American? 64.109.253.204 06:29, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't think I meet my own criteria.  :) My g-g-grandmother on my mother side was Irish (actually came from Ireland). Further up the chain I have a few others. I identify more Scottish than Irish. I have to go through my genealogy to figure out what percentage I would be. It's pretty small.  :) Wikibofh 06:34, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

from Chobot operator..[edit]

Is there any problem in this diff? The bot does (1) adding simple/tr links (2) sort the links according to the rule (3) Change the &blahblak; to UTF-8. That's all. -- ChongDae 18:06, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, great. I couldn't tell with the UTF/hex decode, and since the summary says simple +tr it looked like it might be doing something else. Thanks for checking. Wikibofh 18:11, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

On the subject of Ars Link Spam[edit]

[User talk page has been updated:] "Here's the page that really "stuck in my craw", so to speak:

Mac_OS_X_history

There are eleven links to Ars on that page. If that's not link spam, I don't know what is."

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.169.36.34 (talkcontribs) 00:09, 12 July 2005
  • Hard to argue with you here. I've reverted it to the non-ars version. Will take it to that talk page. Wikibofh 13:55, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Stubs[edit]

I don't think that there's any policy; I always put stubs last because, first, it helps to stop them getting too close to the article (which can look messy), and secondly they're likely to be deleted, so having them right at the end is (marginally) easier. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:53, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. Wikibofh 16:38, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Benny Hinn[edit]

I already knew his prophecies from 1989. For the full list, see here. You really think this will bring a storm to the article? It currently doesn't have much content, which would suggest that not many supporters/opponents are editing/watching the article. -- BRIAN0918  22:25, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks. If we have the audio that would be something good to get into wikisource or wikisounds or commons or whatever we use for stuff like this. As for a storm, here is how I see this playing out...a supporter will come along in a while and see them and start deleting, we'll start reverting, it will turn into a little revert fest with yelling and screaming by the supporter on Talk, and then it will all go away.  :) I didn't see a big outcry when I did the rewrite, but given the nature of the content, it feels inevitable.  :) Wikibofh 22:31, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

World War II Title picture[edit]

  • Thanks for your encouragement and criticism on my World War II Title Picture! I will immediately make changes, since my monitor probably is more-than-normally bright. I will notify on the new upload in ca. 30 minutes on the World War II discussion page.

Taxoboxes[edit]

If you don't know the authority for a name, you can use {{Taxobox section binomial simple}}. This allows taxoboxes without authorities to be found and fixed. Gdr 00:31:28, 2005-08-05 (UTC)

  • Cool, thanks. I often don't know the authority so I've been either leaving them out or commenting the ones for the level above out, but leaving it in. I'll switch to this. Thanks again. Wikibofh 03:11, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

You have to actually fill in the binomial_name entry in the {{Taxobox section binomial simple}}. Also, you only need to give the authority for the taxon described in the article. (So for an article about a species, give the authority for the species but not for the genus, unless the genus only contains the one species.) See [11], [12], [13], [14]. Gdr 17:59:02, 2005-08-07 (UTC)

  • Can you point me to where you are getting the authority from? I don't have a problem filling them in, but I honestly don't know them. I'm getting a bit discouraged on these because I'm not sure that the additions that I'm making are worth the effort they seem to be causing to get them fixed. Wikibofh 21:35, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

Wear Sunscreen[edit]

I have no idea when I first saw this, but I found it quite amazing there was no article about it in wikipedia, that's why, just now, just for no reason, I decided to start it. Coindently it's my first arcitle on wikipedia.

I want to thank you for helping me out, even a little bit, on doing that article. :)

I had no idea that article was copyrighted, as far I was reading a while ago about copyrighting, once something goes into the newspaper it gets into the public domain, in united states. I though I could leave the text there, mostly for having one more "stored place" for such a great text, as long as I left the author for it, and references.

Well among several questions I still have on how to better format the article and use wikipedia resources, I have just one for you: I want to store, in wikipedia, the text, the video and the song. Is there a way I could do that?

I know there is wikimedia, and I still haven't looked any on that. But I already knew that the text shouldn't fit into wikiMEDIA (maybe looking for wikibooks or wikiquotes?), and now I don't even know if there's a legal way to put it in here.

For one, the article looks much better without the text... I wanted to link to it, but leaving something inside wikipedia too.

Once again, thanks for you help!

Good eye on that combat ration vandal. Just for future reference, though, most people post the test4 template (the final warning) on a vandal's Talk page at about the same time they list them on WP:AIAV. Test4 usually convinces vandals to knock it off, but the listing on AIAV will get an admin's attention so that your warning has teeth. - jredmond 15:57, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Good to know. Normally people seem to knock it off after test3, but AIAV works well enough that perhaps in those occasions where it doesn't I'll go to test4 and then list. Thanks again. Wikibofh 16:08, August 10, 2005 (UTC)
