Seuna page trouble ahead[edit]

Sir, looks like the same guys (Mahawiki and Arya Rajya whatever) have come together with another person and have removed a lot of sourced material from the Seuna page and are in a high handed manner trying to redirect elsewhere. Also sourced info about Kannada from the empire had been tagged and/or renmoved and references to research by many scholars removed. I have reverted the page to where it was a couple of days back. I have indicated that no major changes can take place without broad consensus and discussion. Needless to say, Mahawiki is getting the job done by someone elseDineshkannambadi 01:56, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Blnguyen. I wouldn't call myself a "professional mathematician" yet, but I definitely agree that Hopf algebras are a subset of Quasi-Hopf algebras. What this mean for categorisation probably depends on how you look at categories - should Category:Hopf algebras contain only things specifically about Hopf algebras, or generalisations as well. If the generalisations were "notable" enough to have their own categories, then I'd say they definitely shouldn't be in the Hopf algebras cat, but otherwise, you could look at it either way. As for Australia being a Hopf algebra place, it was definitely a surprise to me to find many people editing these articles! JPD (talk) 13:24, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baka "sockpuppeteering"[edit]

Please explain how Baka used sockpuppets. I genuinely do not understand how his actions constituted sockpuppetry. Thank you, DRK 19:35, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A second account is a sockpuppet. He didn't gain an advantage by doing so in this case, as he didn't evade blocks, team revert or team-vote. He did use it to attack another user and both accounts were held responsible, so it was not treated as throwaway as he was held responsible. Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 04:30, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good to see you fighting trolls again. I dont know how a throwaway account constitutes a sock, though the Muslim guild may think otherwise. I also am not honoring dab's request, mainly because he's been racist, rude and incivil towards me.. Bakaman Bakatalk 22:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not honoring it mainly because it comes from him. I'm not really much of a harrasser myself, though being a Hindu is harrassment enough or certain users.Bakaman Bakatalk 01:46, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Does that mean you will use socks? Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 04:30, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Of course not, you think I didn't learn a lesson from my throwaway acct? No that means I'm not listening to any more of dab's incivil and rude comments. Like I said before, I think being a right-wing "chatterbot from the BJP headquarters" is harrassment enough for him.Bakaman Bakatalk 04:32, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Portal Maharashtra[edit]

Hi Blnguyen, thanks for setting up the Portal on the great nation. But I have some queries. Is there anything we can work on in this portal. How can we add value to this portal. I don't know much about portals, infact, this is the first portal I am visiting. Is there any way to participate in the portal just like I did in Wikipedia:Wikiproject Ethnic Group. All in all, Is there any way I can help or add value in this portal ? Thanks again. - AryaRajyaमहाराष्ट्र 04:19, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there is a lot to be done. Wikipedia:Featured portals gives you a good guide. Portal:India is featured and that gives a good model. Ideally, the visual stuff can be improved. The biography is not a Featured Article, so it would be good to have a featured article for the biography as the Ambedkar article is not featured. Ideally, we would have a selection of featured articles, biographies, and pictures, and then you can have article/bio/pic "of the month" and put them on a rotation policy. Also, it's good to keep on creating new articles, so that we keep the DYK and NEWS section up to date, fresh and dynamic. Eventually, we should also put a noticeboard type section at the bottom and list of notable topics and articles to draw attention to current Maharashtra projects (As is the case in the India portal). Regards, Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 04:28, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Protecting against edit wars[edit]

Full protection should be a temporary measure. If users are edit warring, they are obligated to stop and if they do not they can be blocked. Full-protect blocks everyone, when it is only a few aggressive offending parties causing the trouble. They, specifically, can be prevented, and semi-protect is sufficient to keep them out. They are of course free to behave. —Centrxtalk • 22:39, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As far as the pages which I protect, mainly the Indian religious disputes, I strongly feel that the protection is the better option as it is always the same group who are always warring, and not thrid party collateral damage. As such it is better to lock the page as the users involved also have skills at article writing and it would be better to divert them to some more productive editing rather than lock them out completely. As for the Falun Gong stuff - those guys are incorrigible and do little else than fight, continuously and indulge in irrelevant flaiming on the talk pages. I am also astonished that you delete the {{deletedpage}} after two weeks and the pages are sometimes recreated. Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 02:55, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Low time periods would not be a problem for that, and part of the effectiveness of a block is not that they are prevented from editing during that time period, but that at any other time they will also be discouraged from edit warring lest they be blocked. Regarding deleted pages, the vast majority of these are not re-created, and the reason I unblock some relatively recent ones that have only been re-created during a short period of time is because, working on the other end, there was a huge backlog that only grows and grows because no one cleans up the deletedpages, and they do prevent the creation of legitimate pages. —Centrxtalk • 03:03, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

When you have time, can you please check whether Mihir Bose has modified any of these in the second edition.

1. The MCC tour of 1930-31 (& a SAF tour) was planned in a trip to England in 1928 by RE Grant Govan and Anthony de Mello. Appears in page 61 in the first edition.

2. Birth place of Vizzy (in the list of cricketers in the appendix). Vizianagram as per 1st ed.

3. The year in which India joined ICC. In p.61, it reads "By the time India was admitted in the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1929, the impetus was gone"

Tia, Tintin (talk) 06:14, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vizianagar is the same place. If the journey was in 1928 and "to" England (I may have misread it as "from"), it may lead to messy issues about the year in which India joined the ICC (This, the last part of this, and this contains the background).
The A in TA Sekhar stands for Anathanpillai, which is often written as two words. That will explain the TAP. Once upon a time Kumble used to get listed as Anil Radhakrishna Kumble (Radhakrishna Kumble being his father). They may have removed the middle name somewhere along the way ! Tintin (talk) 14:19, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm sort of hoping that other people will keep their eyes out so that I only have to maintain the articles which I wrote, which is unfortunately not the case. I don't know anything about Maharashtra really, and mainly plastered the portal together from whatever the featured material was available - as for the needs of the Maharashtra WikiProject, I would not know what the core topics and high priority would be. 'umble[edit]

Checked the Kumble issue. Looks like Wisden never used his middle name. In the Who's Who in Indian Cricket, he appears as "Kumble, Anil Radhakrishna" until 1994. There is no middle name from 1995 onwards. Tintin (talk) 08:52, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are Sikhs who don't wear turban and are clean shaven, who are called "Mona Sikhs". Harvinder Singh apparently is another (it is hearsay; can't put it in the article). Tintin (talk) 09:09, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you recently blocked this user for incivility and personal attacks. In one of his edits ([6]), he claims to be banned user Irate. The IP matches the range of this user. Hkelkar's comment[edit]

Here-- the comment "Looks like the ji(had)g is up." by Hkelkar.

I added the section POV tag (here) to the Muslim Caste section and explained my reasoning on the talk page. Hkelkar subsequently reverted it and countered it on the talk page, which is where he stated the above comment. I classified it as a personal attack, as it implied jihad on my part. Hkelkar denied that it was a personal attack directed at me (here). Do you think this would constitute as a personal attack, incivility, or neither? Thank you, and have a nice Wikbreak! Mar de Sin Speak up! 22:36, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it was not a personal attack per WP:NPA because the comment was on the content and not on the contributor. I did not address the contributor by any person in that sentence but was making a generic statement about the content of his edits. Basawala was not the subject of the sentence as defined by the rules of high school English grammar. If you can provide a line of reasoning that is within the scope of wikipedia policies that establish the sentence as a personal attack then please inform me and I will apologize to Basawala.Hkelkar 22:50, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advice needed..[edit]

Hello, Although i had opposed making a new article of Belgaum_border_dispute it was made after insistance of a user.As I had feared the new article is being again used to advertise Karnataka's stand. If u see and read the article u will find emphasis on Mahajan report which is anti-Maharashtra.Kannadi editors are taking advantage of the fact that all pro-Maharashtra sources are in Marathi.I have an important citation which I will to use to balance the article and also specify Maha's stand on border issue. But Kannadi editors are not allowing me to use the source without translation.I do know translation is needed for using non-English sources but do we have to provide a2z translations or only of the quotes used in article?Plz help!It is highly impossible to translate each and every article and the special issue of a Marathi newspaper which I intend to use.Morever Kannada editors will generously use Deccan_herald and other pro-Kannadi citations to push their POV.This will of course result into a biased article. Just a minor typo, no big deal. The images have gotten much better since you had the genius idea of putting them at CAT:CSD. I can't get into posting DYK now, too much on the plate, I've also been working on images at the Commons ;-). DVD+ R/W 01:56, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sarvagnya's vandalism[edit]

Dear Sir, He is removing his official warnings on his page and non-obscene msgs for no reason.see this thisand THIS.Morever as a revenge he issued me a warning for no reason HERE.Note that he has alleged me that I vandalise his page and given me a No personal attack' warning! Mahawiki 06:26, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please See this link too where sarvagnya himself had warned against removing official warnings.Mahawiki 07:02, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also request u to allow me to remove the warning he gave me out of revenge. Mahawiki 06:27, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
@Mahawiki - I give myself the right to remove bogus and frivolous warnings especially when it comes from people with poor records for decency like you, Arya and Baka. First of all, in your warnings you do not even mention where my supposed indiscretion happened. All you do is keep harping on some supposed misuse of popups and you fail to mention where. Also THIS is an unabashed and shameless case of trolling.
Dear admin, I request you to take note of this never ending incivility of this user and block him. Please note that after you had blocked him, he has been blocked once more by another admin. Even then, his incivility has shown no signs of ending.
Also please note THIS and THIS on User:Jimbo Wales' own page. This is a clear case of misrepresenting others and trying to mislead the user/admin(Jimbo Wales(!!) in this case). This is nothing short of slander! Sarvagnya 07:22, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Blnguyen, its sad how a useless regionalistic debate has invaded every India-related article. I could care less about the Kannada-Marathi debate, but thanks to Sarvagnya, I have moved slowly Northward. You may wish to look at Talk:Saare Jahan Se Achcha where he has unilaterally reverted/vandalized the article 12 times in five days.Bakaman Bakatalk 00:28, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I stopped caring. Perhaps they will invade the Rahul Dravid page now as he is of mixed regioniticity. Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 04:34, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is not done, admin! U seem to quick in blocking me but dont care to find who's troublemaker here. For the "N"th time let me request u to keep a watch on Belgaum_border_dispute.U have blocked me twice and IMO i think on both occasions it was unwarranted.
@Baka I am really concerned about belgaum_border_dispute article. It was a one-sided article before I stepped in. Now the user sarvagnya is not letting any stone unturned by badmouthing me on wikipedia noticeboard! I am not the guilty atlest on belagaum issue, why do these people hate Marathi so much. How can I allow these people talking mean about my language/state?
