This page contains the articles successfully nominated to be a TAFI in August 2012. This month saw the first successful nominations in the project, with Culture being the first article selected.
I'm being bold and making the first close here, but I think we need to start somewhere. This nom definitely has support - enough to get something done, at least, and I'm going ahead and adding this to the schedule for the first week in September (therefore starting the 1st). Culture is a Level 1 vital article, but it is currently C-Class. In the past 90 days, culture has been viewed over 350,000 times. The article was delisted as a good article in 2009. The GAR can be seen at Talk:Culture/Archive 6#GA Reassessment. Ryan Vesey 19:48, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- John Carter (talk) 19:25, 26 August 2012 (UTC) As good a choice as any, and I have to think getting it in good shape might also help linking to it and maybe make it easier to decide what content gets included in other articles, but I honestly prefer my own choice below ;)[reply]
- Given this article's high volume of traffic and its significance, it strikes me as a pretty good starting point. Kurtis (talk) 20:27, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- A very useful concept to have a good quality article on. Rich Farmbrough, 01:03, 28 August 2012 (UTC).[reply]
Comments
- This article would benefit from a to-do list being created prior to becoming TAFI. I will try to find an example of another article using the to-do list method. Ryan Vesey 19:48, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Talk:Culture/GA1#Result of GAR - why article has been delisted might give some guidance on what needs to be done. -- Toshio Yamaguchi (tlk−ctb) 20:57, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose' (I know its not a vote, but that pretty much sums up my comment) If we're trying to pull in newbies to the project, I think we really shouldn't start off with an article with loads of text. It's scary to people and they won't know what to get rid of and what to keep. I really think we should use (or at least start of with) articles that only have to really be added to, rather than changed entirely. That's much easier prospect, and one that can allow us to ease new editors in gently. Pick stubs. Pick starts. Articles with entirely missing sections. There are many out there. But I don't think type of article is a good way to go.--Coin945 (talk) 10:09, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't know that we are necessarily looking for novice editors. They are free to take part, but this project can't survive without the input of experienced editors. Ryan Vesey 17:49, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- So then, according to your description, this TAFI idea is essentially a Core Contest without any prizes at the end of it? Hmmmmm.... :/ I just dint think we've thought our target market through. I imagined this as a way to get newbies involved with some experienced editor help and meditation...--Coin945 (talk) 23:49, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I thought the main purpose of this project is article improvement. What does it have to do with pulling newbies to the project? -- Toshio Yamaguchi (tlk−ctb) 00:08, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Well,.even if its not explicitly stated anywhere about choosing articles that can also be relevant to newbies, surely trying to mass market articles to the wiki community is better than choosing a niche market. Im just thinking of ways to get the entire community involved... And that, whether experienced editors like to admit it or not, includes newbies. if they are going to edit, and there us nothing we can do about it, lets be prepared.--Coin945 (talk) 00:18, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- There's a big difference between preparing for new editors to be involved and gearing this directly towards new editors. In fact, newer editors aren't as likely to take part as experienced editors because they are less likely to be aware of it's existence. Ryan Vesey 00:26, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree with Coin945, you want things which are screaming for content if we are looking at novice editors. I'll find some examples. Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:51, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Ahhh.. my bad. I saw the "F" in the acronym and naturally assumed it meant featured, as in on the main page. That makes sense. I'll still leave my suggestions above there as they are all vital articles, but in the future i'll only add article which are appropriate to the project.
- I added some above. Analysis, sadness and letter (alphabet) are some more examples.--Coin945 (talk) 14:05, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
