Posted on talk page about modifying article title. No one responding. What to do?

I posted on a talk page: "Who decided to call it the 'Latvian Hockey Higher League'?" I had concluded that in English the league should referred to as the "Latvian Premier League". Seems no one is coming to talk. Low readership, I think. What to do? Try to contact one of the very few recent editors to discuss the title change? Or just go ahead and make the change? user:Gragox, created the article in 2006 as Latvian Hockey League, and was active as of a few months ago. User:Dukurs moved it to its current name in 2016 and was still active as of just a few days ago. Maybe one of them will comment now that they have been pinged here. You could also formally propose a move (see WP:RM) on the talk page, or just WP:BEBOLD and move it if you are confident in the name. Meters (talk) 06:45, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tnobermeyer Wikipedia is not the place for you to advocate for changes to how the State of Alaska selects its judges. If you represent a group advocating for that, that needs to be disclosed, please see conflict of interest. If you want to summarize what independent reliable sources say about how Alaska is considering changing how it selects its judges, that's a different matter, but that's not what you are doing. Could I please have help

Could someone please help me move my article to the mainspace from draft, as I am having a lot of trouble doing so.

My article is called The_Desert_Song_(Max_Liebman_Presents), but has the word 'Draft' at the beginning of the name of the article. I am not able to move the article because the name for the article remains the same (even with the extra word 'Draft').

Figaro, you need to submit Draft:The Desert Song (Max Liebman Presents) as a candidate for promotion to article status. However, there's no point doing so any time soon, as the draft says very little that appears to be reliably sourced. (Three sources are specified -- although just what each is referencing is unclear. I didn't click on any of the three, but I know that IMDb is unacceptable, and the other two look very dubious.) No, it's right. Su Bingtian has four links to Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 4 × 100 metres relay which says:

"During the Olympics, British athlete CJ Ujah tested positive for anabolic agent ostarine and steroid-like S-23 (drug), and was provisionally suspended, confirmed on 14 September by B-sample.^[1]^[2] On 18 February 2022, the British team was disqualified and officially stripped of the silver medal.^[3]^[4]^[5] The International Olympic Committee requested all members of Great Britain's relay team to return their medals. 331dot (talk · contribs) I am, of course, aware that I'm talking to a highly experienced and knowledgeable Wikipedian, here. But I suggest to you that overly-broad statements like "In short, Jamaicans are from Africa," is more than a little TOO "in short" to be helpful, or even to lend credibility--because some people know that it's not 100% true. I do realize that the woman in question (pardon me, for personal reasons, I prefer to avoid speaking or writing her name--nothing to do with the question here) does have origins in Africa, through her Jamaican father. I also realize that the indigenous Arawakan people are gone from Jamaica. But first, remember that Jamaica was settled by Spanish, and then English settlers. OK, after several centuries, it's probably impossible to find a descendant of one of them who doesn't also have an ancestor of African descent. But far more recently, south Asian peoples have settled there. And there is a little-known community of German heritage; you'd be hard-put to find a member of that community who can actually speak German, but they still look like anyone from the Fatherland. As this article makes clear, we are all "from Africa" if you go far enough back in our ancestry. That's not why Harris, or anyone else, is described as such in Wikipedia biographies. Article dispute

A recent article I wrote that passed draft review and is now in the article space has been nominated for deletion. The article is All Saints Episcopal Church (Carmel-by-the-Sea, California). Looks like there are more delete votes than keep votes.

How do I prevent this article from deletion and open it up for further discussion?
If it deleted, how do I appeal the dicesion?
A third question is, why are there thousands of Category:Articles lacking sources that have been open for years when certain editors choose my article for deletion? Am I an easy target?

Greghenderson2006, this isn't about you, it's about the draft. And yes, I found the decision to !vote "delete" fairly easy. Most editors are here to help improve Wikipedia. The argument "I've found some poor articles on Wikipedia, so I'm justified in creating another equally poor article" does not go down well with us. Maproom (talk) 20:55, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the artilce is well written with plenty of citations and do think it should be deleted. Rather, if we are here to make Wikipedia better, then the artilce should (a) be allowed to be updated; (b) or moved into draft to allow the creating editor to make the changes. I see too many editors quick to delete articles rather than work with the editor to improve it. Seems like it is easier for them to just delete it and move on. Articles may be improved while they're at AfD. If an editor is, for one reason or another, unable to improve the article directly, they're welcome to make suggestions on the article's talk page. As for me, I'm happy to fix minor defects in articles but I'm tired of "working with" the creators of seriously defective articles; rather, those creators should have done a conscientious job in the first place. -- Hoary (talk) 21:12, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Greghenderson2006, you prevent deletion by persuasively making policy-based arguments in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/All Saints Episcopal Church (Carmel-by-the-Sea, California). Deletion, or not, is already open for further discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/All Saints Episcopal Church (Carmel-by-the-Sea, California). If it is deleted and you can argue persuasively that the deletion was mistaken, you will be able to do so. (If you're thinking of attempting to overturn deletion just because you disagree with deletion, forget about it.) And, yes, other crap exists; perhaps you'd like to choose one or two examples and either (A) improve them so that they're no longer unreferenced crap or (B) nominate them for deletion. -- Hoary (talk) 21:07, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Finer grained difference.

When I do a diff between two versions of an article it shows me a word that changed, I'd like to see the changes at the letter/byte level. For example, if the difference between two versions of an article looks like a change from the Greek Letters Phi Beta Kappa to Phi Beta K, that would look exactly the same as if someone changed the Greek letters Phi Beta Kappa to Phi B Kappa. Different letters were changed, but the diff look exactly the same, simply highlighting the three letters. (I flipped a coin between asking here and asking at the Village Pump, so I won't take a "go to the Village Pump" as a bad result.)Naraht (talk) 21:04, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The MediaWIki diff for [1] shows a change from OΚΕ to ΟΚΕ. One of the letters was changed from a Latin letter to a Greek letter but the diff doesn't show which one, or whether two or all three letters were changed. If you enable wikEdDiff at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets then you get an option to see an alternative diff (you can still see the MediaWiki diff). wikEdDiff shows that O was changed to Ο while ΚΕ was unchanged. I think it varies which diff is "best" but it's nice to have an alternative when the MediaWiki diff is "poor". Both diffs are correct. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:51, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Those are not the only options. Wikipedia is written by volunteers who tend to write about things they are interested in and knows about. Nobody is assigned to write specific articles. The English Wikipedia has more editors from English speaking and Western countries than from Russia. The Russian Wikipedia is probably different. It's most likely that nobody with the right interest, knowledge and source access (may require you to know Russian) has written what you want, and nobody has decided against having it.
