Soap[edit]

Is the copyright on the theme music for "Soap" still valid? If so, who would I have to approach for permission to use it on a UK amdram website? Ralphdot (talk) 09:20, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as the show is from 1977, the copyright is definitely still valid, and will not expire for decades to come. (I can't give you an exact date without doing more research, but it doesn't really matter for your purposes; the point is, the copyright is undoubtedly still valid.) You should approach the copyright owner, but I don't know who that is, and figuring it out can be difficult -- there lawyers whose sole job is to discover these things. My first guess guess would be ABC, who broadcast the series in the first place, but they may well have sold the property (or perhaps they never owned it). Also note that in general, if you ask permission for something like this, big companies tend to say no on general principle, so even if you find the right party to ask, the odds of actually receiving permission are small. -- Captain Disdain (talk) 10:00, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

pt of this website[edit]

what is the pt of this website —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mouserun (talkcontribs) 03:08, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Part? Portugal? Point? Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Would you care to be a little more specific? Also, I added a header for this question and moved it under September 13, as that's when you asked the question. -- Captain Disdain (talk) 10:03, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you talking about http://pt.wikipedia.org? That's the Portuguese language Wikipedia. Corvus cornixtalk 21:07, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most of this website is written in 12pt. DJ Clayworth (talk) 17:10, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Completely instrumental version of Carmen?[edit]

Is there an instrumental recording of Carmen available somewhere? Just the orchestra, no singers. I really like the opera as it is, but an instrumental version would be just great. — Kieff | Talk 17:12, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think Carmen Suite by Rodion Shchedrin is what you are looking for. --Dr Dima (talk) 20:24, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a great recording, but (a) it isn't the whole opera, but a massaged selection of excerpts, and (b) it used a very effective, but nevertheless quite unorthodox, battery of percussion instruments. It is excellent music-making, but it doesn't really meet the questioner's need. I don't know of any purely instrumental version of the whole opera. -- JackofOz (talk) 02:33, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
However, this might be what you're after. Andre Kostelanetz basically used Bizet's orchestration, with maybe an extra violin or cello voice added here or there to compensate for the absence of the human voice/s. This particular recording is not the whole opera either, but it has 16 well-known excerpts. Kostelanetz did the same for Puccini's La bohème, and that sold very well - it really was the entire opera, without voices; so I imagine he did the same for Carmen. Another option is the 2 Carmen Suites that were around for decades before Shchedrin. They were apparently cobbled together by a Fritz Hoffmann, but they're generally referred to as just Bizet's Carmen Suites. They probably cover much the same ground as the Kostelanetz version, but in a different order. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:05, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have the same Kostelanetz version and have even gotten some kids hooked on it; I think regular opera pretty much puts them off. Of course, there is the musical version of Hamlet that uses Carmen. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 21:14, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"EMERGENCY" "HELP US PLEASE"[edit]

To whom it may concern,

Hello, my name is Kerri. I am married and have three children. I live in Birch Run Michigan. My family is in desperate need of emergency assistance / help. Michigan is so bad right now. I have applied for over 150 + jobs and I have had only 5 interviews, but did not get hired unfortunatly. My husband is a Journeyman Electrician and he also cannot find a job anywhere. We are about out of options and have nothing. We rent a home in Birch Run, Michigan and we are almost three months behind and my landlord is pretty upset with us right now and we may be evicted soon. I don't know if you offer such help, but I had to at least try to ask you if you could in anyway help our family out. I do not have anywhere to go if we get evicted. I don't know what I am going to tell my children. They feel safe and are stable and go to school full time. I feel like I have failed my family and I for some reason don't know how to fix this simply because I cannot get a job, have no other souce of income, no vehicle, no credit, basically I have nothing. I am begging you from the bottom of my empty heart to help my family or let me know of someone who can help us immidiatly for my childrens sake if not mine.

Sincerely, Kerriann Stoddard —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.19.18.68 (talk) 17:48, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can't imagine why you think an entertainment reference desk is the place to ask. What you need is a social worker of some kind. Maybe something here might be of use to you. You strike me as someone who is pretty confused about what's going on; maybe some kind of counseling would be more appropriate. Check through those listings; most are in Flint, but some may be closer to you. Good luck. Matt Deres (talk) 20:47, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let me just encourage you that if you've had about 5 interviews in 150+ resumes, you are doing well; most people have 2-3 per 100 from the hearsay I've heard in NE Ohio. So, you do have some skills that people will want; it's just that things are, as you say, very bad in that area.
Do you attend a church with some kind of social network or food pantry? If not, you might try one that is willing to help short term with food and/or clothing. That is important, too, because if you don't have one, it will help to build a social network of people you can turn to who are real, rather than online, and who - in a good one - will provide strength and edification - the buildingup of others - for you, and help increase your faith.
Because , from what you say, you're doing pretty well yourself; you not only have skills, as I say from the interview numbers, you are caring for your children well, as they feel safe and secure. But, you feel helpless and need somewhere to turn. And, a good church should not only talk about God, but also show who He is by how they help others.Somebody or his brother (talk) 19:05, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have you considered moving somewhere where the job prospects are better? Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the U.S. by a large margin. Skilled electricians shouldn't have much trouble finding work where the economy is better. This chart lists the states by unemployment rates. —D. Monack talk 05:27, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cel Shaded Anime movies?[edit]

Besides the two Appleseed movies and Vexille, what other high-end cel shaded anime movies or series are there? --70.167.58.6 (talk) 18:49, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is an extensive list in Cel-shaded animation#Film and Television. It includes a number of anime titles. Did you check it? --Dr Dima (talk) 20:36, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --70.167.58.6 (talk) 20:18, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
