The resulting WikiProject was withdrawing proposal. --George Ho (talk) 16:53, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Description
[edit]The previous proposal was intended as Wikipedia:WikiProject Cheers (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). However, it was a failure, so it got deleted. Nevertheless, this proposal is intended as a task force, and I hope there are enough broad numbers to cover this proposed task force, a parent of WP:TV. In fact, many articles related to Cheers need attention. This proposal should be separate from the show Frasier because... Cheers characters appear once and the only people who appear more than once are Lilith Sternin and Diane Chambers. George Ho (talk) 04:21, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- This is a proposed task force. Cheers is a popular topic, but the episodes need attention, as well as characters. Also, someday List of recurring Cheers characters must be renamed to "List of Cheers characters", so it must resemble List of Friends characters.

[edit]Although I am not adamantly opposed to it there was a project for Cheers that was deleted due to long term nonsupport here. I'm not sure if it would do anybetter as a task force. Kumioko (talk) 13:29, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment'. I'm not altogether convinced that this shouldn't include Frasier. A larger scope would be a benefit, rather than a drawback, and the shows are definitely linked. Multiple characters cross over, several doing so multiple times (Lilith, Freddie, Diane). If the scope here was widened I'd be supportive of this; it's a realistic expectation—( would expect, for example, a Happy Days project to include Laverne and Shirley, Blansky's Beauties, Mork and Mindy, Joanie Loves Chachi, The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang and even Laverne and Shirley in the Army. I'm probably missing a few there. GRAPPLE X 13:31, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Yeah, well... there is no further developed relationship between Frasier and other crossover characters (except Lilith) in Frasier, aside from Cheers. What if people who never watched Cheers did not like the appearance of Woody Harrelson? We can't use a connection between Frasier and Cheers; that would cloud our judgment and blend in people who have watched 'only Frasier and not Cheers and people who have watched only Cheers and not Frasier and fanboys (seriously!). Speaking of Frasier, I'll make a separate task. By the way, who's Freddie? I've never seen him in Cheers yet; where is "Freddie"? But you don't have to explain the details; give me brief instead. --George Ho (talk) 15:51, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Frasier's son Freddie; he and Lilith have a child in Cheers, and he becomes a recurring character in Frasier. I don't necessarily think combining the two series under one umbrella would cloud any judgement of either one—WP:TXF covers three series, and work on them doesn't overlap beyond the framework of the project, but having editors familiar with one series show an interest in another has proven beneficial (for example, sources uncovered working Millennium articles have been used to help expand The X-Files articles and vice-versa, this kind of thing is likely to arise with Cheers and Frasier being even more closely linked than those two). GRAPPLE X 16:06, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh, great. I even forgot the kid... who has not appeared and developed a lot in Cheers and Frasier. He was... just there... for Frasier and Lilith. Sam and Diane developed a lot in Cheers yet... they haven't much in the Cheers finale and Frasier episodes. As the Millenium show, I wonder if the task force proposal was attempted, as people who have not watched Millenium do not know or care how Millenium proceeded. The Lone-Gunman I can understand because...it's short-lived. --George Ho (talk) 16:20, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Wait... Mouth references do not count, and neither should Cheers. As I read in other self-published unreliable sources (e.g. forums), viewers of Frasier who did not watch Cheers do not understand the reference of Cheers... and we're not sure if they need to know and understand the connection. For example, let's hypothesize Sam in Frasier. How is he developed? He appeared only once in Frasier and never again. If you don't watch Cheers, then you barely knew Sam other than the fact that he has... romantic problems, dependency on Frasier, and has a relationship that falls apart at the end, even if he got along with the Cranes. He's just... there. Also, Diane: she appeared two times as part of Frasier's dream and once in the flesh. Diane's just there... and no one know who she is without Cheers. --George Ho (talk) 16:31, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment this is a really bad name. "Cheers" are something you see cheerleaders do, or a type of toast, or something crowds do. If this is created it should be called "WP:WikiProject Cheers TV" or something. 70.49.124.147 (talk) 05:42, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- This proposal is of a task force. Actually, it's going to be titled WP:WikiProject Television/Cheers task force. Get it? --George Ho (talk) 07:05, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
[edit]- You should specify when you say Cheers, you're talking about the TV series. I first thought this was short for Cheerleading.
- I think this project is much too narrow a scope, with under 30 valid pages in Category:Cheers.
- You've already created WP:WikiProject Cheers, so proposing to create a project after you've already done it defeats the purpose of a proposal.
- Your signature doesn't provide a link to your userpage, which it must, see Wikipedia:Signatures#Links. This is especially important since it would be tough for a user to get User:Odhfan 01 from Lady Rose.
- You're using a non-free image for the userbox (Template:User:Odhfan 01/cheersproject), which has an incorrect name.
- Lastly your editing has been sporadic, which makes it difficult to maintain a project if no one is able to consistently work on the material and respond to any issues that may arise.
For all these reasons I would suggest you consider working via Wikipedia:WikiProject Television, and delete the created WikiProject Cheers Pages. -Optigan13 (talk)23:31, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Sorry I am new to the whole WikiaProject thing. I though you had to make the page before you post it here. and the pic for the userbox was on the Cheers TV Show Wiki page. I don't know who to make UserBoxs so I had help.---- Lady Rose (talk • contrib) 21:09, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
