Is there a Facebook event that's been created yet? I understand the RSVP'ing on here but with Facebook I'd actually have a reminder so I could possibly try to go. It'd also be good to try to invite some friends in an organized manner ;) So... just wondering. Yes? No? In the works?

Invitation to join 'Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States' (WALRUS)

We'd love to have an Arizona representative join the Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States (WALRUS) committee to help advance real-life Wikimedian activities in the US.

Maybe a Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Your City or Wikipedia:Workshop is in your area's future!

Weather

Is this indoors? Why would anybody want to do anything outdoors at 3 p.m. on June 25 in Scottsdale? I want to come, but I value my life. Tom Haws (talk) 07:31, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm not one of the organizers, but I gather that it's an outdoor picnic because that is the style of event that has been chosen for the corresponding nationwide event, the Great American Wiknic. A picnic in June makes sense in most of the US, but I agree that June is a not the best time for a picnic in Phoenix. Given that, the location of the event surprises me. Google Street View shows it to be mostly concrete and asphalt, with only a little shade along sidewalks if the shadows are right. Now, I've not lived long in Arizona, so I still believe a picnic should be held where there are trees, grass, water, and shaded picnic benches. Kiwanis Park in Tempe, for example. Nevertheless, I plan on attending to meet the people. And, as the notice says, people may go visit cooler places later. — Wdfarmer (talk) 09:54, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about the picnic being outside, but after trying to solicit suggestions, people told me to simply name a place. There are several indoor restaurants in the area that we might be able to visit later on. The nearby parking garage also has substantial shade (albeit made of concrete). Had I heard this concern earlier, I might have chosen some place indoors, but I don't want to change the location at the last minute either.--Jax 0677 (talk) 18:22, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

You've got to be kidding me, this is roughly equivalent to having a picnic in January in Minnesota.
