Introduction
[edit]Hi my name is Kristin aka Tattoodwaitress, I created account on here years ago and quite honestly have been so afraid of failure when it comes to editing pages that I never really got started. Since then I have thought about it many times and finally decided to introduce myself and attempt to get going with an edit here and there. How does one get really basic help (besides the help section) is there a way to chat with other users here? Just curious Signing with Tattoodwaitress (talk) 00:43, 31 May 2012 (UTC) as instructed above and am wondering about the text image I am to create which will signify that I am me? Forgive this really really newbie here (Tattoodwaitress (talk) 00:43, 31 May 2012 (UTC))
- Hi! I replied on Tattoodwaitress' talk page. heather walls (talk) 00:59, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Improve Wikipedia with me
[edit]Orschstaffer (talk) 23:31, 4 June 2012 (UTC), I'm going to the teahouse for new editors right now. My teahouse links are somewhere lost in pages[1] that I am trying to improve. While typing in teahouse in search the teahouse page came up with banners and such pleading for help. So I look at the talk page and see you [2] posted about this very thing, so here I am. Come see me at my school assignment for Orsch, the coi prevents me from creating my initial school assignment called Orsch and would like to see it created, however, as it is my school assignment, I am obliged to trade, I fix yours and you fix mine, or relevant to Guidelines let's improve Wikipedia together. Would you care to collaborate?
- ^ I know where they are, but to Improve Wikipedia I do this as a class assignment
- ^ I copied this same post to a usertalk page.
Fancy that, that users' talk page above needs some kind of redirect for WP:Teahouse searchers who enter Teahouse in the search field. What is the solution? I will academicize it in my School Project to Improve Wikipedia. Orschstaffer (talk) 00:15, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Adding guests to the upper columns
[edit]Just FYI: I added an HTML comment, explaining that we need the left-hand column of guests to be no longer (or at least, not much longer), than the right-hand column. This is because the left-hand column is placed with the css property "display:absolute", which means that it's not taken into account when the page lays itself out. The bottom of the page (where guests initially place their profiles) is placed without regard to the length of the left column; only the right column "counts." The practical upshot of this is: if the left column is longer than the right column by enough, it will overlap the bottom section. So, we should try to make the columns even when possible, and err on the side of making the right hand column longer. Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 19:36, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out, Writ Keeper! As the only one moving guests for a while, I didn't bother to explain some things (my apologies). I also want to note (here, for others) that I tended to leave the most recent guest at the bottom so people making new profiles didn't think there was something wrong when theirs did not look like everyone else. Thanks again! If anyone wants to adjust the code to prevent this from happening, that would also be awesome (my attempt failed). heather walls (talk) 20:16, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
- You mean I broke it?
- AwahiliGuni (talk) 04:04, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, no, you're fine; this is a different issue that happened earlier today. Some of your templates are a bit messed up, though; I'll fix it for you, no worries! Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 04:14, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- Or Heather will beat me to the punch! Oh well. You should be fine now, thanks! Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 04:16, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
Sockpuppet
[edit]- User:Mukta Bieber is blocked
- User:StandardSwan is indefinitely blocked as a sockpuppet. MathewTownsend (talk) 00:23, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there, you're welcome to remove blocked editors from the guest page. I have done it previously. I'll take care of these folks, but, in the future, again, feel free to removed blocked guests, hosts, etc, if you wish. Sarah (talk) 01:04, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- ok, but I can't figure out how these pages work. I did try. MathewTownsend (talk) 01:13, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- When you go to edit the page you just have to search for the users profile entry and then remove the template. Sarah (talk) 01:17, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia book link?
[edit]Hi everyone. I noticed that someone added a link to the Wikipedia Missing Manual book. It appears to have messed up the layout a bit and doesn't look like it really fits in well. I think it'd be best to remove it, or move it else where (a Teahouse helpful links page? I don't know)... just a thought. Sarah (talk) 01:10, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Sarah, that was me, I sent you an email. The layout is the same as it always was (unless it looks different to you, somehow.) It was discussed here. Feel free to remove it and we can talk about making a helpful links page. heather walls (talk) 01:16, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- I saw the conversation, perhaps I missed the email (I'm traveling). Perhaps it just looks odd for me due to the size of my screen size or...I don't know. Here is a clip of the screenshot[1]. Sarah (talk) 01:20, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- That looks pretty bad! Reverted. heather walls (talk) 02:12, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- Good try though :) Sarah (talk) 02:16, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Edit message upon adding yourself as a guest
[edit]The edit message upon adding yourself as a guest states that "images you upload to Commons will be placed in the public domain for anyone to use, for any reason, even commercially", which is not necessarily true. This should probably be fixed. — cdwn 00:42, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
- Please tell us what would be true, thanks! heather walls (talk) 00:46, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
- Well, you can upload under a variety of licenses, of which almost all are not public domain, or even similar. As an example, releasing under the GPL does not release into the public domain, and does not permit use "for any reason" (it has stipulations). The offending sentence seems unnecessary. — cdwn 00:49, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
The Wikipedia:Teahouse/Guests project page is a member of hidden Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. I haven't figured out why yet. — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 02:53, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Guest profiles need work
[edit]The teahouse is awesome, super helpful Q&A forum, rapid and always helpful answers, friendly and thoughtful hosts. The guest profiles though seemed hokey and awkwardly setup when I first joined and also today as I peek back at them. The big giant pictures of random objects makes it seem kind of abandoned for some reason. The first guest page has just a few profiles it's not clear if they are the most recent or what. The archive is strange to a new person you would expect a directory not a bunch of archive pages, and here the big gray mostly empty rectangles again make it seem empty. I will try to think of more constructive ideas for Improvement but wanted to at least mention this. The teahouse is great and useful and dare I say cool as-is though so keep it up. WELCOME TO NEW TEAHOUSE GUESTS!
[edit]Hello new Teahouse guests, my name is Zane and I welcome you to the Wikipedia Teahouse. Teahouse is a forum where new Wikipedia editors, like myself, interact with each other. Members of Teahouse interact by asking questions, and developing community relations. I hope that we interact with each other and get to know each other better. Have a great day everybody!!

Inviting new users to OUT themselves at Step 1, with no warnings
[edit]Just noticed that the template that gets opened when you click "Introduce yourself" here at the Wikipedia:Teahouse/Guests page, at step 1, says "Step 1. Type your real name after realname=". There is a note, that says "Tell us the name you go by, or leave this blank if you prefer to use your Wikipedia username." but there is nothing here warning people who would be using that - who tend to be new - about the downsides of self-OUTING, as WP:REALNAME does. I don't think having that as Step 1 is wise. Jytdog (talk) 12:42, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't think it is either. I do not use my real name online--I feel that that's why they created screen names in the first place. That step should just be removed totally. White Arabian mare (Neigh) 19:45, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
Problem using Teahouse
[edit]Twice now the Ask My Question remains greyed out even though I've included the four tildes. The following is a screen shot:

New TH Header for this page
[edit]Greetings, There is some complicated wikicode for the old Header on this page, especially for the "Introduce yourself" so I left all of that alone. I will ask for help from WP:VPT experts to cleanup. See TH Talk page for more discussion details. Regards, — JoeHebda • (talk) 14:32, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
