List of missing topics about food
My list of missing topics about food is updated - Skysmith (talk) 13:45, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Wheat mildew
Wheat mildew is a bot-generated article whose only reference is Household Cyclopedia. The article is terribly out of date and was tagged for 'tone' in 2007. In my opinion, its only interest is historical (and the history of housekeeping or wheat belongs elsewhere). Perhaps this article should be made into a redirect to Wheat diseases or Blumeria graminis. Any opinions/suggestions? Leschnei (talk) 19:56, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
Would you like access to Bloomsbury Food Library?
Hi everyone. The Wikipedia Library provides access to a number of collections from Bloomsbury, who enquired whether there would be any interest in adding Bloomsbury Food Library to the partnership, so I thought I'd come here to find out! The library contains 75 ebooks and food encyclopedias, among other resources. If you edit food and drink articles, would these resources be of use to you? Nutritional value tables
Hey, I noticed many nutritional value tables have values for cooked/prepared foods, even for basic ingredients, for example adzuki bean. Is there any reason/guideline for this? As ways of preparing food can vary, and it isn't known how the food the values are given for was prepared, these are probably not as useful as values for raw, uncooked food would be. --62.165.209.8 (talk) 12:45, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
In 2024, global health organizations, including the WHO, stress the importance of separating raw and cooked nutritional values to improve clarity. This approach ensures more precise data, catering to diverse preparation methods and dietary needs.
- The guideline in place is that the information should come from a reliable source which Wikipedia identifies with a citation. At the bottom of the box you can see that this information comes from the United States Department of Agriculture. Since they are the best authority that anyone in Wikipedia has identified, then Wikipedia presents the information in the way that this organization does.
- If you have ideas and information for a better way of presenting information then share it. There is no obligation to fix everything but if you have something to say to advance the discussion then talk it through with a foundation in what the best available sources do. Wikipedia will never be better than the information which users find published elsewhere. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:37, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- I'm saying that if it's an article about such a basic food ingredient then the nutritional table should also be about the most basic, raw, uncooked version. There are many ways to prepare such food and giving the nutritional values of only one of these isn't really informative. Values for cooked food should be avoided unless the article itself is about the cooked version.
- Nothing against the USDA, they seem to have data for raw adzuki beans, too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.143.40.221 (talk) 23:22, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

I have plenty of food and drink photographs how I can help?
Hi guys I am new here I can provide all the photographs we need for this project. Please guide me here, One way I know is to upload them on wikimedia is that okay? or I should upload somewhere else. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Govindduc (talk • contribs) 22:01, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
- Well done for wanting to get involved Govindduc! The best place for you to upload the images is indeed Wikimedia Commons, as the images are then available for use here and across all language versions of Wikipedia. The upload wizard (link here) is pretty self-explanatory. Tips I'd give are to make sure that there is enough detail in the file name and description, and to scout around to see what appropriate categories (e.g. start at Category:Food) the images should be filed in before you upload as it is a lot easier to add the category tags at upload (although it can be done later too). Feel free to drop me a message or reply here if you need any more help. Pyrope 09:40, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Franklin and Sons Soft Drinks company.
There wasnt a page for this company but I have created a stub page for it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_and_sons I am not up with editing wiki articles and I also dont have the time. I wanted to bring it to the attention of the wiki community though, so that someone with the time who more capable could create it and link it into the relevant areas of Wikipedia. World Heritage Cuisine Summit 2018 Edit-a-thon
Hello folks, my friends Satdeep Gill and Wikilover90 from Punjabi Wikimedians User Group are organising an online edit-a-thon in collaboration with World Heritage Cuisine Summit 2018. More than 40 Chefs from all around the world will be presenting their exotic and unique dishes at the historic Gobindgarh Fort in Amritsar, India, during 12–14 October 2018. The summit itself is an initiative of the World Cultural Culinary Heritage Committee of the World Association of Chefs Societies or WorldChefs. Join hands with us to take part in this campaign to create content about some dishes that are to be featured at this summit. These articles will be presented in the form of QR Codes at the summit. We will later be adding QR Codes to the dishes made by celebrity chefs from 40 countries. We've created a list of articles for focus. This list has several dishes which are yet to have articles on English Wikipedia, and also many them need significant expansion. You can pickup one article, and sign-up indicating that under the "English Wikipedia" section under the first section of the page. So we welcome the members of WikiProject Food and drink to help us with these articles, and make this a successful endeavour. This edit-a-thon runs from 1 October to 15 October 2018. Also do add yourself to the participants page. Thanks, KCVelaga (talk) 14:06, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

Article need improving: Coffee flour
Hi there! I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm doing this for a uni assignment. I've just recently submitted an article titled "Coffee flour" out of the "requested articles" list. Because English is not my first language, I desperately need help with the article. I'm asking for reviews here because the article is most closely related to this WikiProject. So, it would be great if someone can kindly review my article, perhaps check the style, grammar, and structure of it. Thanks so much! Evkgoh (talk) 23:06, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
HELP WANTED
For a number of years we have been experiencing a steady decline in the number of administrators as a result of attrition and a declining number of editors willing to consider adminship. Things have reached a point where we are starting to experience chronic backlogs in important areas of the project including noticeboards, requests for closure, SPI, CSD & etc. If you are an experienced editor with around two years (or more) of tenure, 10k edits give or take and no record of seriously disruptive behavior, please consider if you might be willing to help out the community by becoming an administrator. The community can only function as well as we all are willing to participate. If you are interested start by reading WP:MOP and WP:RFAADVICE. Then go to WP:ORCP and open a discussion. Over the next few days experienced editors will take a look at your record and let you know what they think your chances are of passing RfA (the three most terrifying letters on Wikipedia) as well as provide you with feedback on areas that might be of concern and how to prepare yourself. Lastly you can find a list of experienced editors who may be willing to nominate you here. Finally, I may not have this page on my watchlist, so if you want to reply to me directly please ping me. Thank you and happy editing... -Ad Orientem (talk) 21:42, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Question about the best way to get the right people's attention
Clodagh McKenna Google Google News Amazon is an Irish celebrity chef who doesn't have an entry in Wikipedia. Where is the best place to get good food/chef editors to take a look and make a judgment about whether we should have one? Obviously I could go to a general place like WP:AFC but I was thinking a more food-specific venue might be better?--Jimbo Wales (talk) 21:54, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Jimbo Wales: In general, high traffic pages work better. I only read this because I wanted to check if you had been active recently.
- Maybe ping some editors from Category:WikiProject Food and drink members? @Davey2010, Fransplace, AmericanAir88, Northamerica1000, and Peter K Burian: just some users from that category. - Alexis Jazz 22:19, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Jimbo Wales: I don't know if the following is the best place, but specific requests are sometimes placed at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Arts and entertainment § Food, drink, and nutrition. North America1000 22:29, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping, Personally I would say she may well be notable enough for an article but I've never created an article from scratch so I too would suggest the same venue as NA1k but ofcourse if anyone here did want to create one I obviously wouldn't have any objections to that. –Davey2010Talk 22:46, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Davey2010: you haven't? I'm surprised! Luckily, I have no shame to create stubs and let wiki magic do it's thing. What's also interesting is that this is first time I've encountered a subject that is notable, Wikipedia doesn't have an article about but Everipedia does. I didn't use any of it though.. no sources (or they don't work, their site is broken), but it might serve as inspiration.
- @Jimbo Wales: Clodagh McKenna. Also d:Q58325707 and some related items. Are you in the position to meet her IRL? If so, whip out your phone next time and take a picture. We don't have any yet and there is none to be found. - Alexis Jazz 10:43, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexis Jazz: Thanks for creating the new article. North America1000 10:33, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Margarine
Dear all,
On behalf of Upfield, I’ve been working on a suggestion for a well-sourced update for the margarine article. In general, I am making suggestions for the introduction, history, nutrition section and after a kind advice by User Spintendo also for the section manufacturing process as the content of the latter section in today's article is largely plagarized. I am suggesting these changes to include further information and update information in the light of recent developments and research.
You can see my proposed draft in my user space. I also created a commented version where I explain what suggestions I made and why. Please find this version here
I was mandated by Upfield as it is important for a margarine manufacturer that the highly frequented Wikipedia article about Margarine is well structured, sourced and includes the most up to date information. In addition, there was important historical information missing and other information wrong or too abbreviated – e.g. Hippolyte selling his patent to a Dutch company or why Napoleon was looking for an alternative to butter (see below). For Upfield it was also important that the article describes the developments of margarine from its invention until today sufficiently. As margarine is going through a continuous development regarding its nutrients while new studies and research as well as official governmental bodies advisements on the consumption of nutrients enhances, it is important that these developments are reflected and based on the most recent findings and advisements. Respective updates were therefore made in the suggestions.
As I do have a financial conflict of interest, since I'm making this suggestion on behalf of Upfield as part of my work as a private consultant, I suggested my ideas for the article on its talk page. I now understand that editors active in this portal might be the right persons to talk to in this matter.
Please note, that all my suggestions follow NPOV and do not additionally mention Upfield or their products (some products where mentioned in the article before)!
I would be delighted, if interested editors could review the suggestions and take live changes as appropriate. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can do anything else that helps you to better evaluate my suggestions.
I am looking forward to your feedback. Conandcon (talk) 18:40, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

HELP!
Will somebody other than me please tell Sampyche that 'chouriço' is indeed a word, and that to remove it they would need a RELIABLE source that actually says it isn't? They keep removing it, and citing as a 'source' some EU document about the production of sausage in Spain. Sumanuil (talk) 20:15, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
Stop harrasing me and lying, please. Nobody here are said that chouriço is not a word and i didn't modified the portuguese variant below. I just noted that chorizo is a product of spanish origin recogniced by the European Union. The portuguese name derives from the spanish one, similiar to galician, catalan, asturianu, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sampyche (talk • contribs) 22:53, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
I'm not lying. I just see no reason to remove it, especially when you cite a source that doesn't mention the names. That might be a good source for elsewhere on the page, but it doesn't justify your changes. Also, if my edits are going to be labeled 'harassment', 'vandalism', and 'lies', then I seriously wonder what constitutes a decent edit these days. Sumanuil (talk) 00:00, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

The article Food Balance Wheel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Only one source. Otherwise unsourced for the most part.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -SusanLesch (talk) 22:35, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

IP engaging in what looks like WP:PROMO at Blooming onion
This is not the world's most trafficked article, but it routinely sees edits from people who are sure that the local restaurant in their town is the true originator of the dish.
Right now it's getting a lot of edits from an a very persistent group of IP editors, (who, of course, ignore talk) so if a couple more people could watchlist it, that'd be great. Thanks. ApLundell (talk) 05:50, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

- Our article currently doesn't make any claims about who invented it.
- I'd be surprised if Outback was really the original creator.
- But there's a lot of restaurants that claim to have started it. They can't all be right, and they shouldn't be able to use Wikipedia as an endorsement unless they've got some good citations. ApLundell (talk) 18:27, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- @APLundell: You can put with a source that people have credited Copeland's of New Orleans with creating it. Copeland's has been around longer than Outback Steakhouse. Why does it have to be mentioned that Outback Steakhouse had a loaded blooming onion not Copeland's or Chili's? Chili's at one time had a blooming onion on the menu. Again, why isn't that mentioned? People who have edited the article shouldn't pick and choose what is added if they have a reference. The article could do with some expansion. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 07:05, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- The current persistent IP editor claims it was invented in upstate New York. So you see the problem.
- If some ambitious editor wanted to turn this article into a history of the dish and all the restaurants that served it pre-Outback and the conflicting claims of supposed inventors, that'd be great.
- I was just objecting to people showing up and edit-warring without source to credit their favorite restaurant (probably because they own the place). ApLundell (talk) 16:46, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Baskin-Robbins
Hello! My name is Emily and I'm the Senior Public Relations Coordinator for Dunkin' Brands, the parent company of Baskin-Robbins. As noted on my profile, I've made an account to work with Wikipedia's editing community by submitting Talk page requests to update the Dunkin' Brands, Baskin-Robbins, and Dunkin' Donuts articles. My first request for the Baskin-Robbins article was approved by two editors, but I've struggled to get feedback on my second request to update the History section, since detail on the company's history hasn't been updated since 2014. Could someone from WikiProject Food and drink take a look at my proposed text and update the article on my behalf? Thank you! EC at Dunkin' Brands (talk) 17:07, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

List of Michelin 3-star restaurants
Someone thinks that List of Michelin 3-star restaurants is a list of all former and present 3-starred restaurants and constantly restoring two Japanese restaurants that have recently lost their stars. New bot to remove completed infobox requests
Hello! I have recently created a bot to remove completed infobox requests and am sending this message to WikiProject Food and drink since the project currently has a backlogged infobox request category. Details about the task can be found at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/PearBOT 2, but in short it removes all infobox requests from articles with an infobox, once a week. To sign up, reply with {{ping|Trialpears}} and tell me if any special considerations are required for the Wikiproject. For example: if only a specific infobox should be detected, such as {{infobox journal}} for WikiProject Academic Journals; or if an irregularly named infobox such as {{starbox begin}} should be detected. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Parameter "creator" in Infobox "Food"
Hi all! I have a question regarding the parameter "creator" in the Infobox "Food". A novice editor has recently done mass edits by adding [[Indonesian cuisine|Indonesians]] as "creator" to numerous articles of Indonesian dishes, e.g. [5] (and also to dishes of disputed origin). My common sense understanding of the term "creator" here would be someone/something more specific, like a chef, a team of cooks, a restaurant, a food-producing company etc., but not a redundant Ricola-style entry ("Who invented it? - The Indonesians") when the country of origin is already specified in a different parameter. Before I do a mass revert, I just want to make sure that I am not to picky here. Is there a consensus about the content of the parameter "creator"? –Austronesier (talk) 16:46, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
- Please refer to Template:Infobox food. "Creator" in my general understanding refers to a specific individual or chef, for example, Gordon Ramsay. In the case of traditional cuisine with no solid evidence (if you can cite a reliable scholarly source) who first created the dish, just leave out the creator= parameter blank. -Jeblat (talk) 08:53, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Article assessment
- For anyone interested there are comments concerning the assessment of Juhayna (company) at Talk:Juhayna (company)#Article assessment, Otr500 (talk) 11:58, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
The food history article should be one of our marquee articles in Food and drink. Instead, it is rambling, incoherent, and poorly organized, lurching from one subject to another with a semi-random selection of topics at wildly different levels of detail. It does use a few good sources (Laudan, Mintz, Albala (cited as "Alba" here!)), but it often misrepresents them. And it generally doesn't give page references, making it impossible to check the source.
Looks like we should clean it out and start from scratch.... --Macrakis (talk) 19:37, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Food additives codes redirect to chemical compounds instead of E number article
There are quite a lot of food additive redirects around, for instance or E330 (citric acid) or E948 (oxygen). Right now, those I sampled redirect to the article for the chemical compound, where the use is not mentioned (in the case of oxygen for instance, it would be fairly hard to work into the lead).
In my opinion that violates the principle of least astonishment in redirects. A better idea would be to redirect every Exxx to the correct subsection in E number: for instance E948 would go to E_number#E900–E999_(glazing_agents,_gases_and_sweeteners). Do you agree/disagree? Online restaurant booking services
The category 'online food ordering' contains a number of restaurant booking services such as Bookatable which are not (AFAIK) used for ordering food. Deep pan pizza — a bit of a mess
There's an article titled Deep Pan Pizza on a defunct British restaurant chain, but you can't easily reach it by searching because of this redirection which instead throws you into a section in the article on Chicago pizza. On the talk page of that article (or, just to make it even messier, on the old talk page of that article before it was renamed), here, some people are apparently not happy about that, arguing that Chicago-style is a very specific pizza type, and neither 'deep pan pizza' nor 'deep dish pizza' in a generic sense shouldn't redirect to it, but both currently do. Meanwhile, generic pan pizza has its own (short) standalone article. To me this whole situation looks like a mess (and there may be even more to it, I haven't done any thorough searching) that needs to be sorted out, but I wasn't sure how. I reckon a disambiguation page for 'deep pan pizza' would be a good start, to replace the current redirect, with links to the British company and to 'pan pizza' and possibly also to 'Chicago-style pizza'. But whether the said articles should otherwise be merged, or linked with hatnotes or see-alsos, or whether there are other articles to consider as part of this, I don't know. Views? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:00, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
- @DoubleGrazing: The only "article" I found is the following.[6] I didn't find anything else on the chain. You can also find pictures of a couple of locations upon searching Google Images. I'm not good with getting images from third party sources. If by some chance you can find more on this defunct chain, that would be great for the article. As far as the different types deep pizzas, Pizza Hut has a deep pan pizza as we all know. If you compare a deep pan to a deep dish pizza, you'll see that the difference is obvious. Deep dish is a vastly thicker pizza. A Pizza Hut deep pan pizza is nowhere near as thick. A disambiguation page, if not already created, would be good to have. Date of establishment of Lower Queen Anne Store
A check should be made of the date of the establishment of Dick's at Lower Queen Anne. Having lived near the store in the 1970's (1976-1989), I recall it was a Burger King originally -- since I ate more than one Whopper there. That store then closed and was replaced by Dick's.
