This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Improving Melbourne suburb articles[edit]

Hi all, as many of you will be aware, there is little consistency between the format and content in articles on Suburbs in Melbourne. For example, compare the structure and content of Craigieburn, Victoria vs. Laverton North vs. Mornington, Victoria.

I would like to propose a discussion to develop a high-level template to guide the layout and format of these articles. I'd like to get stuck into updating and improving a lot of these articles but would like to discuss here first.

I don't propose this template to be prescriptive but instead act as a guide. I've had a bit of a look around other parts of Wikipedia but have not been able to find a comparable template or information.

To get started I've put together this sandbox-type template guide. It's mainly to do with structure but includes notes too. I have looked at many different suburb articles - both from Melbourne and elsewhere in Australia and overseas. Again, the idea is not to be prescriptive or require all of the subheadings/content in the guide, but rather to act as a starting point to help standardise things a little bit.

Here to start the discussion - happy to hear all thoughts and ideas! Thanks. Takerlamar (talk) 23:45, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
