Your template

[edit]

The template you're using at several pages concerning the history of Malaysia missed Sabah and Sarawak. __earth (Talk) 07:57, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are 2 templates in used, is it the historical states box or the History of Malaysia box? I only used the historical states box.

Federated Malay States

[edit]

Nice work on the Federated Malay States article. You have definitely put a lot of work into it.

The assessment department of the WPFC project is still very new, and so there is no real procedure in place for rating articles. Admittedly, many of the ratings that I have given are probably not that accurate. My main objective with the {{WPFC}} banner at the moment is to have it in place on as many pages as possible just to 1) keep track of all articles, and 2) attract new members.

The rating of the article can easily be brought up to B-class (which I have just done). For a higher rating, I think that requires group assessment - i'm not sure, still pretty new to this assessment stuff.

Keep an eye on the WPFC Assessment page while I try to get this section properly up and running. With enough people, we should be able to have an effective assessment department, which will include requests for assessment.

As for what work needs to be done now: maybe expanding the sections that only contain links to other articles, and put in some references. Once that has been done, you should nominate the page at Wikipedia:Good article candidates for elevation to GA-class.

Since you have the WPFC userbox on your user page, I took the liberty of signing you up on the project page - I hope you don't mind. And, since you are a member, please add the {{WPFC}} banner to any relevant pages that you find - and add a rating where there isn't one. See the template page for more information about the banner's features (image requests, etc.). Good luck, and welcome to the project. - 52 Pickup 09:40, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Former country infobox

[edit]

Just a quick note to let you know that more detailed instructions on using the Former Country infobox are now given here - 52 Pickup 17:58, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Former Subdivision

[edit]

This template has not been worked on for a while (we're too busy with the main one). It still needs a lot of work and many features will be seriously modified when I get the time. For example, the subdivision template does not yet have the auto-calculation of area in sq.mi. or calculation of population density.

The Subdivision infobox is a more generic version of the original infobox that I made for Prussian provinces. When I get the time, I'll convert all Prussian entries to this new template. One entry that I have already converted is the Province of Hesse-Nassau.

Let me know how you go with this template and I'll try get the template updated as soon as I can. Since I need to do some serious updating on this template to match the standard of the country template, all entries using the subdivision template will need to be modified at a later date. Good luck! - 52 Pickup 11:09, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New template for states of Malaysia

[edit]

Nice work. The new template is cleaner in many ways. However it provides unclear and misleading information on entry to the "federation". It should be 1963 if the federation you are referring to is Malaysia. If it was Malaya, it should be 1948. Nobody entered a federation in 1957. A federation that existed in 1957 was established in 1948 and that was Fed of Malaya. Independence doesn't change that fact. And I feel there's no need to say "Selangor Darul Ehsan" and then repeat the noun Selangor just below it. That's redundant. __earth (Talk) 12:31, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I've been working on page British Malaya for several months now and sadly, I haven't completed it. I'm starting to realize the project is a little too big for me. Since you're one of the few Malaysians active on history, I'm wondering if we could work together to further expand the page. Thanks. __earth (Talk) 09:04, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox flag borders

[edit]

The mess that comes out when using flags containing white in Infobox Former Country annoys me too. I have tried to implement borders, but I have been having a lot of problems with that so far - a lot of alignment problems come up whenever borders get involved. So this still needs a bit more work. But it will get done.

Also, I have just performed a major update on the infobox, so if you see anything unusual, please let me know. - 52 Pickup 14:39, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More infobox stuff

[edit]

Thanks for pointing out the weird behaviour of the colony line at Dutch Malacca. The way that the status bar works for colonies is that if certain entries for "empire" are chosen, special links are created (as is now the case for Portuguese Malacca), and ignores the status_text field. This is to provide a sort of uniformity. The problem with the Dutch one is that an accepted field is "Netherlands", but not "The Netherlands". That has now been corrected.

"colony" is only acceptable in the "status" field, not "government_type". This has been the topic of some discussion when working on the template. In the end it was concluded that a colony is not exactly a type of government, and should therefore have the same government_type as its ruling nation. The creation of the "representative" field was motivated by this problem: how to display the local leader, while at the same time making it clear who the supreme leader is (generally a monarch). I hope this answers your question. - 52 Pickup 16:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another point with regards to "colony" as a government type: If you say "status=colony" but leave "government_type" blank, that also works. This is probably the correct way to do it, but it has not yet been finalised - 52 Pickup 08:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

how to draw flags?

[edit]

Hey, how do you draw all the flags? __earth (Talk) 02:44, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

G'day. I hope you can spend a little time to take a look at the article and offer some comments on it.– Matthew A. Lockhart (talk) 10:22, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The first recorded official notification regarding the Sarawak flag was issued by the second rajah on the May 7, 1870...but contained the sentence 'black bunting to be used in the place of blue'." My source is Sarawak Long Ago by W.J. Chater 1969 (DBP reissue 1994). A witness for the first hoisting of the flag, Mrs McDougall, wrote of purple, but she was across the river from Brooke's residence, in her house. Thus, I believe that the controversy surrounding the colours should be mentioned. As for Professor Reece, I am well aware of his massive contributions to Sarawakian history. Do you know where I can find Masa Jepun, also by him? Next to impossible to locate in local bookstores.
By the way, I'm in the process of expanding Abdul Rahman Ya'kub. If you can provide help, it will be most useful. I'm thinking of two major points in the article, that is Operation Sri Aman and the Ming Court affair. Gine maok polah, udah artikel Sarawak sitok sik cukup bah. ;) – Matthew A. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Clickers.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Clickers.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:37, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rolling stocks

[edit]

Oh no, you're right. The shorter variation is a 2+2 after all (it doesn't suggest that the configuration is no longer in use though). I was under the impression that it was a 3-car version; even if a 3-car variation exists, I can't say I have seen it, so the error should be corrected and the Commons image will be renamed. Speaking of Wikimedia Commons, if you don't mind, may I interest you in a batch of images on the KL rapid transit lines, Komuter, and KL Monorail for you and your coleagues' digestion. I have a feeling it's not being put to full use. Thanks for letting me know. - Two hundred percent 17:51, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work with the transport map!

[edit]

All I can say is wow. Thanks for your effort! Just a few things to point out:

  • I think Sentul-Port Klang Line can be condensed as it is too far out of the city. I know in reality it goes way out of the city, but then, we need a map that can be as condensed as possible, so that people don't need to click on the image to see it, and even if it may be out of scale. Rawang-Seremban should be condensed too.
  • Hmm, Maybe for the Ipoh-Rasa-Rawang-Seremban can be separated out so that it can be shown separately in its own article rather than including it in the main map. However, you can make an arrow and label it "Future Rasa-Rawang Electrification"
  • What about interchanges? should we include them clearly? (indication of interchange like a circle or oval circle would be enough).
  • Just another one more thing. With Sungai Besi station (Star), why not align it away (to the east) from the main line of KLIA ekspres and KTM line. just like the one shown in the current image. It just confuse me as the cross over after Sungai Besi is a little bit weird. (It is better for any cross over to be an interchange station (ie in this case Bandar Tasik Selatan). That is the common practice in most transport maps).

Anyway, that's for now. let see how things goes.--Zack2007 13:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alamak, I missed your comments on the 13th of May. Apology for not replying back quickly. Hmm, I will get back with you when I can. OK? --Zack2007 14:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it could work out. But the map is rather huge, how can we fit with the article? yeh, the circle you made is a lil bit weird though. I prefer just the one white circle (opaque, not transparent). Sorry, I dont have firework..hehe, if I download it, it may take awhile for me to work it out. Have to rely on you. --Zack2007 15:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rail network map

[edit]

Since the Komuter lines in particular stretch beyond city limits, we need to reconsider the viability of including network maps of the same size for all related articles and templates (so simply using the same map with lines in different opacities is no longer recommended), and displaying rail lines in this image and its derivatives.

I only agree to the exemption of far reaching stations if they are not relevant to the actual topic of the article. Images such as Image:Paris Metro map.gif and Image:London Underground Zone 1.svg tend to leave out stations outside its boundaries to focus on core areas and specific lines. So, when explaining the Sri Petaling Line only, crop the network map to focus on the Sri Petaling Line; when explaining the entire KTM Komuter system, crop the network map to focus on the whole of both Komuter lines.

The full map will only be good if it's used to illustrate the span of Peninsular Malaysia's railway system (including outlying stations and lines from the north to the south at Singapore's Tanjong Pagar railway station). I would also prefer an additional network map, in a geographically accurate scale to be used for the rail transport in Malaysia article. - Two hundred percent 18:41, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kelana Jaya Line station code

[edit]

I write regarding the inclusion of the station code of a Kelana Jaya Line station. I'm having a bit of trouble verifying the codes because the Kelana Jaya Line article fails to cite a reliable source of the codes. Most of what I found using Google also consisted of websites that copies similar writings from the Wikipedia article. At least the Ampang Line stations have indicated on both the trains and stations designated station codes, verifying the code list in Ampang Line articles. Any idea where the Kelana Jaya Line codes come from? If they're not official codes, their notability of mention is questionable. - Two hundred percent 08:58, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:M'sian templates for deletion

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for noticing. I was beginning to think no other M'sian editor bothered (as if that wasn't surprising).

I tried to argue against a deletion, but proponents of {{Infobox Settlement}} are putting up a good argument for its use (it's not just limited for use in cities and towns, but also districts, countries and larger subnational entities), and the template only requires the addition of a few fields to render yours redundant. I've already voiced my views on what can be done, so I now wait for a response in {{Infobox Settlement}}'s talk page. But the way I see it, this will only delay deletion for only a while; inevitably, I can only foresee a migration to {{Infobox Settlement}}.

Perhaps you would like to provide some input to editors of {{Infobox Settlement}}, given your contribution to the M'sian templates. {{Infobox Settlement}} is fully protected from editing, so the only option is to engage on its talk page. It's under the "Merging properties from Subdivisions of Malaysia" section.

Thanks again. - Two hundred percent (talk) 14:37, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
