== Disruptive interface ==

Hello,

I edited [[User:EEng]]'s page because the navigation column is filled with images making the links inaccessible. Furthermore, on mobile devices (specifically iPhone 6), the column prevents me from tapping the talk, contribs, and uploads link. I edited it out but EEng undid my edit and asked me to consider requesting a self block for five years. [[WP:SMI]] states that disruption to the MW interface may be remedied by any user. The column disrupts the mobile site, vector, and monobook. I am not sure about the others. Any advice?

Not sure if InternetArchiveBot is doing the right thing

I'm not too technically savvy so I couldn't figure out what to do at the IABot Management Interface, but I've found a series of edits made by InternetArchiveBot that look wrong to me. For instance at this edit IABot marked this link dead and created a link to this archived version. The original link goes to a database where one can look things up about moths; for instance, pasting "Agastophanes" into the "taxon contains" field and clicking on the link gives good information that could be used as a reference, however that doesn't work at the archived link. The archived link seems to have the appearance of the database but not the data. If I'm understanding what's happening correctly, I think the archived links are not helpful and in replacing the good link actually unhelpful. Does that make sense? Thank you.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  23:09, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, there's a bug here somewhere.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 23:36, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly you've got a lot going on, but I'm restoring this from the archive as it is unresolved. When I search "Globiz.pyraloidea.org. Archived from the original" I get 6,751 hits and the number is growing. Would it be helpful for me to see if I can use AWB to go back and fix them, or is there another approach? Thanks,  SchreiberBike | ⌨  22:11, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, it's hard to keep track of bugs on my talk page. It's why I direct users to my tools to report bugs and fix issues. I should point out the original link looks just as blank as the archive.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:53, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The link goes to a searchable database. For example, pasting "Agastophanes" into the "taxon contains" field and clicking on the link will give good information. That doesn't happen on the archived version.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  22:17, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh right. Sorry. Like I said, hard to keep track of bugs on my talk page.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:22, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@SchreiberBike: It would seem I cannot replicate this in the newest version of IABot. So I'm calling this  Fixed.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 01:14, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So then would it make sense for me to go through the articles which say "Globiz.pyraloidea.org. Archived from the original" and change those so they only go to the original?  SchreiberBike | ⌨  01:46, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, just revert on those pages.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 01:47, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BBC Radio 3 download

Thanks for getting back to me about whether a BBC audio download is a dead-link or not. The url works for me, but on reflection I remember that the BBC has recently strongly encouraged users to register for access to its audio material. My computer will be automatically logged in to the BBC, whereas many other people wil not be registered. We probably need to say "subscription required" or something like that.--Thoughtfortheday (talk) 17:46, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If it was a subscription site, I would see the requirement of needing an account on the page. Instead I just get a 403 forbidden error. Just two lines. Nothing related to BBC. If you say it works, then let me do some further investigating.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:53, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Thoughtfortheday: Alright I know what's going on here. The error message, which I perceived to be some foreign message for Forbidden is blocking the bot because it's based in the US and not the UK. When I activated my VPN and changed my IP to a UK address, I was able to access the site. So it is indeed alive, and needs to be whitelisted.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:56, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

InternetArchiveBot at NL-wiki (again)

Hey,

I just want to inform you that I enabeled the bot again at nl-wiki since the last problems are solved. Natuur12 (talk) 17:07, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Natuur12: You might want to disable it again. It's fixed in the new version, but I haven't deployed it yet. I'm still hammering out the bugs that resulted from fixing the reported bugs as well implementing a new formatting handler.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:08, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Whoops. Done so. Natuur12 (talk) 17:09, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

InternatArchiveBot at NO:WP (again)

Hello again CyberPower678. An update from User talk:Cyberpower678/Archive 49#InternetArchiveBot on NO:WP, cause it looks like for me the fix created another problem in this type of edit at Rjukan stadion because it added the url-fragments up so it is twice in the same url and that doesn't look correct to me. Any idea of how to get it right this time ? Best regards and hoping for a better fix next time... Migrant (talk) 14:07, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's truly saddening that I just can't win here. :( I'll look into fixing it by the end of the day.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:20, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's the same issue as T170735. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 15:09, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is fixed in v1.4.2. This was a different bug caused by the enhanced string generator.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:47, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looking forward to a better bot in next version 1.4.2 :) Best regards Migrant (talk) 19:31, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, not completely sure about this one works either, see for instance this edit -> at NO:WPs Sandnes stadion Best regards Migrant (talk) 22:13, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Try redoing the edit by using this tool. I snuck in a patch after deploying 1.4.2, when I caught another bug related to that.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:34, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Make sure to revert the bot first.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:36, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

IABot error?

Hi Cyberpower. I noticed twice today when I ran IABot that it seemed to have made erroneous changes (See [1], [2]) changing the {{cite web}} template to "{{cite web|||||||}}". Not sure if these are the only examples of it happening, but this might present itself as really quite problematic if people don't notice. Can you take a look? Thanks in advance —72 talk 15:26, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

InternetArchiveBot seems to be doing this too ([3]) —72 talk 15:31, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is fixed in v1.4.2.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:40, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, much appreciated :) —72 talk 16:45, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
