An untitled Lego film is an upcoming animated comedy film produced by Lego System A/S, Rideback, Lord Miller Productions, and Vertigo Entertainment, and distributed by Universal Pictures. Based on the Lego line of construction toys and a collaboration between production houses from the United States, Australia, and Denmark, it is intended to be an installment in The Lego Movie franchise, and is the first Lego film not to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

In December 2019, after the box-office disappointment of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Universal was in talks to distribute and develop feature film properties based on the Lego toys, with Dan Lin expected to remain as producer, while Warner Bros. still owned the rights to their run of the franchise from 2014 to 2019. It was later set for a limited 5-year film deal with Universal in April 2020.

Development[edit]

In December 2019, following the box-office disappointment of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Universal Pictures entered early negotiations to distribute upcoming feature film properties based on the Lego toys. Although the original Lego Movie characters and films are still owned by Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal will develop and distribute future Lego films. Dan Lin was expected to remain as producer through his company Rideback.[1] By April 2020, the deal with Universal was set for a 5-year film deal, with Warner Bros. still owning the previous films.[2]
