BarbetBarbet (disambiguation) – I propose that the primary topic of Barbet is the family Capitonidae, which contains all species of birds known as barbets. This is effectively a WP:TWODABS situation, because all of the birds are in the same family, which describes them collectively. The one other meaning, a breed of dog, is comparatively minor. A Google search for "Barbet, bird" gets about four times as many returns as a search for "Barbet, dog", and a Google Books search gets close to twenty times as many hits for the bird. I would move the current disambiguation page to Barbet (disambiguation), and redirect this title to Capitonidae, with a hatnote indicating the dog breed. • Support move of the dab to (disambiguation) based on the books search given. Oppose redirect to the American barbet topic; the proposal on the page to turn it into a broad-concept stub would be more suitable, I think. -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:09, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The next higher level of classification is Piciformes, the order that includes all four kinds of barbets. I see no real reason to make this page into a separate article on the topic, when everything that needs to be said can fit neatly into that article. bd2412 T 04:09, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, are you saying redirect to Piciformes? That seems too broad (includes toucans), while Capitonidae seems too narrow (excludes 3 of the 4 families). -- JHunterJ (talk) 14:15, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
My thinking on this is that there really isn't much to say about barbets. Unlike toucans and woodpeckers, there's nothing that makes them stand out against the generic idea of a bird. Therefore, whatever needs to be said about them can probably fit into a section of Piciformes. I have no particular objection to a separate article on barbets, but despite the lengthy treatment of flashier families in the order, no one has yet seen fit to write an article on them. bd2412 T 15:52, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per JHJ. Since this wouldn't redirect to Piciformes, and redirecting to American barbet is overly exclusionary, the disambiguation page is best usage of the term "barbet", to cover all four birds, as well as the dog -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 05:25, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
