former alumnus[edit]

"Alumnus" means former student or former attendee or graduate of a particular institution. By saying former alumnus you are saying former former student. So, did you mean that he was once considered a former student but is no longer considered a former student? No. I think you meant to say "former student" or "alumnus" and combined the two. Unfortunately, this is a common error: at best this uasage is redundant, at worst it is illogical and confusing. I'm sure a Spellman English teacher would agree. :-)
