Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is under wrong category[edit]

1 Series

1.1 Original Super Mario Bros. games

1.2 Super Mario Land games

1.3 Super Mario World games

1.4 Open world games

1.5 New Super Mario Bros. games

1.6 Super Mario Galaxy games

1.7 Super Mario 3D Land and 3D World

1.8 Super Mario Maker games

1.9 Super Mario Run

I don't think "Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" belongs in "1.4 Open world games" category.

I think "Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury" should be under "1.7 Super Mario 3D Land and 3D World" category.

Honestly, it should be changed back to something more objective, like date of release, so we do t have these sorts of issues pop up. Sergecross73 msg me 18:23, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The section is mentioning BF, not SM3DW. I've added a couple of sources stating that BF is an open world game. BF now has its own article so I've also changed the link to reflect this. The nature of 64, Sunshine and Odyssey as more open world than all the SM games preceding them is already supported by sources. Ozdarka (talk) 08:01, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that was the reason I figured it was placed there, and don't deny that it's open world. I'm just saying the fact that they were released together makes this set up messy. Sergecross73 msg me 16:24, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think Super Mario 3D World+ Bowser's Fury' should be under 'Super Mario 3D Land and 3D World category, because Bowser's Fury is not 3D land or 3D World. 47.225.152.57 (talk) 18:17, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

super mario 4th best selling series[edit]

no it's actually the first whoever put that is wrong. 69.115.164.74 (talk) 11:05, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The overall Mario franchise is first. The "Super Mario" specific subseries is currently fifth on our lists. -- ferret (talk) 14:03, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As of April 2024, the Super Mario series has a total of 430 million copies, which according to the article List of best-selling video game franchises, would make it currently the fourth best selling series. Finding more recent figures for Call of Duty might change it, but the article as of right now shows the Super Mario franchise as being the 4th best selling. HaywardHHayward (talk) 20:41, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, not April 2024, but August 2023, but as of April 2024 the List of best-selling video game franchises shows Super Mario ahead of COD. HaywardHHayward (talk) 20:42, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In the opening infobox on the page, please change the link for Mario & Luigi to Mario & Luigi, as the subseries has its own page. 24.15.214.201 (talk) 23:35, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In the development section, in the release timeline section in 2018, which is empty, the game Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is made. Please add it 46.51.77.0 (talk) 08:54, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. M.Bitton (talk) 14:34, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Additional games[edit]

The following games are more spinoffs/remakes that kind of shouldn't belong here. These are:

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Super Mario Maker

Super Mario Maker 2

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

The Super Mario Maker games are spinoffs of the Super Mario series and are different from the original Super Mario games. Same with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a remake/port of Super Mario 3D World with new content that feels like DLC than a whole new game. This is my first time editing a talk page, so I am not used to this...

Lou1112 (talk) 01:56, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your talk page usage is fine, but there's nothing wrong with mentioning spin-offs at a series article. Sergecross73 msg me 02:06, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

These games are not really part of the main Super Mario series as a whole. The first three are just spin-offs, while SM3DW+BF is a remake. They feel like they should be mentioned, but not fully shown on the timeline, and also isn't this article about the main Super Mario series and not nesessarilly part of the Mario franchise as a whole. Lou1112 (talk) 02:16, 24 August 2023 (UTC) Oh yeah, and here's some proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XejJ6PzPtEw — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lou1112 (talkcontribs) 02:21, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Super Mario 64 DS vs Bowser's Fury[edit]

Bowser's Fury has a new 3D environment, more playable characters than the original game, new abilities, its own story, new collectibles, a new method of analog movement, and was covered extensively in the media. The thing is, Super Mario 64 DS also has all of these. These aren't entirely original titles, but it might be necessary to consider them as on a secondary tier in terms of additions to the series. I have unbolded them on timeline to indicate that there is some new content but that they are not entirely new games.Swordofneutrality (talk) 08:23, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bowsers Fury is selected from a separate menu when you start the game, is completely self-contained, and plays entirely differently. None of that is the case with the content tacked on to 64 DS. Sergecross73 msg me 10:46, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What constitutes as a "Super Mario" game?[edit]

So while I can agree with most of the games included, I would like to call out some games included I don't quite agree with.

Super Mario World 2 does not seem like it should be a Super Mario game because although it shares the same name, it is not a standard Mario platformer. You aren't even playing as Mario. The game fits better in the Yoshi series.

Super Mario Maker (2015) is simply a level editor and does not have a story mode. While its sequel does have a main campaign, both games are level editiors at their core. Their Wikipedia articles do not even list them as Super Mario games.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a rerelease and while it may contain a new game within, it is only half a game and the other half is already on the list.

That is all. 2601:243:C980:4700:250A:4769:F482:6620 (talk) 17:27, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Check through the talk page archives to see previous discussions on it. It's not complicated, usually simple stuff like "Does it have the words Super Mario in the title?" Or "Do reliable sources call it part of the Super Mario series?" Sergecross73 msg me 17:33, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

weird spin off listing[edit]

it says that wario, yoshi, and wario are spin offs, when i think it should be said as warioland, warioware, yoshi's island, and luigi's mansion 184.67.114.70 (talk) 17:03, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

wrong luigi info[edit]

it says luigi is only playable in the special worlds, when im pretty sure you can play as luigi anytime and the restricted character is rosalina, but i might be wrong i haven't played the game 184.67.114.70 (talk) 17:05, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What game are you referring to here? You didn't mention a title... Sergecross73 msg me 18:03, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
