The Uganda Junior Staff College, is a staff college in Uganda, East Africa. Typically, graduates are commanders in the Uganda People's Defence Force. Other African countries also send their cadets to the college for training.[2]

Location

The junior staff college is located in Qaddafi Barracks, in the city of Jinja, approximately 87 kilometres (54 mi), by road, east of Kampala, Uganda's capital city.[3] The coordinates of the college are:00 27 00N, 33 12 18E (Latitude:0.4500; Longitude:33.2050).

History

The creation of the Uganda Junior Staff College was first announced by the Chief of Defense Forces, Aronda Nyakairima, in February 2006.[4] In May 2006, the college graduated its pioneer class of 39 military officers.[5] Uganda Junior Staff College was officially commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the Commander in Chief of the Uganda People's Defense Force.[6]

Mission

The college aims to train middle military commanders in various areas of expertise to acquire skills that are needed to lead others in battle and in peace-keeping missions. Subjects include International Humanitarian Law, French, Basic Military Intelligence and the Pre-Senior Command and Staff Course, for those destined for higher command responsibilities.[7]
