Social science is a branch of science devoted to the study of societies and the relationships among individuals within those societies. The term was formerly used to refer to the field of sociology, the original "science of society," established in the 19th century. In addition to society, it now encompasses a wide array of academic disciplines, including anthropology, archaeology, human geography, management science, and history. Included below are:

  • Basic overview articles and outlines related to social science in general.
  • Communication – the activity of exchanging information and expressing ideas in speech, writing, signs, etc., including the transmission of information via technology.
  • Ethnology – the science dealing with the division of mankind into races and their origin, distribution, relations, and characteristics.
  • Sociology – the science of society, social institutions, and social relationships, including the systematic study of the development, structure, interaction, and collective behavior of organized groups of human beings.

Many sub-disciplines within the social sciences have their own sublists, namely: business studies and economics, education, linguistics, law, media studies, political science, and psychology, as do related topics such as culture, war and military.

This user-made vital articles sublist includes 510 subjects related to social sciences topics which do not specifically pertain to any other sublist for which I personally believe the English Wikipedia should have corresponding articles. Articles are labeled based on their quality as outlined below.
