Small airline articles[edit]

It may be better to create a list of small airlines of Russia with a paragraph on each, as they will mostly fail notability guidelines and be nominated for deletion. This is better for Wikipedia, as it wouldn't get cluttered with lots of small articles of limited value.Petebutt (talk) 00:53, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Brilliant idea, so a column on airline name and founding date etc. (general info), a column saying what they do and a column on their fleet, and maybe a column with a photo of one of their aircraft. Think that would work? I did all those articles as many of those airlines have hardly any information and all of it's scattered round the internet in different languages so I think it's good to finally bring all the information together. Alexzarach (talk) 01:03, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good, maybe in table format; see Help:Table and/or Template:TablePetebutt (talk) 02:27, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a great idea. Let me know if you need help with the tables. ~Adjwilley (talk) 22:03, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will try to get something done before the 18th as I'm off to Minsk and Israel for two weeks after that. I should be fine with the table but if I have any problems I might well take you up on your offer. Small airlines - what would you classify as 'small'? I'm thinking those aerial service airlines with a couple of An-2 aircraft or helicopters. Should I do another list List of Helicopter Airlines of Russia? There are tons of them and yet many could hardly be called small. Alexzarach (talk) 23:05, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just deleted two of the articles you marked for deletion, but wouldn't it make more sense to redirect them to the new article instead? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 18:29, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for starting to delete them, I would have done it myself had I been allowed to! I don't want to keep the pages as redirects just because the Wikipedia fascists would get quite cross at so many redirects linking to one list; I don't want to risk it. I think I will leave it to your discretion if you want to redirect them to List of small airlines and helicopter airlines of Russia or notAlexzarach (talk) 18:40, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I personally haven't really ran in to any fascists here, but I very much doubt that anyone would object to redirects. Could you tell me the location of the list? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 19:19, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've run into them, they're not interested on your point of view or any reasoning behind your articles! The list is List of small airlines and helicopter airlines of Russia, [1]. Thank you very much, any you'd like me to do? Alexzarach (talk) 19:25, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I got all off them. If I left any, feel free to do those yourself. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 19:54, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, just letting you know that this list you created today is being discussed at the WikiProject Airlines talk page. You are welcome to participate, and your comments would be much appreciated. Thanks, Compdude123 20:48, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see you took my suggestion literally. I was unaware at the time that there were existing lists. A merge would probably be a good idea.Petebutt (talk) 05:15, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The thing is the main list exists but is a different kind of table, it doesn't have a column with descriptions of the airlines because each has its own page. These small airlines wouldn't warrant their own page (at least that's the view generally forced down my throat) which is why I went with the idea of having a small airline list. Then there was the issue of the 'VIP airlines' (private jet charter, but that phrase seems to be unique to Russia) which did not really fit into the main list so I made another list for them. Took over a week to research and page a page on each small airline to stop there being so many red links on the 'list of airlines of Russia' page, spent a whole day yesterday doing the separate lists. I know there is too much text in the new lists - can't remove the description column in the small airlines list as none of them have their own page anymore. The VIP list has some airlines without their own page (as some only procure planes from other airlines so apparently don't deserve a page of their own) so the description column is needed for those airlines. It just seems people suggest one thing without doing research, I spend several hours following a suggestion through, then I get people grumbling about it on another talk page (at least I was invited to dicsuss after a while) Alexzarach (talk) 11:11, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Such is the way of wikipedia. The way forward is a list o or lists of some kind. with NOTABLE airlines having separate articles. Good effort though even if a little misguided.Petebutt (talk) 14:01, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The thing is the airlines have fleets, incidents etc. (the less notable ones) - how can those be incorporated into lists? With so many different people with so many different yet strong views I understand - that is the way of Wikipedia (harsh judgement and a guilty-unless-proven-innocent view). I will be abroad from the 18th for two weeks but I can spend chunks of my holiday sorting this out if people can actually come to a decision on what to do with all those airlines (while retaining the descriptions, fleets and incidents because those are of encyclopaedic value) Alexzarach (talk) 14:05, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Vzlet has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable company. Defunct as of 2014.[2] The two article contains two refs: The first ref is an indiscriminate directory listing. The second ref is a deadlink - Waybackmachine shows it was a holding company, clearly not an independent RS. Russian Wikipedia has no article for this company. A significant Google source search (including in Russian), turned up only indiscriminate directory listings, user-generated posts, and similar unusable sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
