Speedy delete of the V*Enna article

I noticed your removal of the backlink from the Essential Records (Christian) article. All of the other listed artists signed to the label past or present are all major artists in the Contemporary Christian music industry. Would you please restore the deleted article to my second sandbox User:Royalbroil/Sandbox2 so I may fix whatever was wrong with the article? Thanks for restoring the article. I looked over the article plus did web searching, and I'm not convinced that they should have an article. They released one album on a major label before they broke up and all left the music industry. They probably participated on national to international tours, but I'm not going to look for any. I was anticipating finding much more notability. Just because I'm not going to pursuit this article doesn't mean that a case could be made on this article, so I disagree that it should have be speedy deleted. I did find a reference stating that they had a Top 10 hit on the music charts. User:Rachael Lampa Fan is one of a small number of active Wikipedians who really understands Contemporary Christian music. I don't think that creating this page was at all disruptive. It was a good faith attempt. I think your only warning for this creating this article was very far too severe and I hope that you retract it. User:Rachael Lampa fan's main problem is that he/she still hasn't figured out about writing in NPOV.

Out of curiosity, what are you merging it with? Earlier, I thought this was legit results from Canada's Next Top Model, in which case merging it with that might make sense... but now I am beginning to doubt that, since a Google for the name of the alleged winner turns up zero hits... I was actually looking at Google to see if I could merge it into Canada's Next Top Model somewhere, or if someone had mistakenly titled it CNTM when it was supposed to be for America's Next Top Model. I found the same thing as you, though, and am skeptical as well. Unfortunately it doesn't qualify for speedy, so I left the PROD up. Guess we'll find out in 5 days! I agree it's not quite a speedy, as I mentioned in my prod (it "almost" meets A1, but not quite -- and incidentally, it also "almost" meets A4, but it was previously deleted via prod rather than AfD). No problem. I assume you're referring to the Series 6 Episode 3 (Spooks) that you nominated for speedy deletion? If that's the case, the reason I declined it is because the speedy deletion criteria are pretty strict. While the article did lack context, it was not short, as criteria A1 specifies it must be. On a sidenote, I had already declined an A1 speedy for the same reason. That article is actually describing the plot of an episode of a show called Spooks; many of the other episodes have articles as well, but they're better written, which is why I tagged it with those maintenance tags, in particular the {{in-universe}} one. Don't beat yourself up about it, though...content written like that can be really hard to identify sometimes. If you have any other questions, just leave another message here! Keep up the good work! Speedy deletion of Pickle Bomb

Can you please explain why Pickle Bomb was deleted. At Wake Forest, it is one of the most popular drinks. It is increasing in popularity to where other North Carolina schools such as UNC and Duke are also drinking it. Sure, no problem. Pickle Bomb was deleted because the article made no assertion of why the drink is notable. You have to cite independent external sources in order to prove that the subject of any article is notable. If you can provide such sources, please recreate the article. Also, please note that Wikipedia is not a manual so if the article reads like an instruction guide, it will most likely be nominated again for deletion. Removing notability tags

Please don't remove the notability tag from articles unless the issue has been addressed. You removed it from Split Needles, yet there was no sources whatsoever to establish notability. You can't just say something is. Yes, I know all about The Shins and they are a very notable band, however, that doesn't make all their songs notable. While I fully agree that Wikipedia doesn't need an article on this subject, you speedily deleted the following content as "patent nonsense":

"Sting-Pong is a game with many variations. Some play the game as a form of bombardment or team dodge-ball. Others put variations on the more traditional game of ping-pong and call it sting-pong."

To establish the notability of the subject, you must provide multiple independent, reliable sources. These sources are also required to fulfill Wikipedia's verifiability policy. The best way to do this is to add links to reliable journalistic articles, such as from a news outlet or magazine, to the article. Let me know if you have any more questions. Looks great! You know, whenever you fix something in an article that has a template at the top, you can remove the corresponding template. I'd say the article looks pretty cleaned up and that notability has been established from the sources, so you can remove the two templates at the top of that article whenever you want. Maybe I got things wrong, but in all the entries I made using Arnneisp1, I made sure there was no advertising or promotion. To make sure, I took one similar product or company profile from Wikipedia and used the same exact format to provide the information and facts.

If you'll let me know which one of my entries you relate to as advertisement, so I can tell you which other wikipedia approved page I used as a format. I'll also appreciate your recommendation on the particular content - what should be removed as it is advertisement and what is to stay as fact.

entry for Gladiator, Inc.

I'm curious why you so swiftly deleted the article I was working on for Gladiator, Inc. You claimed it was a "blatant advertisement" but exactly in what way was the article slanted? All the info included was objective and informative-- sloppy perhaps, but you deleted it as I was building the skeleton of the article, before I could even add the "meat"... I didn't have enough citations on the article because I had all the hyperlinks to news stories/etc on my computer at home, I only put the links I could remember off the top of my head at the time.

An entry for Gladiator, Inc. is relevant because they have current government subcontracts with BlackwaterUSA. They also are one of the only female-owned and operated military contract companies in the country, and they are one of the few producers of PPE that have contracts with Iraq, Dubai/UAE, the Saudi Arabian Royal Family, and the Afghan military.

Please reinstate my article and in the future, if a new article is in the process of being built, give at least 24-48 hours for the user to update the information before you make a hasty judgment about it.

new deletion threat

Now someone else is threatening to delete the article because he/she thinks that the person isn't notable enough to warrant inclusion because he/she was a criminal. Would you mind joining the discussion? The person I've been working with has been working 8 hours on this topic, and I'd hate to just simply delete the article because someone's not considered notable enough (Being part of a major organization involved in "terrorist" activities on U.S. soil on which the FBI and a number of other organizations have huge files isn't considered worthy?) It looks like everything will be alright. I think everyone is agreeing that she is notable enough to deserve mention and some details in the encyclopedia. I can't say that I'm 100% convinced she's notable enough for a dedicated article, though. Personally, I like Dhartung's idea to cleanup the article and merge it into List of Weatherman members. That way, there would be a central article to provide details on all of the organization's members, which seems to be about the only thing that makes her notable. What do you think about doing that? Peter Gurnz

I am fairly new to writing articles for Wikipedia, I've written only one before. It was approved with no problem, so I am not used to this deletion thing. I don't understand where I went wrong. I am very interested in BOXeight, because of the views they abide by, and the goals they have. I amended the current Los Angeles Fashion Week article to include the changes that occurred this year with BOXeight Fashion Week. Those changes were accepted, and changed a little bit, but still accepted. In those changes I mentioned the founder of BOXeight, Peter Gurnz. When I went to write a bio for him before I went to make the wiki page for BOXeight, it was deleted. I don't know what made it blatent advertising, because the other article was approved and accepted. I made an article for a person who was involved with the first article amended because I found his bio easier than the other people mentioned in the history. I was planning on making a page for Dean and Davis Factor, and Smashbox, all people and companies included in the Los Angeles Fashion Week article. I thought that I would start using Wikipedia to flex my creative muscle, but since I'd rather spend time writing than arguing about the material I am writing about, I think I should go elsewhere. If you can tell me where I went wrong in the rendering of Peter Gurnz's biography, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I've recently dipped in to new page patrol, and I see you removed/declined the speedy, changed it to prod, and mentioned that notability was asserted with references to back it up. Oh, actually I missed something. I meant to type "but with no references to back it up", so the PROD would have been explained. The fact that the article says that Long is a "recognized" researcher is an assertion of notability, so it doesn't qualify under A7, which means PROD or AFD need to be used to determine if he really is notable. Aah! friendlywelcome.js turned into monobook.js!

Ioeth, I think you made a "boo-boo" about half an hour ago. I noticed that all of a sudden, a bunch of extra tabs, scripts, and options were showing up in my account, and lots of the Friendly stuff was broken. After investigating, I found this edit you made to friendlywelcome.js, effectively turning it into your monobook. It explains why the new pages box and UTC clock appeared in my account, and why none of Friendly's welcoming features are working anymore. Not being an admin, I can't undo it, but it's undoubtedly affecting all users who use Friendly's welcoming module. Friendly gives you a tab (similar to "edit this page" or "discussion") at the top of a user's talk page that says "welcome". When you click on it, it lets you select a welcome template from a list and automatically saves it to the user's talk page. It makes it very very easy to welcome a new user with just 2 clicks of the mouse. The "tag" tab appears when you're looking at an article, and it lets you apply templates such as {{cleanup}}, {{unreferenced}}, {{wikify}}, and a host of others to tag the article for maintenance. No problem. Speedy deletion criteria A7 says that articles have to assert the notability of their subjects. Providing external links or references does not do this; explaining why Kas Product is important does (which the article did not do). The article that you created did not assert the notability of the high school debate team, which is a criteria for speedy deletion. No, there's no time limit or anything like that. There are some basic criteria called the criteria for speedy deletion that a page must pass to not be eligible for immediate deletion, though. The article that you created fell under one of those criteria, so it was deleted. If you're going to take some time to create an article, consider creating it as a subpage of your user page, for example at User:Cyr S./Knowledge Sharing Behaviour. If you click that link and start the article there, you won't have to worry about it being deleted. Once you're done with the article, you can click the "move" tab at the top and move it to "Knowledge Sharing Behaviour", which puts it in the main article space. A lot of users do this to give themselves plenty of time to edit their new article before putting it into the encyclopedia. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! Actually, this IP has quite an extensive history of previous blocks. See this for the list. I count 10 blocks previous to mine since October 2005 with the longest at 7 months. Wikipedia receives vandalism consistently from this IP address, so I chose 6 months since it covers more-or-less until the end of the school year. That's not too outlandish, is it? I don't see why not. The 6 month block I set up is a soft block, so only anonymous edits are blocked from being made. Account creation is still enabled, so new user accounts can be created, and anyone with a registered account will not be affected by the block. Given the pattern of anonymous vandalism coming from this IP address, I think that it is reasonable to use a soft block here. No, you shouldn't need anything else to get the "prod" tab in there. It does only appear when you're in the article space, though. Can you add the text #p-cactions { min-width: 855px; } to your user CSS, Ctrl+F5, and see if the tab doesn't show up, if it hasn't already? By default, the tab bar isn't fully the width of the browser window, and that CSS rule makes it so it takes up all the room it has available (at 1024x768). If you have a higher or lower screen resolution, the 855px part will have to change. Let me know if you have a different res; I'll try to come up with a number for you. Do not delete the pages of a Wikipedian in training. How can I learn to write a credible Wikipedia page if I only have a few attempts to write one before being threatened to block my account? I'm confused

It seems from this you've given 24.60.218.3 an indefinite username block. I'm missing something here - how can an anon have a username block? The block is for 48 hours though, not indefinite.

Also I'm confused about the AIV entry for this IP. The report claimed they'd vandalised Elmo. I can't see any edits from this IP since 27 November, none before that to Elmo (which has been semiprotected since 27th Nov anyway).

I'd undo things, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something fundamental here!

I've never had much success in using ParserFunctions, but it caused (at least many) usages to display

Thanks! I think this might have been related to the Wikipedia software glitch that happened a few minutes ago. The thread right above this one was related to it as well. I've moved the entire template into my user space for testing, and used the template from the article and see no problems anymore. I'm going to revert the articleissues template to put my changes back in, as now that the Wikipedia software is fixed, it seems that the template is too. Unlawful shutdown of Gert page

Ioeth, i believe you made a mistake in the deletion of the page "Gert Caldwell". This is not a real person, therefore, I believe in no way can it be a personal attack. Gert is merely a character made by students at the College of the Rockies campus to explain food that has been stolen from the cafeteria. It is in no way offensive to anyone and should not be deleted by Wikepedia. please send me a message if you still need more information. Details about barnstars can be found at WP:BARN. 'Missing Barnstar's or 'Secret Page' barnstars are usually ones that random users give out for signing their secret page. I'm not certain, but a guestbook would probably go against WP:Userpage. Take a look at User:Chris G Bot 3 for info on the online/offline status box. I'm new to wikipedia and tried creating my first article according to the Wikipedia:Your first article guidelines but still yet the page was still deleted. My RfA

To be perfectly frank... I'm not sure how I feel about it now that I see the arbitrary nature of the opposition.
Is there any reason for this otherwise arbitrary edit limit of 1000? What does that signify? Why 1000? Why not 1164? I've been a programmer for over 15 years and I've been working with computers for over 30. I was a BBS admin back when there were BBS's. To be dismissed out of hand over an arbitrary edit limit, which is in no wise indicative of my experience in WikiPolicy, seems rather short-sighted. No interrogation, no discussion... Every one of the posts said almost the same as yours, "No problems, think he'd be great but he doesn't have 1000 edits". What if I go into an article and simply post and repost spaces until I gain the requisite number of edits? Or I make 1000 uncited changes? How does that suggest my familiarity with Wikipedia or a level of trust sufficient for admin-ship? Understand, it's not the denial (heck, it's not like it would change my lifestyle or anything), it's being denied out-of-hand for arbitrary level of edits that annoys me. How am I supposed to respect a decision based solely on the number of edits I've performed?

People pay attention to the edit count on RFAs because a low one is typically a good indicator of the user's familiarity with Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Administrators need to deal with situations that require broad knowledge of operational procedures on a daily basis, and an edit count of less than 1000 indicates that a user probably doesn't have enough of this knowledge to be an effective administrator. There's no official limit or anything like that, but having a much higher edit count gives you time to demonstrate your knowledge of policy. Your contributions are a good indicator of this knowledge, contrary to what you may think. Supporters look for specific things in your contributions, such as vandal fighting, new page patrolling, participation in AFDs, and other. Your contributions show excellent content additions, but little of them reflects the administrative side of Wikipedia, which admins are responsible for. Mainspace Edits?

Hi,

I am sorry for asking you so many questions... but what is a Mainspace Edit, and what edits are classed as mainspace edits. Is tagging for deletion using Twinkle or tagging using Friendly classed as a Mainspace edit?

Empire Beauty School

Hi Loeth,

I am having some serious issues with fixing one of the Wikipedia Pages. Empire Beauty School (for some reason I can't add a wikipage for them) purchased ALL the schools mentioned in the Wiki Post for Regis_Corporation ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regis_Corporation )

I cannot fix the article because linking to an Empire Beauty School post is impossible, since it says that the Empire Beauty School is spam, but the Regis one is legit? It's a problem that I cannot fix without adding a Wikipedia page for Empire Beauty School

It's painfully incomplete... and I plan on finishing it today, as long as you guys agree not to just delete all my efforts.. as I clearly argued the article regarding the schools are already in Wikipedia, the problem is that the article is inaccurate as Regis does not own the schools anymore, Empire does. "Patrolling" pages

I've been reviewing the new pages and I've seen the link at the bottom (sometimes) "Mark this page as patrolled". I have a couple of questions:

1. What does that mean?
2. What does that do?
3. How do I find my patrolled pages? (yeah, I clicked it to see what would happen and I can't find those particular pages to save my life).

Recent Deletion of Jeremy Earl

I recently added my a wiki for my bio as a cast member of the movie "Forever Strong" which is found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forever_Strong

I simply clicked on my name from that Forever Strong page and began writing my bio, at:

Upon logging in today to update the page with more information, i found it deleted. What do i have to go about doing to get that page back without having to retype it? And why was it deleted? I did read through the explanation pages, but don't understand how the page fit those criteria.

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! I left a message on your talk page that will inform you about autobiographical additions to Wikipedia which I think you should look over first. It mentions "notability", which is something that all article subjects must have in order to be included. Frankly, just being cast in a movie, especially one that isn't out yet, does not meet the notability guideline, which is why I deleted the article. Once the movie is out and reviewed, especially if the reviews mention you in particular, that will be the appropriate time for an article about you to be added. However, it is still recommended that you not add it, as it is a conflict of interest. By that time, if you are getting that much media attention, though, someone else will add it. Anarchism in Cuba

I'm really curious as to why something I wrote in my sandbox needs to be "moved" instead of cut and pasted. The page history should be irrelevant, as if I'd written it in Word or something. I don't know how much it matters, but Anarchism in Cuba now has the history of my sandbox, which goes back a lot farther than that article. If it's absolutely necessary, we could put a request into oversight to have the changes that were made to your Sandbox when it was just your Sandbox hidden, but they usually only do that for changes that violate WP:BLP. I'm not too worried about it, but if you'd like the changes hidden, just let me know and I'll try and get it sorted out. Unfortunately, once a history merge has been done, there is little chance of being able to undo it. So sorry again for the trouble, and be sure to let me know what you'd like me to do, if anything. XMission Deletion

Can I ask what was "blatant" about the advertising on the now deleted XMission page? I believe it referenced the historical context of Utah's first ISP and wasn't an ad for selling services. The fact that the page wasn't written or edited by me or XMission staff supports this. I'd like to resolve this with you directly, but if it can't be done, I will request a review on your speedy deletion.Pete Ashdown (talk) 07:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

The page was edited by you, Pete Ashdown, who the article claims was the founder of XMission, in November 2005 (at the least), so saying that "the page wasn't written or edited by me or XMission staff" isn't exactly true. Advertising doesn't necessarily have to be written or edited by representatives of the company anyway; sentences that have a promotional tone, such as "XMission established itself from the beginning as a computer savvy ISP" do not conform to Wikipeida's neutral point of view policy and in this circumstance, appear to be promotional. Additionally, the article has no references whatsoever, which means that it does not conform to Wikipedia's verifiability policy either, and only provided a single external link to XMission's homepage.

In the meantime, I have restored the article to User:Pashdown/XMission for you to view or work on. Before you do, though, please read Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline, since you have a relationship with the subject of the article. It will be very important to add multiple reliable, independent sources to the article so that you can back up the claims made in it and prove that XMission is notable. These can be magazine or newspaper articles or reputable online sources (i.e. major news sites). I will be happy to help, as well, and if you can provide some sources for me I'll do my best to improve the article as well. Let me know if you have any questions. The minor edits I made in 2005 were spelling, changing the reference to my sister from "wife", and adding a link to the home page. Do you think that they detracted from the copy written by others in an advertorial sense? Was there an excessive conflict in correcting the fact that I'm not married to my sister? You're asking me to fix your stated problems with the page while I am bound by conflict of interest. If you look at the discussion on the Wikipedia page about me, you will find that I have always tried to be very careful about COI. If you had problems with the neutrality of the page, why the rapid deletion rather than an edit? As I understand rapid deletion, it's reserved for spam pages. Why do you think that the page existed for over two years if it was spam? Why not a vote for deletion?
