Aishwarya Rai

Hey Jim, I just got your message. Whatever I changed in the article of Aishwarya Rai, I did with a reason that I gave too. And I didn't removed the reference, I just placed it in a better place. If you have any problem with me then message me, I'll clearly understand it. And I am not use of getting blackmail. So, never tried to blackmail me with the messages that you'll "Block" me. Thank you. Many Words (talk) 09:02, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

@Many Words: You removed the reference here with an edit summary of Improvised; the reference doesn't look nice in the info-box... That does not justify the removal. I would recommend that you state that you are moving a reference, not what you did. Yes, you replaced it, but I had reverted and warned you before you replaced it. It appears that the warning level is too high for some reason. You got a "final warning" where it should have been an initial warning. My apology on this. BTW: it's not "blackmail", it is an administrative warning. An wp:administrator would make the decision whether or not to block you. I am not an administrator. Jim1138 (talk) 09:10, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Jim, I use wikipedia on mobile, and I recieved you msg after I had replaced it. I am sorry If I caused problem to you. And I didn't understand about this "You got a "final warning" where it should have been an initial warning" Many Words (talk) 09:33, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

@Many Words: You received this template: {{uw-delete4}} where you should have gotten a {{uw-delete1}}. Not a problem. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:37, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Windows 10... I tried first to reject the IP's pending revisions. But in the "pending revisions" dialog I was not offered a "reject" button, only "accept". Any idea why that might be? Jeh (talk) 07:04, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

George Steiner

Hi Jim,1138

I received your message from a couple days ago regarding my removal of some content from the George Steiner page and I wanted to offer my reasons for having done so, which still stand.

I don’t typically edit Wikipedia pages but I took it upon myself to remove a portion of the introduction to the page on George Steiner because I thought it was very poorly and awkwardly put together. Specifically I removed from the introduction the sentence which read “An article in The Guardian described Steiner as a "polyglot and polymath", saying that he is either "often credited with recasting the role of the critic", or a "pretentious namedropper" whose "range comes at the price of inaccuracy" and "complacency".[6]” I thought that the entire subsequent paragraph was similarly inappropriate and ought to be removed but I refrained from doing so.

The introduction sections of longer Wikipedia pages should aim for simple, easily understood statements of fact. In contrast, almost half of the introduction of George Steiner page consists of editorial quotes and opinions of Steiner’s merit as an academic or critic from various other figures who aren’t centrally relevant to Steiner’s writing or his life. The featured quotations are cherry-picked and juxtaposed so as to depict him as a controversial, loved-and-loathed-in-equal-measure type of character. It’s highly inappropriate that the article’s introduction section offers splashy subjective content like that in the first place, but even more so that it comes before hardly any factual statements concerning Steiner’s career of over 60 years.

There’s something striking about how the introduction to George Steiner’s page ironically mimics the flaws he’s accused of evincing both in his writing and in his sensibility. The second sentence of the whole article refers to him as a “pretentious namedropper” while not only framing his work through the composite criticisms of relatively more obscure writers and intellectuals, but by making sure to reference, or at least present the opinions of, the most elite, such as the novelist AS Byatt, the philosopher A. C. Grayling, and the historian Harriet Harvey-Wood. No other figure of George Steiner’s ilk has a Wikipedia page prefaced by such a weird, unfortunate introduction.

If the highly specific quotations reprinted in George Steiner’s introduction should appear anywhere at all, they should appear in a section that comes after descriptions of his life and work. Biographical Wikipedia pages commonly feature opinions on their subjects under section headings like “Reception” or “Criticism and controversy”. The types of opinions currently featured on Steiner’s page have absolutely no place in the introduction section.

Please leave an wp:edit summary explaining the reasoning behind your removal. If it is too detailed, such as what you left here, please start a new section (tap at top of each page), leave the information there. Then remove the content and say "See talk page section: Name of section here". It won't help leaving it on my talk page as someone else won't understand and undo your edit. See wp:talk page guidelines for additional information. Thanks for the note. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 02:44, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

Changes in Moviment Patrijotti Maltin Page

Dear Sir/Madam, MPM has noted this page which is full of incorrect and unfair statements about MPM, we are not extrem right or anti amigration, Malta simply has to much population (1400 per square kilometer), we are not nationalists, our politics can be left and right depending on the issue and the need of the country and it's citizens, last but not least we are not political people we are the people who had to establish a political party to sound the voice of the people in the illusion democracy that we the citizens of Malta live in.

Changes to the page Kozhikode

Hi Jim,

I just found that the changes i made against the page Kozhikode has been taken down since i didn't mention the source. The details i added in the section are mostly based on my own experience about the place since Kozhikode is my hometown and i have been living there for a long time. Would you please consider this and see if the details provided can be included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anjitha121 (talkcontribs) 04:49 04 April 2017 (UTC)

@Anjitha121: What you are referring to is considered original research on Wikipedia. Wikipedia has a wp:verifiability policy and any information needs to wp:cite a wp:reliable source. So, you would need to to leave your phone number and answer calls regarding this 24/7. Which is not really practical to say the least. So, Wikipedia has a policy of wp:No original research. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 07:12, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

weev edit

I'm confused? How can I cite a source to remove incorrect sources? Laymen publications with little knowledge of domain specific subject matter often get things wrong, or shade through the gaps of nuance in a story which--to someone intimately familiar with the subject--renders the story basically as a fabrication. What sort of source can I cite to this effect? Just to be specific, for example, weev actually had zero technical contributions to the AT&T data breech which essentially every single major publication cites as his (only) bona fides as to being a "hacker". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.9.8.232 (talk) 08:40, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi, You reverted an edit relating to the F35 LiftSystem. The article implies that Lockheed Martin designed the LiftSystem. Visibility of Wikipedia article on google search rersults

Unaissait (talk) 06:00, 5 April 2017 (UTC)hello Jim, I am Unais. As we had already discussed , the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_for_Product_Design_and_Manufacturing is not coming in search engine results such as google.I would like to know why it is not coming in google search and what are essential things i have to do in order to make it visible.

@Unaissait: I don't know. I believe that Google is constantly tweaking their search engine (for the worse in my opinion) and keep their methods and algorithms under wraps. You might do better to search on yahoo or bing for such criteria. Google may obscure or obfuscate searches for such information on their own search engine. @Kharkiv07: I don't mind being reverted. The IP's ES didn't seem to match his actions. Obviously, should have looked closer. I do find a lot of whitewashing. Removal of an edition

@Jim1138:

Hi

I've removed a part of an article about Iranian presidential election, 2017. Please check the page's history (it was removed by others a few times already).

The "candidate" that I removed is only identified by a primary source (with not a single Persian word), claiming to be the founder of a "group" that doesn't exist anymore since the 12th century ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayy%C4%81r ).

The secondary source is not giving any specific information about the said candidate (proof: members are asked by editor to "contact Iranian Embassy of France to have confirmation"). And the guy doing his promotion on Wikipedia says that "I'll modify the article each time you change it."

Thanks

Reza Fariborz (talk) 09:45, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

@Reza Fariborz: Your edit summary was removing unsourced materials. There is a source. If it was wp:primary sourced materials, you should have stated that. People reuse names such as Ayyār all the time. Just because it hasn't been used for awhile, doesn't mean a group with that name doesn't exist.
BTW: Please use English wp:commonnames. i.e. the English word "Persian" instead of "Farsi" Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:54, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
@Jim1138:Thanks for your answer, and friendly message. I've corrected my text here about Persian. About the "group", a google (on dot fr) search gives, with the request "France Ayyaran", no relevant result, nor you can find it on a specific site : http://www.france-politique.fr/wiki/Catégorie:Partis_politiques . So, yes, my summary was wrong, but I still believe the part I removed was advertising. Anyway I leave the decision up to you. Cheers to you too

I went ahead an RV'd you "RV". The actual article on the term "Hadji" and it's various uses, including by U.S military personnel is adequately sourced in the actual article. Mix-up

If you don't mind, how did this mix-up come about? I ask because of a very recent impersonation situation that I just had to deal with. Thanks. DarkKnight2149 21:02, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

@Darkknight2149: I have no idea how that happened. Especially strange that you hadn't made any edits that day. I also incorrectly warned Elevatorone for 3RR. Elevatorone asked why which is how I found out about it. I believe that I had opened the two user's talk pages who were edit warring on Kevin O'Leary (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). Yet, I somehow didn't open them and yours and Elevatorone's user talk pages were open, so I warned you two. Browser problems: no excuse, I should have been more thorough. I don't believe there was any impersonation involved, just my blunder. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 21:38, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

Your IP address changed which will make it very difficult to communicate. Please get an wp:account!
  • Please use an wp:edit summary (ES) explaining your reasoning for the edit.
  • You removed the two lines at the top, wp:tags which should remain. If you have a good reason to remove them, do it with one edit/save cycle giving your reasoning in the ES.
  • You doubled the wp:category count which was why I called it a "test".
  • Avoid wp:puffery "multi-award winning". Use an encyclopedic wp:tone (i.e. rather dry) instead of a promotional tone. Note that Ridley Scott does not say anything like that at the top. It does state in Ridley Scott#Awards and nominations section.
  • The section T.J. Scott#1990s: Early feature film and TV work should stay. This is his history, not necessarily what Scott wants on the page.
  • Same with the Orphan Black section.
  • The article is meant to be a biography, not a promotional article.

Deendar edit

@Jim1138:

Right wing hindutva facists are now maligning and changing every bit of narrative on internet. Deendar's are an open book. They do not get covered in mainstream media because they carry very low profile from limelight, thus making it difficult to quote references. I had personally visited headquarters and met the deendar preachers personally. They are totally all about mysticism. Have never seen such an organization which gives a message and unites all religions, castes and creed. Narrow minded Muslims hate them because they read hindu scriptures and right wing hindus hate them because they think they are trying to convert hindus to muslims.

Raptorz12 (talk) 14:25, 13 April 2017 (UTC) As a Sri Lankan, Iraj normally uses the spelling "Weerarathne". The alternate spelling "Weeraratne" can be also used. But I'd like to move the page to the name "Iraj Weerarathne". Also, the source you mentioned is unacceptable.

Thanks for the pep talk

Jim,

I don't do many edits in Wikipedia. But, as a retired journalist, sometimes I can't let the bad English or poor style go uncorrected. :-) Now, as unofficial editor of the Pecos Conference page, I may be contributing more frequently. Thanks for correcting the location of the link. I'll read the guides you sent to make sure I'm doing it right.

The map of Kingdom of Tondo

The sources are either non-peer reviewed (blogs without academic approval) or unreachable (http://elgu2.ncc.gov.ph/mauban/index.php?id1%3D3%26id2%3D1%26id3%3D0). I will write more debunking the plausibility of the Kingdom of Tondo extending far beyond to the Bicol peninsula, but I guess the fact that the sources aren't even peer-reviewed is enough reason to remove the map. Stricnina (talk) 12:23, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

I'm going to have to concur with this. There's a popular sentiment pushing for the aggrandizement of the Pasig River Kingdoms which has been well documented and widely debunked by scholars (entire chapters of Nick Joaquin's Culture and History focused on this), and for some strange reason, Kingdom of Tondo seems to have become a flashpoint. I mean, for crying out loud: at one point, I've had to beat back a theory that the Song Dynasty somehow migrated to Luzon after it's downfall in China. The reliability of sources is definitely going to need checking. - Alternativity (talk) 07:39, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Nextio entry

Hi. There is a new company named Nextio. There was an old company with that same spelling (but different capitalization -- NextIO) that went out of business a few years ago. Someone edited https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NextIO to refer to the new company, but you reverted those changes. If you go to the url www.nextio.com, you'll see that it points to the new company.

Can you let me know why you reverted the changes? And if you know how to best handle situations like this where two entities have the same name, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Driveybydude (talk) 18:05, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

@Driveybydude: Create a new article. Don't hijack the old one. It's hard to get to the blank page, but here it is: Nextio Make sure that it meets wp:notability. Add an {{about}} or {{about2}} to the top of both pages so people can find the other article easily. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:31, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Asaram

Sir,

many information on the wiki page of asaram is wrong, i would like to draw your attention on some of them.

1. Page Name :- Asaram

Sir its a request to change the name from Asaram to Asaram Bapu Ji or at least Asaram Bapu.

2. Title Arrest

Sir, in this title it is written that "The girl's parents filed a complaint with the police in Delhi, and a medical examination report confirmed that she had been assaulted.[55][56]"

However the truth is in medical report No Rape or Any type of sexual assault has been found. You have also mentioned it in your article (In October 2016 the India Times reported that the medical reports found no proof of rape or assault.[64]) but later, and these two contradictory statement on same page doesnt look nice. The truth is in medical report No Rape or Any type of sexual assault has been found. Pls mention it.

The second truth is, later during investigation with the help of girl's certificate it is found that the said girl is not minor but an adult.

3. In your article it is written that "He (Asaram Bapu) had also said that he was impotent and not capable of sexual assault; according to India Today Asharam Bapu passed a potency test administered by a local medical college.[62]

Truth : - He has never told that he is impotent. 1.186.116.146 (talk) 09:56, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

King of the Hill/Hank Hill reversion?

@Jim1138:

The previous version that you reverted mine to makes extremely sloppy (and repetitive) use of the term "conservative," conflating Hank's Conservative politics, conventionality, modesty, and morality. My edit also corrected the sloppy use of "progressive" and redneck, and added the fact that Hank can and does (reluctantly) adapt to novel situations with alacrity and skill, as well as improving the phrasing. Why was this any of a problem? Do you disagree with those points? I could provide numerous episode citations, but why should that be necessary? I said nothing objectionable. The previous version you prefer was controversial and prejudiced, mine is not. Please change it back. Johngorno (talk) 05:43, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

@Johngorno: It has been that way for at least 18 months. If you look online for sources, you will find Hill described that way, such as here. I don't think your description of Hill fits. BTW: conservative is not a proper noun and probably should not be capitalized. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 06:34, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

@Jim1138: The previous version's duration doesn't make it superior: if you have a particular disagreement about a Wikipedia entry, it would be better to change the particular you disagree with, rather than discarding an entire edit.

Firstly, do you disagree about the points I made about the sloppy terminology? See https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/conservative for the synonyms I am substituting. Wikipedia also correctly capitalizes Conservative in the context that I have corrected. The version I am correcting sloppily uses "progressive" to refer to the unconventional and uses the often-derogatory "redneck" without quotations.

As for Hank's character, one can forgive a source outside of Wikipedia for its imprecision or failure to present a thorough, nuanced approach, as it is seldom intended to serve as an encyclopedic source, rather, to make particular points of interest to the author. How much of the show have you watched? In the pimp episode, the quicinera episode, the Ren Faire episode, the nude resort episode, and many other examples, Hank's adaptive abilities are clear. Johngorno (talk) 01:12, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

@Johngorno: I have moved the discussion to talk:Hank Hill. You may wish to read wp:talk page guidelines. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 03:43, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

removal of a page

Could you please remove the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavian_Bunkering? I have put a delete tag on it but that seems to be removed and the content itself was edited. This company has been acquired by another company and this name or company doesn't exists any more. In fact when we search new company's name on Google it will feature Scandinavian Bunkering logo and copy which is sourced from wiki. I don't know how many times we need to request this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Faris ma (talkcontribs) 05:43, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

@Faris ma: I left a message regarding most of this on your talk page. I doubt that there is any Wikipedia wp:policy dictating the deletion of articles based on how others want Google search to behave. Jim1138 (talk) 06:19, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

@Jim1138: I don't understand. My request is this, how would I remove this page. If its not possible easily how would I edit the content, logo, and link of the page completely to the new one? Please help.Faris ma (talk) 06:43, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

The article per WP:DEFUNCT should stay and the topic should continue to be about Scandinavian Bunkering. Wikipedia does not delete or obscure articles on defunct companies. There are many articles on defunct companies on Wikipedia. Example: Spinnaker Software, Dysan. So, Scandinavian Bunkering is not an especially unusual case. You should create a new article. Suggested name: Glander International Bunkering (It is a wp:redlink because there is no content. You get to create the page). See your talk page for links about creating the new article. Note, in Scandinavian Bunkering, there is a redlink to Glander International Bunkering. Jim1138 (talk) 06:52, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Shark Shield

Hi Jim,

I have been editing the Shark Shield page (my company) over the past few years under another user name and assumed that the best way to show who was editing our company page was the company, you suggesting that this is not correct and that company pages should be edited by anonymous user names, is this the correct policy? IBM can not edit their company page as IBM it must be a different user name? Thanks for your assistance.

Best regards Lindsay Lyon, Managing Director Shark Shield. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SharkShield (talkcontribs) 04:19, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

@SharkShield: It's not about anonymity, it's about a conflict of interest. IBM is not welcome to edit the article about them. It is not "their" page, it is our page about them. Employees of IBM are welcome to edit any article that is not about them or their competitors. Likewise, the Shark Shield page is not your page, it is our page about your company. You are not welcome to edit the page about your company or your competitors. You have a conflict of interest with regard to those topics. Ian.thomson (talk) 04:29, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Understand the conflict question and who "owns" the page, however it is impossible for "other" people to know more about the history of my company that I own, it is simply not possible and can only result in misinformation, without my knowledge the page on the company I own and am building can never be accurate, conflict of interest or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arkpro (talkcontribs) 04:40, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Edit war

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Michael Del Zotto shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
I've reported your disruptive behavior to the administrator noticeboard and pinged you there. Please do give it a look. --140.32.16.52 (talk) 07:06, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Regarding the edit I on keep doing.

Don't quote Polygon, and the so called "critics" that made the articles regarding Persona 5's localization aren't even professionals. They are actually bunch of fan translators/amateurs when it comes to localization in games and most of them didn't even work on a single professional project. They were only making such articles just to grab some attention and potentially give them a real job in an official localization. The Persona 5 English localization has few clunky text but they are no where near as problematic has these people are making it to be. Most of the reviews from Metacritic don't even mention the faults and some even praised the localization effort. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JonCl (talkcontribs) 03:01, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Salesforce Tower Criticism Section Deletion

It's frustrating that I am having difficulty removing a section clearly unsuitable for encyclopedic writing. Especially given that it blemishes an article of relative importance. Please consider vouching for its deletion. To spare you the trouble, here is a sentence by sentence rundown:

  1. "Pelli's design for the Transbay Tower has been subject to significant criticism due as its oblong shape and relatively underwhelming design compared to other proposals by architects such as SOM and Richard Rogers." "Relatively underwhelming" by academic consensus? Purely the writer's opinion, unsupported by the citation provided.
  2. "Despite the tower not being completed, San Francisco Curbed readers rated Salesforce Tower as one of the 20 ugliest buildings in the city". Cites a post from a blogging network, hardly an encyclopedic source. The blog does not elaborate on their methodology for ranking the "ugliest" buildings in San Francisco."
  3. "Many also noted their disappointment that the tower, built on formerly state-owned land and claiming the highest elevation point in San Francisco, does not have a public viewing deck." "Many" is a weasel-word. The citation does confirm that the tower lacks a public viewing deck. This is perhaps the only relevant information that could be included in a future revision of the criticism section.
  4. "Satirical blogs have also ridiculed the tower for its 'provocative' shape." Cites a blog-post on medium, potentially self-published.

I urge you, in the interest of maintaining a minimum standard of quality, to delete the section as it's currently written. 69.181.43.224 (talk) 05:07, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
