Disputed fair use rationale for Image:StarksnYK.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:StarksnYK.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Jerry_lucas_350.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Jerry_lucas_350.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 17:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:John_kundla.jpg[edit]

I have tagged Image:John_kundla.jpg as no rationale, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:JoWHiteBos.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 20:36, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Date changes in Kerry Sibraa[edit]

Hi! With regards to this edit to Kerry Sibraa, the dates you changed both appear to have been correct previously. According to his ParlInfo biography, his first term as a Senator was "deemed to have begun 1.7.75", not June 30, and his second term began when he was "Appointed by the Governor-in-Council of New South Wales on 9.8.78", not 1987. I have changed those two dates back. --Stormie (talk) 22:15, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

USS Ronald Reagan edits[edit]

Mr. Solis, regarding your edits to USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), they appear to be moot. As Wikipedia:Dates#Autoformatting and linking points out, when dates are linked as those were, they will appear however the user has deemed when they set their preferences. For readers who are not users and thus don't have the benefit of setting a preferred way to view dates, the previous format was perfectly acceptable. I have not reverted your edits, but wanted to make you aware of this feature. Regards, Daysleeper47 (talk) 15:36, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dates[edit]

Noticed you changed at date at Mwai Kibaki from 15 November to November 15. Dates in wikilinks are automatically adjusted to display according to your own Wikipedia preferences on the Date and Time tab, so such changes don't need to be made to wikilinked dates in articles. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Autoformatting and linking--Jeffro77 (talk) 11:26, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I did some checking, and mm/dd/yyyy is indeed the typical date format employed in Kenya, so your edit was better for those users who have not set their own date preference, as it will default to teh preferred local Kenyan setting of having the month first.--Jeffro77 (talk) 10:06, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:PetriePort.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:PetriePort.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. 2007 census[edit]

While you're changing some of the data on the provinces, how about incorporating the existing 2000 data to give more encyclopedic information. For example:

"Based on the August 2007 census, Mandaue City has a total population of 318,575 people. This figure is up by 58,847 from 259,728 persons recorded in the May 2000 census, giving an annual growth rate of 2.96% during the 7-year period--significantly higher than the national average of 2.04%. If this growth rate were maintained, Mandaue would double its population in 24 years."

Asturias[edit]

Two topics:

 • Origin of the name Asturias, and the related "Principado de Asturias".
 • It can be useful to have access to the economic aid program of Asturias, it`s easy to note that my village is used to give hundreds of thousands euros in aid in America. This small townhall in Cebu can find this information quite useful.

New Project[edit]

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 07:04, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Magic Johnson has been chosen to be our very first Collaboration of the Month article. Although this is article is already a Good Article, it still can be improved. The goal is to improve this article by the end of May so that it can be nominated for Featured Article status. In particular, free-use images should be found for the article, all Manual of Style guidelines should be followed, and a neutral point of view should be maintained throughout the article. A tag has been placed on Rəʊˈzeɪʃə, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template hangon to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Poor Joseph[edit]

Putting the Related Section is biased, too, since the editor who had wrote the section don't have concrete evidence to the claim (other than newspaper articles, which is obviously very opinionated). having this as a reason, I think, it is just appropriate to delete it.

Hello . The Highly Active Users project has gone through a complete revamping per popular demand. We believe this new format will make it easier for new editors to find assistance. However, with the new format, I must again ask you to verify your information on this page. With the extensive changes, I may have made some errors. You will also need to add to your userpage in order for SoxBot V to automatically update your online/offline status. If you do not added this text, you will always be listed as "offline" at HAU. Thanks. Useight (talk) 02:56, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you about this again, but you have yet to update your information at Highly Active Users. If you do not update your entry, it will be removed within 48 hours. Thanks. Useight (talk) 16:08, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 22:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problems[edit]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Image:Lopez-mateos.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/lopez-mateos.htm. As a copyright violation, Image:Lopez-mateos.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Image:Lopez-mateos.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

 • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Image:Lopez-mateos.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
 • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Image:Lopez-mateos.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
 • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Image:Lopez-mateos.jpg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. Esteban Zissou (talk) 14:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Font size[edit]

Hello. Would you please not go around changing the font size of references, as there are people who don't like them smaller.[1] Gimmetrow 07:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If four notes is "too long", then what in your opinion would not need changing? There is no need to use reflist for short lists of notes. Gimmetrow 07:57, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[2] That's the crux of the matter then. Please read the documentation of reflist, which says "Note that there is no consensus that small font size should always be used for all references". Gimmetrow 08:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's nice that you have a preference. Do you have to *vandalize* articles based on it? If you change every instance to reflist, you are acting as if it is policy, which it is not. Please do not change short lists of references to small font. The guideline used to say somewhere between 10-15 references was OK for small font. Gimmetrow 08:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I must say you have guts, making edits like [3] and [4] after this discussion. If you think all articles without exception should use smaller font for notes, then start a discussion to make that the policy. Until then, such edits make the font smaller for readers, which inhibits accessibility without a good reason, and are also "trivial" edits. Consider this a formal warning. Gimmetrow 01:45, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[5] [6] Again, if you want all articles without exception to use small font for references, please start a discussion to make that policy. Otherwise, please stop arbitrarily changing the font size of notes on articles with few notes, or you may be blocked from editing. Gimmetrow 03:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a person with less than perfect eyesight, I object to unnecessary changes to font sizes; reflist can be used when there is a long list of references, making it necessary. Otherwise, these changes are not necessary; please find a more productive way to spend your time on Wiki, and cease the personal attacks. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Wiki editing tends to involve give and take. If it were up to me, all text would be the same size, since unlike a paper document, variable fonts gain us nothing. But others disagree, so we make compromises. I don't have a problem with [7] since it has quite a few notes. Could you consider leaving the notes be if the article already has a <references/> tag and 10 or fewer references? Gimmetrow 23:46, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the personal attack you lodged at Gimmtrow's talk page: I hate you. [8]

See Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy and comment on content, not on contributors. Continued personal attacks will lead to blocks for disruption. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Fitchcavs.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Fitchcavs.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ph pres arroyo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ph pres arroyo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:36, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA was unsuccessful[edit]

Good Morning Joseph Solis in Australia. Unfortunately, I closed your recent request for adminship per the generally accepted snowball clause for RfAs that are not likely to succeed. I believe you do have the potential to become a user who could be promoted to administratorship in the forseeable future, especially in consideration of the clear dedication you put in. Try to ensure that you take all the criticism in the oppose section constructively, and most importantly, communicate with those that voiced their opinion in your RfA, and, by discussion, you will eventually find a better ideal of what is needed in an administrative candidate and even try to look for improvements in yourself. I would also like to suggest that you seek community feedback on your standing, possibly at an editor review. This will eventually assist you in your development and give you general tips on the community on Wikipedia. Rudget (logs) 10:33, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. WP:HAU, Status, and you![edit]

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 23:13, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Years usually not wikilinked when alone[edit]

Hello Joseph Solis. Guidelines recommend not wikilinking to years when they are alone, without specific context and rationale for linking to them. Hence it's "born 1913", not "born 1913". On the other hand, full dates should always be wikilinked so as to ensure the date will be rendered as formatted according to the reader's date preferences; hence, it's "born July 9, 1913)", not "born July 9, 1913". Image:Podolof_180x250.jpg[edit]

I have tagged Image:Podolof_180x250.jpg as no rationale, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Thank you. Status template[edit]

Hello, just to let you know, I've recently updated the status template you use to make it look better for users with longer usernames like yourself. I made a quick edit to your userpage just now to implement this; hope you don't mind. Please let me know if you have any trouble with it. Happy editing! Why do you edit Chinese in Indonesia?[edit]

I am a native Javanese. What possible sliver of qualification could you possibly have to alter the edit- esepcially when such "inconvenient truths" are very well-documented. As they say, the truth indeed hurts- but why must you censor truth it if you trendily claim to be anti-racist- absolute freedom of speech is the cornerstone f the post-modernist anti-racist dogma- correct? I suggest you stick with what you know bestStarstylers (talk) 18:13, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

According to the history of the article- it would appear as if numerous controversial wording within the original document were removed coincidental with your edits. I'm not sure whether Wikipedia has stuffed up and not shown deliberate vandalism by others- but this is why I contacted you.Starstylers (talk) 06:45, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
