the distribution map for the primate Cebus apella

Hi, Mysid. I´ve been working on the article Tufted capuchin or Cebus apella and I noticed that you have posted the IUCN Red Data Book map for Cebus apella apella. Since this is only one subspecies of the species it is initself inaccurate to represent the entire species. I am just recently working in Wikipedia (in English and Spanish) but I am a neotropical primatologist. Would you be willing to work with me to produce a map for the entire species? It could either be put together using the individual subspecies of Cebus apella or I could send you a scan by another primatologist for the entire species. Those Red Data List maps are beautiful and clear, but it is important to realize that they can be for an entire species or for a subspecies. Huicocos (talk) 16:48, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi, and thanks for the comments. My map is a composite of the distributions of the subspecies Cebus apella apella and Cebus apella margaritae. The distribution of C. a. margaritae is very small and for that reason is virtually invisible on my map. ›mysid () 02:36, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Dothack logo.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Dothack logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Morjens, muutamia virheitä tuossa kartassa:

Matkustajaliikennettä ei ole seuraavilla osuuksilla:

  • Savonlinna–Huutokoski (Huutokoski on Pieksämäen itäpuolella missä Joensuun ja Parikkalan suunnat erkanevat)
  • Nurmes–Kontiomäki
  • Lahti–Loviisa
  • Nurmes–Kontiomäki

Seuraavat rataosat puuttuvat:

  • Pori–Parkano–Haapamäki (suljettu liikenteeltä/lakkautettu lukuun ottamatta kartalla jo olevaa Parkanon ympäristöä)
  • Otanmäki–Murtomäki–Talvivaara (Kajaanin eteläpuolella, vain tavaraliikennettä)
  • Vuokatti–Lahnaslampi (vain tavaraliikennettä)

Thanks for the corrections. I would preferably base the changes on some sources, but let's see. ›mysid () 02:27, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Here you are then. Passenger trains and JunaBussi (which is not a train) route map, which you have used as a source, and for the complete map of current railway lines (excluding discontinued ones listed above) can be found in Rataverkon kuvaus. JunaBussi routes should not be included in the map about railway network since their routes do not correspond to the actual rail lines. --85.23.68.235 (talk) 00:59, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:41, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Request for topographic map help

Hello. We are making some non-commercial regionalistic project for promotion of one not very known Belarusian region - Navahratchyna, native land of such persons as Vaišvilkas, Adam Mickiewicz, Ignacy Domeyko, Radziwiłł family and many others. At the present moment I created one map featuring the region and present administrative division of Belarus (the full bigger variant of map is here). But the idea is also to create topographic one featuring very interesting hilly landscape of the area. This topographic map could be also used in four language wiki-articles about Navahrudak highland Наваградзкае ўзвышша, Наваградзкае ўзвышша, Новогрудская возвышенность, Новогрудська височина, which is part of the Belarusian Ridge.

Unfortunately my present graphical skills are in no way suitable for this. So while looking through wiki pages I noticed your amazing topographic works. So, I decided to address you in order to request help to create the topographical map of Navahratchyna. Also I think you as a person of Finnish origin have quite a good knowledge about our country closely related to the Baltic area. I would be very grateful if you would have any interest to help me as well as time to contribute to it. If no, then please feel free to delete this my request.

Best regards, Kiryl —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.120.48.168 (talk) 15:52, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:MS-DOS icon.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:MS-DOS icon.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Question about map making

Hi! I'm from russian wiki, I translated your Buru map to russian. So I make some maps and there's a problem I can't solve, may be you could help me. How to convert .asc data files to .grd files? --Das steinerne Herz (talk) 20:48, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately I haven't worked with .asc files. Are you sure your data source doesn't have .grd files as well? Google would suggest using programs such as VTBuilder or LandSerf to import and export files in different formats. ›mysid () 21:23, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll try them. And yes, may be there's no problem in fact: I've found .asc data files in this SRTM source, do you know are there .grd files there? I couldn't find it either. You've made Buru map using that source, haven't you? --Das steinerne Herz (talk) 21:53, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's the same source. I use the GeoTiff formatted data. ›mysid () 21:57, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Norwegian Signal System - Signal 24

Hi!

Nice pictures you have made of the Norwegian Railway signals!

One comment:

The picture you have made of signal 24 (yellow/green flashing), is made of 4 frames showing the yellow light beeing switched on before the green light. This is not correct, the yellow and green lights are flashing syncronous in signal 24.

When signal 24 is switched on directly from black, the green light will be delayed about 0.1 sec the first time the signal goes on. After this the yellow and green light are flashing syncronously.

If the yellow lamp is failing during signal 24, the green lamp will normally flash alone 2-3 seconds before the control circuit switches it off. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtwold (talkcontribs) 00:47, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
