DO NOT TALK TO ME ABOUT:[edit]

Picayune little details about why I used a twelve hour clock instead of military time or why I used American spelling (because I am an American!) and not British for color. Anything trivial along those lines will be ignored and probably erased from this page. If you don't like that I wrote "Such and such happened at 2:43PM", don't ask me why I did it. If it bothers you enough to leave me a message about it, then make the effort to change it to 14:43. If it doesn't bother you enough to change it, then it isn't worth the effort to leave me a message.

Save your efforts for things that are more important like whether or not an article should be deleted or "Hey, the article you wrote said that Sam's Bar & Grill owned by Celebrity A is in My Town, CA when I really thought it was in Your Town, CA. Can you help me figure out which it really is?"Postcard Cathy (talk) 06:14, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Jahn's[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Jahn's has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A7 -- no credible claim of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Epeefleche (talk) 00:25, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride 2014[edit]

Hi Postcard Cathy. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Atlanta's Wikipedia:Meetup/Atlanta/Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. We are expanding the LGBT Atlanta, Georgia pages. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --tdempsey (talk) 06:59, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Hope these hints are helpful[edit]

Hello, Cathy,

Came here out of curiosity, and noted you seem to have a recurring problem. To avoid being interrupted while editing, post the "inuse" template at the top of the article thusly:

Warns off interrupting editors, but doesn't do much about bots.

And to deflect our picayune "cousins" who insist on the natural superiority of their brand of English, here's a helpful template to post on the article Talk page:

I have found both of these templates to be very handy.

Georgejdorner (talk) 19:31, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Very helpful. Thank you. Many years ago, the British way of spelling is the only way to spell on wiki people were so condescending, it is part of the reason I left. Postcard Cathy (talk)

Robert Henry Eringer[edit]

I apologize to you, I should have addressed this article sooner.

Thank you for your edits on Robert Henry Eringer, the article is a duplicate created by a newbie. I believe that the newbie was trying to deflect an organized character assignation effort on the open internet and the Wikipedia. Here is what the Robert Eringer archive article looked like before I startied improving it.

I am a paid editor, working on the article Robert Eringer. I apologize, I should have looked into making the RHE article a redirect, or at least nominate for a merge by now. (I don't know if there is a duplicate article template.)

On Robert Eringer, there is a discussion concerning the Monaco section, which is woefully incorrect at this point. The latest version of my copy is at Talk:Robert_Eringer#Monaco_proposed_III again, I apologize about the consumption of your time. I will look into some sort of template to warn others that the article is a duplicate topic. 009o9 (talk) 02:46, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

I didn't even notice since I was only trying to get rid of the dead end tag. We're you able to merge the articles? Postcard Cathy (talk)

PS your article looks Better. The Henry one seemed fake to me. Postcard Cathy (talk)

I suggest blanking RHE and making it a redirect to Robert Eringer, however, as a paid editor, I'm not sure if I am welcome to do that kind of editing in the Article space.009o9 (talk) 03:01, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Merge proposal? Postcard Cathy (talk)
I would hate to open that can of worms. Some of my edits have some RHE article content.
If you and I had consensus on the Talk page, I'll notify the other editor and go ahead and do the redirect. I'm pretty certain that the editor will concur and the redirect will be trivial with consensus. 009o9 (talk) 03:13, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
we got a plan. Postcard Cathy (talk)
I left a note on User talk:Grapes033 the account only has one edit (the RHE article), so not sure if I will get a response. I'll give it a day or two and hope nobody else wastes any time on the RHE article. (Which I did tag with a Duplicate template) Thanks you, and so sorry I didn't find and place that template sooner. 009o9 (talk) 03:37, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

I responded to your question on my userpage, making sure you have been notified. Also, contacted the creating editor of RHE, we have consensus, I'll go ahead and do the redirect. Thanks again! 009o9 (talk) 00:01, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Aunt Carrie's[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Aunt Carrie's requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Anne O'Shea and Annie O'Shea[edit]

I would prefer that solution! MaynardClark (talk) 11:03, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Anne O'Shea has been recreated as a redirect for Annie O'Shea. Merging the two articles and creating one as a redirect would have been more preferable in my opinion. Chris (talk) 23:37, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Ways to improve Barbara Lynch (restaurateur)[edit]

Hi, I'm Kiwuser. Postcard Cathy, thanks for creating Barbara Lynch (restaurateur)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. You're mainly quoting articles, you should rewrite what they say to make it more biographical

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. - Kiwuser (talk) 02:01, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

By the time I got to those paragraphs, I was so tired my eyes hurt. I am relying on the collaborative nature of wiki to help me better integrate the information into the article. My mistake. The modus operandi here seems to be point out what you have an issue with rather than do something to improve the situation. So my challenge to you is: you have a legit issue. Come up with a legit solution. Otherwise please do not discuss the issue with me because quite honestly, you did not tell me anything I did not notice myself But I chose to put the info out there, warts and all. Call me brave. Rise to the challenge to improve it rather than just point out my mistakes. Postcard Cathy (talk) 04:40, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

I do not see any references at all. And I argue that chewing your food is not only important but necessary regardless of your religious point of view. This article needs a major rewrite and references, facts, etc Postcard Cathy (talk)

Chevy Chase Elementary School[edit]

From your edit summary, Prod deleted. This is the 53rd Article in the category Public elementary schools in Maryland. Multiply that by 50 US states and international locations and that to me negates the claim about elementary schools not being on wiki.

It's best if you do not lie and make up stats in edit summaries to keep an article. Category:Public elementary schools in Maryland lists only five, not 53 elementary schools. Two of those listed are redirects. A quick search of "Notability Elementary School" would show how very wrong you are. Bgwhite (talk) 22:29, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

To User:Bgwhite, your language is harsh. You used the same accusation in the AFD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chevy Chase Elementary School. I happen to notice that Category:Private elementary schools in Maryland currently has 52 members; perhaps it had 53 then, and perhaps Postcard_Cathy mistakenly substituted that tally rather than the tally for Category:Private elementary schools in Maryland, which would be pretty innocuous. The total of public and private both is 58 i guess, and P_C was editing which one was to appear in the article. Perhaps an apology is needed, IMHO. To Postcard_Cathy, it does seem like you made a mistake in your edit summary; I personally would choose to respond to it at the AFD or with Bgwhite here or at their Talk page. Hope this helps somehow. --doncram 03:19, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

I didn't think User:Bgwhite needed a response. So not worth it. But even if I made a mistake, my point is still the same. There are many elementary schools with articles on wiki and the fact that they exist shows that in and of itself, they can be notable. And if an edit summary alone determines the fate of an article, it is a very sad day. Nuff said. And BTW, an apology will be appreciated. But then again, a mature person would offer one without being asked to do so. Postcard Cathy (talk) 06:43, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

I do not remember saying that. I do remember saying I saw you talking about things like fetal alcohol syndrome but I was having a hard time connecting that to Ramadan fasting. Postcard Cathy (talk) 08:56, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of cat additions for Category:Delta Sigma Theta[edit]

I've been going through and deleting occurences of Category:Delta Sigma Theta members where there is no other mention of Delta Sigma Theta in the article (Example: Tanya Walton Pratt). A number of the ones appear to have been added by you. I'm not sure where you got the information that these women are Delta Sigma Theta sisters, but as I understand the rules on Wikipedia categories, the articles themselves need to contain information that supports the category.Naraht (talk) 03:17, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

I agree that true consistency would be referenced in the list article, in the category, and referenced on the individual woman's page. But all pages need to be *internally consistent* which means that information about them (including the fact that they are part of a category) needs to be referenced on that page. Similiarly if there was a page on notable alumni of University of Florida, that included "Jane Smith", but the Jane Smith page did not mention going to University of Florida, I would delete the membership in Category:University of Florida Alumni. Naraht (talk) 14:12, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

I don't agree especially if the other article has a credible reference. Someone was simply negligent in puttin it in the article about the person. But it does not mean it isn't true. Postcard Cathy (talk) 06:10, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Well, WP:TRUTH. And I'd be happy to provide you a list of all of the articles I've changed and any more that fit the criteria. I'd be thrilled if all Wikipedia arguments were at this level of Civility. In that spirit, would you be interested in seeing if we can find a 3rd party on this?Naraht (talk) 16:15, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

It isn't important enough for me to take it to the next level. But if you want to pursue the issue, for example, a conutied general discussion along these lines, I eoild probably weigh in at some point. Postcard Cathy (talk) 18:41, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

John A. Chapman, journalist[edit]

Hi! Is there any particular reason you moved article John a chapman to John A. Chapman, journalist[1]? First, it is clearly contrary to the Wp:Title (see: WP:COMMADIS). Comma-separated disambiguation is used for place names, not for people. For people, we use parenthetical disambiguation (like "John A. Chapman (journalist)"). And second, you should not move the article unilaterally while the move discussion is ongoing on the talk page (Talk:John_A._Chapman,_journalist#Requested move 27 January 2015). Vanjagenije (talk) 00:08, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

I moved John a chapman because names, as proper nouns, should be capitalized and initials should have periods after them. As the title John A. Chapman was already taken and the title as it was was incorrect from a grammar POV, I had to add journalist. I have seen titles with commas and with paranthesis. If it bothers you enough to say something, then change it again. In my opinion, it makes no difference others than a personal preference as long as the name is properly capitalized. I did not see a move discussion. And really, does a move discussion really need to take place when someone makes a capitalization mistake? Please do not bother me with issues like this. Take it to someone who cares. Postcard Cathy (talk) 00:36, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

I am guessing you saw the message that a bot put on the article saying I needed links. It looks like you did that. Thank you. Removal of Frank Borman from Category:American businesspeople[edit]

Why did you do this? Borman became widely known as the CEO of Eastern Airlines after he left NASA, until he retired in 1986. Is there some kind of rule that members of this category must be exclusively businesspeople their entire careers, or were you simply unaware of this? Would you have objection to me putting it back? JustinTime55 (talk) 21:52, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

American CEOs is a subcategory of American businesspeople. There was no reason to have him categorized as both. It is redundant. You put the person in the most specific category as possible. For example, there is no need to put Joe DiMaggio in the category of baseball players. Putting him in the category of NY Yankees players covers that he is a baseball player. Same with Borman. By definition he is an an American businessman if he is an American CEO. Postcard Cathy (talk) 01:11, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Stub sorting[edit]

Hello, I've been clearing out Category:Stubs recently, and I've noticed that you've added Template:Stub to a few new articles. As a favor to us stub-sorters, please take the time to find a more specific stub tag. Thanks,  Liam987(talk) 01:21, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

I go back and do that later as I am usually categorizing at the time. And some times I truly do not know what stub to attach to the article. That is why this is a cooperative project. I do not know everything and when I don't know something, I leave it to those that know better than I do. That is why there are people like you. Just because I know something is a stub doesn't mean I know as well as you or anyone else ... That is what stub sorters do! If I didn't put them there, someone else would. Postcard Cathy (talk) 03:21, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @Liam987: I wouldn't want to put anyone off from adding {{stub}} to appropriate articles, without stub-sorting them, except in the specific case where they're obviously working on a large group of very similar articles and it would be sensible for them to work out the correct stub type for {{UK-badminton-bio-stub}} or whatever, and add it as they go. The editors worth messaging about adding {{stub}} are the ones who put it in the wrong place, or who add it to articles which already have a sorted stub (often those two groups coincide), or the ones who don't add the template but put the article directly into Category:Stubs or one of its subcats, without adding the template which creates the note on screen. Different people do different things. I stub-sort like mad, but I don't often add categories, usually just slamming in {{uncat}} (or {{catimprove}} where I've done the {{subst:L|bdate|ddate|sortkey}} thing which I always do while stub-sorting bio stubs, as it adds a couple of cats). Each to our own, as long as we're not actually doing anything which harms the encyclopedia or makes life harder for other editors. PamD 08:19, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners[edit]

Hi Cathy, thanks for picking up the broken reference tag that was stopping the final part of the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners article from being displayed- I had erroneously caused this a couple of days ago by not properly completing the syntax on this tag for a duplicate reference when I paused in the middle of trying to clean up a section of text (a section that hadn't been as encyclopaedic in its tone, nor as accurate that it needed to be in describing a controversy). I had reverted the deleted reference tag today intending to fix it, but was then reminded of the large amount of material in that section that still was needing further attention. So after I had undone your edit, I then found myself still taking some time while I was working on fixing the other problems. I guess you figured this out after I made the further changes, but I just wanted to check you were aware I hadn't just undone your edit and then wandered off. I apologise if I had given that impression. Drchriswilliams (talk) 19:41, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

well thank you for fixing it. It came up as not being categorized. Clearly it was and while I could see the problem, I didn't know how to fix it. I am glad you knew! Postcard Cathy (talk) 19:44, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Brick Heck redirect?[edit]

Why is the page for "the middle" tv series character "Brick Heck" that I created changed to redirect to the series page? There are so many pages for characters of different series. The characters in themselves are interesting and has lot to offer in terms of information and learning.

Raghukr (talk) 01:00, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

The correct title would be Brick Heck, not Brick heck. When I went to change it, I could not. Brick Heck already existed and as I said in my edit summary, if the decision was made for Brick Heck to be redirected, then the same reasoning would apply to Brick heck. My only issue with that is I have seen articles with that prod that are extremely old and have not been deleted. Postcard Cathy (talk) 16:35, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Same-I just put up a help on the expired prods as they are getting more and more backed up (also I have noticed for some reason the BLP by days is kind of odd as I've seen ones that should of been under expired that will still say 3 days left for example) Wgolf (talk) 16:40, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Pamela Adams[edit]

The sport she competes in is Judo. CrazyAces489 (talk) 20:45, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

I appreciate your response. Please make sure the article states that! Postcard Cathy (talk) 20:50, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
look at the article. it always stated that. CrazyAces489 (talk) 21:13, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

I beg to differ on the always part. You may think you put it there, but I know it wasn't there. I am very careful about things like that and err on the side of caution before opening my mouth. If you look at the revision history for the article, the following edit summary backs me up: (cur | prev) 09:33, 5 April 2015‎ PamD (talk | contribs)‎ . . (1,083 bytes) (+119)‎ . . (Stub-sorting (you can help!) and cleanup; add sport to text as original editor omitted this key fact) (undo | thank)

Here is what is says in history for when you created the page: "Created page with 'PAMELA ADAMS is a former competitor for the United States. She was the winner of the National Junior Olympics and the National High School Championships in 1976..." Postcard Cathy (talk) 21:37, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Question[edit]

PC, one question for you. Thanks for all your help, by the way. On the mobile version of Wiki, under the name of the article there will sometimes be a second line. Such as under Barack Obama, it might say, "American President." The "American President" line is what I'm asking about. How do you get that to appear on the mobile version? Thanks for any help.BillVol (talk) 02:05, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

I don't know. Just went to,the page and it isn't there. No clue! Postcard Cathy (talk) 04:03, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
