I'm not exactly sure what you were trying to do with this edit, but your edit summary indicates you thought the article had some sort of POV problem. Let me assure you, it does not. Apatosaurus is the universally-accepted name for what was once known as Brontosaurus. It was a mistake, it's been acknowledged as a mistake by the governing body, and removing the word "mistake" doesn't make the article NPOV.--Firsfron of Ronchester 23:48, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- It's not my POV: I didn't write the article, and I didn't declare Brontosaurus invalid. I'm telling you that if the body which governs dinosaur nomenclature says it's so, it's not an example of Wikipedia having a POV bias, so removing the word "mistake" from the article with an edit summary pointing to WP:NPOV doesn't make sense.

No, I mean the name Brontosaurus has been declared a junior synonym by the scientific community, and therefore it is a mistake to call it anything but its correct scientific name (in the article), as dinosaurs do not have common names.
- That Brontosaurus does not actually refer to a distinct genus is a fact. That it's the result of a misinterpretation by Othniel Marsh is a fact. That using the name today is a "mistake" is not. Readers are free to draw that conclusion from the above two facts themselves if they want, but it's not true that that's the only conclusion that could be drawn. Wikipedia is a place to inform people of what both the scientific community and the general public are doing, it's not a place to tell people what they should do. --Ptcamn 00:16, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Who is telling people what they should do?! No one is. But the correct name is Apatosaurus, and that needs to be in the article. Removing scientific findings based on a supposed NPOV violation, when no such NPOV violation exists, is why your edit was reverted. do you know who can answer some q's re aboriginal origin of words?
Many articles re: place names especially say something like "‘Marriang’ is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘emu’ or ‘place of cranes’." Generally these statements are unsourced. Do you know anyone around here who could provide sources for some of these statments? I understand that many of them are refuted, eg Murrumbidgee River (see the talk page for what I mean) --Garrie 05:36, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. While that might be what a very badly bilingual Australian Aboriginal might have used - when translating from an aboriginal dialect which wasn't his native language, into english which wasn't his native language either. But a lot of the comments on the Wagga Wagga page were along the lines of "well basically the guy was saying, don't camp there you'll get flooded out" and Murrumbidgee probably doesn't even mean big water anyway". But nobody involved in the discussion speaks the local dialect, nor do they cite a meaningful reference.

Spelling Revert Question
Why did you revert a spelling correction on the kangaroo page? I changed tactics to tactic but you reverted it back. Why? It seems clear the singular tactic is needed, not the plural tactics; 'another' is singular. Here's the sentence:
- Another defensive tactics described by witnesses is catching the attacking dog with the forepaws and disemboweling it with the hind legs.

- I know what you meant by borrowing from Cyrillic for Zhuang. However, they are still Cyrillic letters (at least considering the computer encodings). Should they become Latin letters, they should get new encoding spaces. At present stage I considered Zhuang language as "using Latin letters and mixed with two Cyrillics".--Hello World! 09:26, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Reversion of blocked user
- I have reverted the edits on this page of a user who is breaching multiple blocks. I apologise for the discourtesy of tampering with your talk page. On the other hand the editor appears very well aware that she is breaching wikipedia blocking policy and has been extremely abusive to me and other editors. There is a Request for Comment about this editor with more recent events, including blocks, being reported on the RfC's discussion page. If you would rather I didn't make such eidts to your talk page in future under any circumstances, please let me know. access to references for Kwakiutl language?
In your edits to Kwakiutl language, you added multiple references to articles by Franz Boas. Do you personally have access to these articles? I'm specifically interested in "Sketch of the Kwakiutl language" (only because of the title). I assume that article is no longer under copyright, so if you were able to scan it I would be forever indebted. Thanks for the give-n-take on Talk:List of Australian Aboriginal languages. At the risk of repeating myself, I really do think we both have the same goal -- better coverage of languages.
Let me know if your thinking ever evolves on the topic of our discussion. I still think having separate lists is the way to go, but am amenable to other options. :-)
