Speedy deletion of Werner J.A. Dahm

A tag has been placed on Werner J.A. Dahm requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. How to verify copyright permission for article Werner Dahm

Hello, Wdahm.

Thank you for your interest in donating material from http://www.physicstoday.org/obits/notice_206.shtml to Wikipedia. Since we do not currently have a method in place to verify the identity of account holders at account creation, we must verify such donations through external processes. The article has been blanked to allow time for that verification to proceed.

The simplest way to verify is to place a release on that external website putting the material into public domain or releasing it under a license compatible with GFDL, which permits modification and reuse, even commercially, as long as authorship credit is given. This release is irrevocable and must continue to be displayed, or the material will need to be removed. A statement such as the following, including the link to the GFDL, would be sufficient: "The contents of this website (or page, if you are specifically releasing one section) are available for modification and reuse under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.3 and later." If you decide to take this route, please put a link to that release on Talk:Werner Dahm so we can restore the contents.

Alternatively, you may choose to send an e-mail to the Wikimedia Foundation from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL. There is a boilerplate release form at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries which can be helpful. Please provide a clear link to the website in your e-mail and specify by name the article on Wikipedia in which the material is being used. Once your e-mail is received and processed by a member of the Communications Committee, the article's contents will be restored if your release is legally sufficient. Please make a note that you've done this on Talk:Werner Dahm to help guard against premature deletion of the page. You can compose a note or very simply paste the following on the talk page, brackets and all: {{OTRS pending}}

If you decide you don't wish to release the material into public domain or under the terms of GFDL, you are welcome to rewrite the text from scratch at this temporary page. As long as the material is otherwise compliant with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, it will be used to replace the previous contents. Please leave a note at Talk:Werner Dahm saying you have done so.

Update regarding copyright concern

Since we do not yet have verification of permission by the processes set out above and sufficient time has passed since the placement of the notice, the text you added to the article has been deleted for copyright concerns. This deletion is not necessarily permanent. If you have already sent a letter to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), the text may be restored when that letter is received and processed by the Wikimedia Communications committee. Likewise, if you have not yet sent a letter, you still may (or resend it, if you believe your original may have been lost), and the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed.

As Wikipedia does not require proof of identity on account creation, it is essential that we receive external proof of authorization in order to ensure that we remain compliant with US Copyright law. It is also essential that we verify that copyright holders understand the extent of the release they are authorizing, in that GFDL permits modification and reuse in any forum, even commercial publication, as long as authorship credit is maintained.

Photo sources

Hi, when you upload a photo like File:SAB Members in 1952.png, can you please tell where you obtained it from? If you got it from an internet site, please give the URL. If you have the physical photo in your possession because it was passed down to you from your deceased relative and you scanned it in, please say that. So here are some of the photos you have uploaded that need some information:

• File:Aerial view of the Pentagon.jpg - it is already on Commons as File:The Pentagon US Department of Defense building.jpg, so I'm going to delete your's and replace it with the one that is already here.
• File:SAB Now.png - where is this image from? There is no source given here at all. If it is public domain (by virtue of being created by the federal government), it's probably okay to use, but probably not okay if it is copyrighted.
• File:SAB Then.png - where is this image from? It may very well be public domain, but you need to say where you obtained it from.
• File:SAB Members in 1952.png - where is this image from? It may very well be public domain, but you need to say where you obtained it from.
• File:Doolittle Award.png - where is this from? If it came from the internet, provide a link. As with File:SAB Now.png, we can probably use it if it is public domain, but not if it is copyrighted.

Thank you for uploading File:SABlogo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged.
