Disambiguation link notification for October 8[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Hobart Zoo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lavatory (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Turnagra (talk) 23:18, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have to say I'm rather surprised given my others have been accepted with far less citations and sourcing. Sorry I don't know how to do an info box at this stage and my citations are more than reliable they're solid robust sources. So I'm rather at a loss on this as to 'why' it's not accepted. Thanks anyway. Zoohistorian (talk) 02:33, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry - I'm still getting my head around the process and have been erring on the side of caution a bit! It's a great article don't get me wrong, but the key thing for me was that all but one of the sources are primary sources from old newspapers. Ideally we need some secondary sources talking about the subject too, just to get that side of things covered. I'm happy to whip up an infobox if you want - my go-to is to find an article about a similar thing {eg. Public Trust Building) and just sort of copy over what they've done.
Don't get me wrong though, I think it's a great article and it's very nearly there - just needs that final little bit I think! Turnagra (talk) 03:44, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The point is I'm using secondary sources aka old newspapers.Primary sources are things like land titles, primary documentation such as first-hand accounts, letters etc. We're talking history here so it's impossible to cite other sources because they don't exist. Yes I know I sound a bit sniffy but my point is 'what' other sources would you like me to consult? I'm a historian and to historians past news is always secondary source not primary.Yes please re info box. Cheers Zoohistorian (talk) 04:37, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's a fair point, along with the heritage listing. I had in my mind things like books / academic writing, but that may be difficult I suppose. At any rate, I've undone my decline which puts it back in the draft pool in the hope that someone else with a bit more experience in the AfC process takes a look. Sorry again about this, I do think the articles you've done are great but was just wanting to make sure they're on the mark and stand the best chance of getting through the hoops wikipedia throws around! Since I won't be the reviewer, I'll get the infobox sorted now and then you'll hopefully be able to use that as a basis for the other articles you work on. Turnagra (talk) 07:20, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do appreciate your feedback and suggestions. It's a hard one I know. A lot of publications relating to local history sadly are either out of print and hard to access or no longer are accessible at all. Thank you for your compliments and help. Hopefully I can find other sources but chances for this site are next to zero. Thanks for your time it's highly appreciated. Zoohistorian (talk) 08:05, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've taken a stab at the infobox - there are a bunch of parameters but don't feel as though they all have to be filled out, since the same template (and even more parameters) is used for all buildings on wikipedia. You can check out Template:infobox building for more info and guidance on how to use it.
As an aside, I think the addition of the architecture section and KDC link is the sort of stuff which helps, though I would suggest rewording that section a bit. At the moment, the wording is very close to what was used by the council, which risks a copyright issue kicking up when the article gets reviewed. Turnagra (talk) 19:00, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. Yes it was a bit of a hard one that re the architecture. I'll rewrite it. It's also kind of awkwardly written too now I think about it. Appreciate your feedback every bit helps. Zoohistorian (talk) 20:08, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
