  • This is my local library. If are coming by Elm street be aware there is no direct entrance at all near Elm even though the building is RIGHT THERE. You have to turn on Duchesne and then turn again at the four way stop and THEN there will be an entrance at the far end of the parking lot. If you are coming up Duchesne, be sure not to pass up your turn at the four-way stop which is BEFORE the library. It is a very nice library. It has a cafe area with soda and coffee machines and several comfortable spots for gathering. I suggest we meet by the fireplace, or pick some where else specific, because there isn't hardly any seating in the entrance lobby.--BirgitteSB 06:26, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WLL discussion[edit]

The page at WP:WLL is pretty confusing about what is entailed, but I kind of like the idea of choosing a St. Louis library for an October meetup. If we could pre-arrange sufficient computer space, we could have an editing event where we use the library's resources to expand one or more articles about something St. Louis-related (maybe even an article about the library itself?). Any thoughts on a good location, or a good expansion topic? --Elonka 16:17, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(followup) I went ahead and emailed both the St. Charles and St. Louis library systems, to see if there's any interest. We might also want to contact the Washington University Library, since that's probably the largest in the city. Parking is a hassle though. UMSL Library is another option, though personally I'd rather go with a public library rather than a university library. Anyone else have thoughts/suggestions? --Elonka 16:19, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
All of the libraries in the Municipal Library Consortium have good facilities and I suspect most have internet. I don't know about meeting our other goals.--Chaser2 (talk) 05:44, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Whichever we pick, we should do it quickly. I heard back from the St. Louis County Library main office, and they said their libraries are already all booked for October, but they might be interested in doing something next year. --Elonka 14:18, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Libraries indicating interest[edit]

  • Kathryn Linnemann Library,[3] a large renovated library near downtown St. Charles, is interested in hosting an event. Date tbd, one of the last 3 weekends in October. Computers can be reserved a couple days in advance, there's free wi-fi, and a large "local history" research section.
    • Confirmed. Our event will be on Saturday, October 15th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kathryn Linnemann Library in St. Charles.[4] I tried to get an afternoon slot, but they're already booked. On the plus side, the library has plenty of parking, free wi-fi, and the Local History librarian will be in attendance. I'll be giving a PowerPoint presentation to the public, "Tips for Using Wikipedia", so anyone else that wants to join in and help answer questions, c'mon by! --Elonka 02:44, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'm also offering attendance to this event as extra-credit to my St. Charles Community College students who are working on Wikipedia this semester. --MTHarden (talk) 16:18, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • Very cool, I look forward to meeting them! Do they have Wikipedia accounts? If so, nudge them to signup here on this page, so we have a rough count? --Elonka 23:19, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Meetup followup[edit]

The WLL meetup was a success, thanks to everyone for coming! We had about 10 people show up, including three experienced Wikipedians (and one experienced Wiki-source admin!). We added several facts to St. Louis-related articles, and then tried to do some DYK reviews, before being kicked out of the room for the next talk. Overall though, it was a lot of fun, and I look forward to the next meetup! --Elonka 19:10, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
