John Patrick "Jack" Douglass (born June 30, 1988), better known as jacksfilms, is an American YouTuber. Douglass began his online career in 2006. His YouTube channel initially consisted of infomercial parodies, sketches, and comedic music videos. As his audience grew, he expanded into comedy series centered around viewer comments and submissions, such as Your Grammar Sucks (YGS), in which he makes fun of incorrect grammar; JackAsk, in which he answers questions about himself (often satirically); and Yesterday I Asked You (YIAY j), initially a segment at the end of JackAsk, which later became a standalone series, in which he asks questions to his audience, and they give answers for him to react to. In October 2020, Douglass announced the end of YGS and JackAsk,<ref group ="‡">{{Cite tweet|number=1320459048358010880|user=jacksfilms|title=I know a lot of you are concerned about me ending YGS and JackAsk, but I promise it's for the best - these shows feel like obligations at this point, and they're holding me back from creating genuinely fresh stuff. On January 8, 2014, Douglass launched a new series titled JackAsk, in which he answers viewers' questions in a satirical way. The intro and logo for the series are a reference to the TV series of a similar name, Jackass. The last episode of the original JackAsk was released on October 21, 2020.

On February 3, 2015, Douglass started a daily series on his secondary channel jackisanerd, titled Yesterday I Asked You (YIAY), in which he would ask his viewers a question and then read his favorite answers to the viewers. After 15 days of uploading YIAY videos to his second channel, jackisanerd, he moved the series to his main channel, jacksfilms, and has released episodes on it since. As of February 2022, he has uploaded 600 episodes, making it the series with the most installments on his channel. He also briefly operated a live version of this series known as YIAY LIVE (in which he had live viewers on Twitch compete for the best answer to a given question), which was cancelled due to the large amount of technical difficulties. Many other series, like PewDiePie's LWIAY (Last Week I Asked You), Davie504's SDAIAY (Some Days Ago I Asked You), Aloona Larionova's STTA (Show This To Aloona), Roomie's SIOR (Slap It On Reddit), ElectroBOOM's LATITY (Last Time I Told You) were inspired by YIAY.

The podcast was set to be hosted by Douglass himself, as well as his wife, Erin. The name of the podcast is in reference to comments made by fans of the jacksfilms channel in the past, where whenever Erin would make an appearance, many of the comments would say that she should host the channel, and that she was funnier than Douglass.

The podcast's first episode aired on June 28, 2021. The show starts with the "Wine of the Week" segment, in which Douglass or Erin choose a wine, and review it for the audience. This is generally followed by the main segment where the hosts talk about the episode's "subject", which is most often a quiz created by either, an example includes guessing whether a quote was from The Alex Jones Show or The Onion. The last segment is "Horoscopes", where Douglass or Erin come up with horoscopes for the other to read. Overtime, the segment has shifted from horoscopes for all the zodiac signs to a Mad Libs-type game for only the current season's zodiac sign. The podcast is ongoing, despite a short hiatus from December 2021 to February 2022.

John Patrick "Jack" Douglass (born June 30, 1988),[‡ 1] better known as jacksfilms, is an American YouTuber. Douglass began his online career in 2006. His YouTube channel initially consisted of infomercial parodies, sketches, and comedic music videos.

Early life and education

Douglass was born in Columbia, Maryland, on June 30, 1988, and is primarily of Irish ancestry.[‡ 2][‡ 3] He has two older sisters. Douglass went to school in Maryland. During high school, he started to develop a love for music. He then began to play the French horn as well as the piano.

In May 2006, during his senior year of high school, he created short video sketches due to a school assignment, leading him to decide to make more films. By the next month, started using YouTube and uploading videos.[‡ 1]

After graduating from Atholton High School, Douglass attended American University, where he majored in film and minored in music theory.[1]

YouTube career

Douglass launched his main YouTube channel, jacksfilms, on June 26, 2006.[‡ 4] Later, he uploaded The WTF Blanket (Snuggie Parody) on January 22, 2009,[1][2][3][4] which has become his most popular video.[5] Many of Douglass' early videos were parodies, often about infomercials, and Apple or Samsung phones.[6][7][8]In June 2011, Douglass began the series Your Grammar Sucks, mocking internet comments with excessive grammatical and spelling errors. On June 27, 2013, the jacksfilms channel reached 1 million subscribers.[9] In 2014, Douglass' channel jacksfilms was listed on NewMediaRockstars' list of the top 100 YouTube channels, ranked at #54.[10]

On January 8, 2014, Douglass launched a new series titled JackAsk, in which he answers viewers' questions in a satirical way. On February 3, 2015, Douglass started a daily series on his secondary channel jackisanerd, titled Yesterday I Asked You (YIAY), in which he would ask his viewers a question and then read his favorite answers to the viewers.

In 2016 and 2017, Douglass released a series of phone commercial parodies, on the first-generation iPhone SE,[11] Galaxy S8,[12] and iPhone X.[13][14] These parodies received media attention from CNET[14][11] and Kotaku.[11] On April 15, 2018, Douglass won the 2018 Shorty Award for YouTuber of the Year, which he accepted while dressed in a Garfield costume.[15]

After Douglass made videos poking fun at the Emoji Movie, on July 20, he received a package from the film's marketing team, thanking him for being "the [No. 1] fan of The Emoji Movie".[16] They invited him to the world premiere on July 23, and sent Emoji Movie-related merchandise.[16]

On January 4, 2021, Douglass took to his YouTube channel and other social media accounts to announce YIAY TIME: The Game Show, a new YouTube Originals show.[17] It premiered the next day on January 5, 2021, for free on Douglass' YouTube channel.[18]
