RFC/discussion of article World War II

Hello, Jiang. As a prominent contributor to World War II, you may want to be aware that a request for comments has been filed about it. The RFC can be found by the article's name in this list, and the actual discussion can be found on Talk:World War II, in case you wish to participate. Thank you for your contributions. -- Krellis 01:18, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mind helping me restore my edit on this page? Jumping Cheese and Certified Gangster seem to insist on reverting my edit despite the citation provided, yet insist on keeping their own edits despite their inability and unwillingness to provide one. It seems by both reverting, they're trying to lure me into tripping the 3RR instead of actually trying to seriously debate or justify their edits.--Yuje 00:58, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taiwan-ROC mass moves

Hi. Any thoughts about Ideogram's mass moves of ROC to Taiwan-titled entires? Best, El_C 18:59, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Could you please try to find the other 3 names that are still written in Chinese in the article asap so it doesn't get listed back on WP:PNT? A couple of other issues: 1) the Thomas Huang link on that page is probably not the same Thomas Huang that was mayor of Taipei and 2) there are a lot of dangling brackets and parentheses in the list; can you fix those, too, please? Thanks! -Yupik 16:00, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I put up some suggestions on Taiwan legal status, would you please take a look? Some things need to be changed about MacArthur General Order No.1. Give me some feedback, see if you can make some changes, I can't do it. I just joined Wiki. Thanks. Redcloud822 16:05, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mayor of Beijing

Hi Jiang. Kudos for the list of governors. The only bad thing is that it doesn't contain the CPC Committee Secretary list, which is the first-in-charge of any region. Is there a chance you could find something like that? Colipon+(T) 05:42, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Oil_well_firess.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Oil_well_firess.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:37, 28 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yonatan talk 08:37, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you need a more specific source rather than just a whole domain. Thanks, Yonatan talk 02:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually looking through that website looking for your images and couldn't find them. I'm an admin on commons and I wanted to move them there (a copy of them is on the hebrew wikipedia) which is how I found them but they will be deleted from commons if I upload them and don't provide a source. Taiwanese People

Jiang,

Thanks for the contribution. I appreciate your years of hard work on Wiki. I think you are the first wikipedian I encountered in 2003. I reverted your edit for the time being until we can determine how to proceed on the Taiwanese People page. See the discussion page for details on the current impasse. We'd appreciate your input.Maowang 02:01, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What Maowang said. :-) --Ling.Nut 02:34, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The GIO has changed its tune to include 60 ethnic minorities and a Han majority. I wonder who they are? Anyone know? It could be an ambiguous reference to China's 56 "minzu" or it might be a nod to multiculturalism. Maowang 03:28, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

A request for arbitration has been filed regarding the conduct of Certified.Gangsta.

Can I trouble you to write a statement at Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram recounting your interactions with him and your impressions of his conduct as an editor?

Thanks.

Hello,

An Arbitration case in which you commented has been opened: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram. Please add any evidence you may wish the arbitrators to consider to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram/Evidence. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram/Workshop.

Tian'anmen Photo

As you may know, a user removed the Tian'anmen "Tank Man" photo from the PRC article. He claimed it was a non-fair-use image; whether his timing was POV--as it were--is unknown. Do you know of any other versions of the photo that could be substituted? Thanks! --Dpr 14:52, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:McNamara.gif listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:McNamara.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 23:49, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Political divisions of China

Political divisions of the Republic of China is a separate article from Political divisions of China. "of China" was previously named "of the PRC" but was renamed at some point in the past. Why did you restore a bunch of ROC stuff in the China article, remove the dab header, and remove the PRC template? It's not about the ROC. SchmuckyTheCat 21:21, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent vandalism will not be tolerated. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --WikiSlasher 13:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

Oh, just in case you didn't notice, I indefinitely blocked you for vandalism. - Mark 14:04, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Jiang (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

My password, which was insecure, was compromised. I have changed my password. Please email me to confirm my identity and I will reply to your email. Before lifting the block, please make sure that MediaWiki software automatically logs out the vandal who logged in under my old password name.--Jiang 14:05, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please include a decline or accept reason.

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

There's no way to verify that it's really the admin in question and not the hacker. We need to assume that the hacker changed the password and email address and now has full control of the account. Sorry, but if this really is you, your insecure password just cost you your account. You should have known better than to use an insecure password for something so important. --Cyde Weys 14:09, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My email address has a different PW, but there's no way for me to prove this. Could I have a Wikipedian in good standing I've met IRL vouch for me? Or can you run a Checkuser to show this acct was edited from two very different IPs? --Jiang 14:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's another issue at play though: Why should we trust you to be an admin again? Your failure to take adequate security measures already got us a Tubgirl on the top of every page on Wikipedia. I and many others no longer trust you to have access to the bit anyway. --Cyde Weys 14:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As for the CheckUser issue: So what? Maybe you just went rogue and did it from an open proxy? That's a convenient excuse for anyone who is going rogue to get another shot at it. --Cyde Weys 14:16, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that if he demonstrates conclusively that he is Jiang, not sure how, then he should be resysoped. If he is to lose his bit for carelessness that should be done through arbcom. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 14:18, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, I agree with this. -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 14:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Which password got guessed? HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 14:24, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like I wasn't the only one whose account was compromised. I've since changed it to something 8+ digits, combination of letters and numbers with none resembling a dictionary word. The developers may be able to verify this if PWs are not encrypted....--Jiang 14:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No can do; they're one-way encrypted. —Cryptic 14:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But what was the password that the hacker guessed? HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 14:29, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, it was "fuckyou"--Jiang 14:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That is a very common password. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 14:33, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That must have been embarrassing, eh? :P I'll have to admit, my password used to consist of profanity, although I later changed it to some much more secure. :) --Ixfd64 01:06, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I was being dumb. I chose it over four years ago and have since stopped using something this stupid. I am going around and changing this from all my leftover accounts.--Jiang 14:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hope this works out for you. I am going to go make my password even stronger than it is now. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 14:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

I've unblocked you, because you used your email account to reply to me. Could you please get people who know you well on-wiki to email me and confirm what your usual email address is, so I know that it is your genuine email address? - Mark 14:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What if Jiang used the same password for the e-mail account and the hacker hijacked that too? We need to confirm via CheckUser that the above messages were posted from Jiang's usual location and ISP. —David Levy 16:04, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is what it looks like with CheckUser. All five bad logged actions (uploading the image, editing the sitenotice, blocking Jimbo, deleting the main page, and just this first talk page edit [2]) came from an open proxy 61.14.156.46. Subsequent edits to this talk page come from an IP that Jiang has used before, so it seems very likely to be the real him. Dmcdevit·t 18:01, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Given that evidence and the vandalism's suddenness, it certainly appears that Jiang has regained control of a previously compromised account. —David Levy 18:09, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Jiang, I've unblocked you as I am satisfied it is the real you. I'm not quite sure what will happen about the adminship at this point; maybe a bureaucrat will restore it. Dmcdevit·t 03:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think in the future we should be willing to unblock these compromised accounts promptly following a plausible request, and then do the necessary investigation to determine whether it's safe to restore sysop status. As a non-admin vandal, there is no real threat. Everyking 03:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to have to bring this up again, but....

Hi Jiang, I was wondering if you could perhaps provide your input into the ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Chinese)#Proposed guidelines? I know this issue has been done to hell and back over the last couple of years, but User:TingMing asserts that a cabal of TI editors (consisting mainly of editors who object to his universal replacement edits, of whom I am apparently one) is unfairly oppressing him. As you may already know, this thing has turned into an edit war spilling over onto multiple articles. Efforts at establishing some sort of compromise are going nowhere. Any insight or suggestions you could provide on the issues in dispute would be greatly appreciated. -Loren 01:16, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
