Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Qwazywabbit. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that: you don't have at least 250 mainspace edits. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank again for your interest in VandalProof. <i><b><font color = "darkmagenta">Snowolf</font> <small><font color = "darkmagenta">How can I help?</font></small></b></i> 01:45, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

An Automated Message from HagermanBot

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! HagermanBot 13:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amaraiel, just wanted to add my voice to encourage to keep contributing. Good pages are made that way by bold editors making well-intentioned changes, other well-intentioned editors boldly revising them, followed by more well-intentioned discussions to discover and resolve the core ideas behind the changes - see WP:BRD. Your merge proposal was indeed bold, which is good. With more experience, you would have known to pre-emptively describe your reasoning behind the tag on the talk page. I agree with others that you were, as a new editor, unfairly bitten in the process. However, please take it as a positive sign that other editors interpreted your use of a somewhat advanced feature (i.e. to merge articles) as an indication that you were a more experienced editor than may have been the case. Also, it's helpful to remember that 99%+ of the edits here are made in good faith - if something sounds borderline nasty, it's best to assume that the apparent nastiness is due to the medium and just adjust your mental filters to correct for it. Hope this helps - and I hope you keep contributing! Ronnotel 15:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protection

Your user page says it is protected...but in actuality it isn't. Do you require protection? IrishGuy talk 02:49, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't bother with the template, and especially don't add it as a bluff before the page has actually been protected. It's better, I think, with this type of vandal, if he doesn't realize the page is protected and thus wastes his time trying to make an edit that won't go through. Waste his time like he wastes yours. --Dynaflow 02:55, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Template Removed. Thanks for the input. --Amaraiel 02:59, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just a thought: Since you want to make a real contribution to Wikipedia; seem to have an natural, pugilistic loathing for vandals; and don't seem to mind becoming a target youself, you may want to join the Recent Changes Patrol once you feel comfortable enough with WP protocol to chase down vandals and spammers with efficiency and confidence. --Dynaflow 03:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I gave you a 48 hour protection on your user page. Hope it helps. IrishGuy talk 03:09, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

My first barnstar. I've moved it to my main page so it can party with the userboxes and Emperor Norton when I'm not looking. --Dynaflow 18:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

67.158.110.194

I'm sorry, but I'm not an admin. Report it here:Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism and mention it's a school ip. School ip's can get extended bans, especially troublesome ones. HalfShadow 04:25, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like they're a non-issue anyway:18:24, 8 May 2007 Alphachimp (Talk | contribs) blocked "67.158.110.194 (contribs)" (anon. only, account creation blocked) with an expiry time of September 2007.

Generally, just follow procedure: warn 'em, if they don't get the hint, report 'em once they get to level 4 or are long-timers, rinse and repeat. I generally base my actions on the situation: if it's constant or something really disgusting, I'll do a level 3 or 4 warning. I generally start with 2; most vandals know exactly what they're doing. HalfShadow 04:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto. For really egregious stuff, even if it's a first edit by the account, I'll give them a 4im-level warning (the ones at the end of each line at WP:UWT. That way, the next person to catch them doing something stupid can just take them straight to AIV rather than dicking around with more templates. As our brilliant President says, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ... shame on ... uh ... um ... Fuck it. *BLAM*" --Dynaflow 04:53, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I should add, though, that by "really egregious stuff," I don't mean replacing the entire article on UC Berkeley with the word "poop." That's child's play, literally. It's things like screwing up templates, attacking pages "behind the curtain" (stuff that the average public user or dilettante editor will never find, like ANI, AIV, the policy pages, etc.), subtle plants of disinformation on out-of-the-way articles, and other kinds of vandalism that betray an intimate knowledge of how WP works. Those are the most "dangerous" vandals, and the ones who should be blocked with all deliberate speed and prejudice. --Dynaflow babble 05:23, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Heart-Amaraiel-.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Zenvisionm.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Zenvisionm.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 22:55, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimania in Atlanta!

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 04:07, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SummerThunder

I was looking around peoples talk pages (bored out of my mind) and noticed talk of SummerThunder. Did he come back? --Amaraiel 04:56, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I know what you mean with the boredom bit. I've been working on reprogramming a database for work since about noon, and it's about 1:30 AM now (hooray for the privilege of telecommuting on Labor Day ... bleagh...). A bit of Wikimusement is most welcome.
SummerThunder has indeed been back, though he's been more focused lately on posting his screeds in articles related to the People's Republic of China than on screwing with articles in my usual domain. I've gotta say it again, I agree in general with the guy's politics (against the Chinese government's efforts to censor the web, wanting to spread the word about various abuses within the PRC, pointing out that it can be a slippery slope between contributing the encyclopedia and obsessive-compulsively letting it -- or anything else on the Internet -- take a huge chunk out of your IRL productivity, etc.). However, the way he promotes his views is just so obnoxious, strident, and uncompromising that I can't see any way he could make a net positive contribution here, barring some kind of Come to Zuul-type conversion experience.
SummerThunder's LTA page has recently been updated: Wikipedia:Long term abuse/SummerThunder. Peruse it if you'd like. If you see him at "work," remember -- just report and revert. Don't pick any fights with the guy. He seems to enjoy those.
It's good to see you back. I was wondering what had become of you. --Dynaflow babble 08:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I rv'd some offtopic posts to the talk page at Freenode that you made, but to answer the question you posed, try another server before another port: http://irc.netsplit.de/networks/details.php.en?net=freenode&submenu=days The port's less likely to have a real impact, if your ISP isn't doing naughty things. Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary, which wasn't included with your recent edit to Template:Vandalism information. Thank you. I'm just using a standard template, but I mean this as a friendly notice. It's good to use edit summary, because it tells other people what you did and, if you ever get nominated to become an Admin, they would choose a person with a higher edit summary rate than a person with a low edit summary rate, if everything else was similar between the two noms. Twinkle

I'm use TW with Firefox version 5.0 and it works fine. Wikipedia's about the only thing I use Firefox for, because it has compatibility issues with a lot of other sites, but it works great here. You also might want to make sure you have the most current version of Sun Java. That's the best advice I can give you --- I don't know/have Vista yet. Stuck in the stone age with lousy old XP. Cheers! Into The Fray T/C 05:09, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hrrm. I've never had a problem with it. Does Firefox maybe have some Vista compatibility issues? Not sure. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. You're right, it is early. Or late, depending on your perspective. I'm off to bed. You have a good night. Into The Fray T/C 05:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the reversions. TTN basically has a mentality that he will do what he wants and his will is consensus. He referenced a discussion as his backup which had no final resolution and was only him and another person basically saying this was what they wanted to do against two people who weren't in agreement. It gets annoying when you work hard on something for someone to just delete every last thing because he wants in that way but can't be bothered to correct the problems. I'll refrain for now.Darkwarriorblake 19:20, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You might still want to give it some time...

Hey Amaraiel! Its very brave of you to take the plunge and try for adminship but I recommend you withdraw your nomination. The reasons why are the following might concern those at your RFA:

 1. You just started using WP:AIV since September 6th (though I'm sure you are aware by now how the vandal dispatching procedure works, others may think you have just begun to understand the process)
 2. You only have participated in one deletion discussion (the deletion process is one a admin candidate should be experienced in.
 3. You have not participated much in policy discussions or the various admin noticeboards.

However, on the other hand, I see you are very familiar with how the CSD process works (which is a good thing), you are a highly civil user, your edit count is decent, you have been with the project for an adequate amount of time, and you seem to have very good judgment. Just work on the areas I mentioned and reapply sometime later, you'll pass for sure.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 21:55, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

They seem to be bigots of the Kannadachauvenist organisations. Please stop them or I'll have no option than to quit wikipedia. Vandalism accusation

I resent being accused of vandalism in the article on Tiny Toon Adventures. I was CORRECTING vandalism. There are no such characters on the show as "Grubber" or "Count Him".
