The Pemberton Festival is a three-day summer music festival inaugurated in 2008. It is held in Pemberton, British Columbia, a village just north of popular ski resort Whistler. Produced by Live Nation, the festival features primarily rock and indie rock musicians, with a small proportion of hip hop. Musicians play on one of two stages, picturesquely situated at the foot of Mount Currie and the surrounding mountain range. The site, a 500-acre hayfield, was discovered by concert-promoter, Shane Bourbonnais, of Live Nation, just down the street from his vacation home[1].
The festival is only available as a full three-day pass, thus, festival-goers are encouraged to camp out on the festival's camping grounds,[2] while additional accommodation is available in the form of neighbouring hotels, inns and lodges.
Organizers have emphasized event sustainability and environmentalism as priorities in running the festival.[3]
Festival Site
The festival site is based on a large grass field located at the base of Mt. Currie which is over 8300 feet high.
The festival village is open from 11:00 AM and closes at 2:00 AM. There will be two different stages and a dance tent. B-Stage will be open from 2:00 PM to 7:15 PM and the Main Stage will be open from 4:15 PM to 11:00 PM. The dance tent will be open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM.
The festival site will be equipped with toilets, washing facilities, medical facilities, a general store, vendors, food vendors, farmers market, fun zone, kid’s zone, and an art walk displaying art from local artists as well and multiple themed bars.
Campgrounds
The campground is connected directly to the festival grounds and allows people to travel to an from their campsites whenever they please. You must be 19 or older to use the campgrounds. There is a family campground as well which requires a parent or gaurdian over 19 to use. An RV site is available as well.
The campground will have 24 hour security, toilets, cooling stations, wash facilities, general store, and a campground clubhouse including a bar that will serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as food service from 7:00 AM - 3:00 AM daily. A noise curfew of 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM applies in the main camgrounds and 12:00AM to 7:00AM in the family campgrounds and RV site.
2008
The festival's inaugural year, to be held between July 25-27, 2008, will be headlined by Coldplay, Tom Petty, Jay-Z, Nine Inch Nails, Tragically Hip, and the Flaming Lips. Inside sources to the band Radiohead have confirmed rumours that the band will also headline the festival despite its absence from the lineup so far.[citation needed] The announcement is expected to be sometime in mid-April.
