Pink concert chronology |
The Funhouse Tour is the fourth concert tour by American singer-songwriter P!nk. The tour supports her fifth studio album, Funhouse.[1][2]
The tour has grossed around $58,000,000 from 38 cities, with total ticket sales estimated at 2 million. Total tour gross, as reported to Billboard Boxscore, stands at $64,946,819 (excluding gross profit from 34 European shows between March and April in 2009). The Funhouse Tour is the most successful tour by a female solo artist in Australia to date.
Background
The tour was announced on October 14, 2008, nearly two weeks before the release of her fifth studio album. Pink stated, "I'm so excited to get back on the road. The 'Funhouse' tour ideas are running rampant in my head. Who knows what they'll come out as... And I can't wait to see."[1] The tour will follow her internationally successful I'm Not Dead Tour, which became one of the biggest tours in 2006 and 2007. After a long discussion as to whether Moore was going to perform in her home country of the United States, it was officially announced on April 2, 2009. The tour will start in Antwerp and will end in Hannover.
Ticket sales
Sales started on October 10 in the Netherlands. The February 28 show sold out quickly and it was announced that a second show was scheduled for the next day, March 1. According to the source there are still some tickets left for the second show when a third show was announced on December 5 again in The Ahoy.[3] The first kick off show was in Belgium which was sold out according to the reviews.[4]
In Australia, ticket sales were exceptionally high. In 2007 she broke the record of biggest female tour ever with 35 shows in Australia, grossing $41 million. In 2009, she broke her own record, with 58 shows surpassing John Farnham's & Kylie Minogue's most shows in Australia.[5] She will perform 17 shows at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, breaking Farnham's record for most amount of shows at the venue in one tour[5]. Pink will also perform 10 shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and 12 shows in Sydney altogether. 650,000 tickets have been sold thus far for her Australian tour.[5] It is estimated that the Australian leg will gross over $80 million.[6]
Overall ticket sales are estimated to have surpassed 2 million.[7]
Pollstar Worldwide Tours estimate for the first half of 2009 shows that the Funhouse Tour has grossed $50,800,000 so far from 38 cities with total ticket sales at 788,991 grossing an average of $1,336,799 per show. It is currently ranked the eight best selling tour of 2009. She is the third best selling solo artist on the list behind Tina Turner and Britney Spears.[8]

Notes
- "It's All Your Fault" was replaced by "Don't Let Me Get Me" after the Antwerp show. Both were sung at the Antwerp show.
- On the 11/4 in Glasgow, Pink came off stage and walked around the crowd during "Get The Party Started" and "Glitter In The Air." No aerobatics. Technical faults were cited.
- On the 11/4 and 12/4, Pink said it was the loudest crowd she'd had since the tour started in February. She posted a blog on her myspace and official website that explained how amazing the Glasgow crowds had been.
- On the 13/4 in Aberdeen and 17/4 in Birmingham, Pink did not perform "Sober."
- On the 13/4, 26/4, 28/4 and 29/4, Pink did not perform any bungee moves for "Get The Party Started."
- On the 19/4 in Dublin, Pink forgot the lyrics to "I Don't Believe You." She continued from the chorus, but then she said "I don't want to do the song any more." Instead she sang "Redemption Song." She also forgot the lyrics on the 16/4 in Birmingham. But unlike Dublin, she finished the song.
- On the 22/4 in Belfast, Pink did not finish "Glitter in the Air." Her mic got wet, causing a huge screech through the arena, and wouldn't work again.
- On the 28/4 in Newcastle, Pink forgot the first verse to "Who Knew." She said it was "too loud" and she couldn't hear the music. She continued from the chorus. Pink also forgot the lyrics to "Crystal Ball" and started the song again. "Sober" was not performed.
- On the 29/4 in Liverpool, Pink did not perform "Ave Mary A." She also didn't perform trapeze for "Sober" or bungee for "Get This Party Started".
- On the 1/5 in London, Pink said it was the first time she'd remembered all the words to "Crystal Ball." She also said this on the 11/4 in Glasgow and 17/4 in Birmingham. On 2/5 she said it was the fifth time she'd finished the whole song.
- On 1/5 Pink slipped off her silk during "Glitter In The Air." Instead of singing, "have you ever felt this way," she said, "have you ever felt... scared shitless!" She added, "If I'd fallen, would you guys have laughed? I would."
- On 2/5 in London, Pink took over six minutes to sing "I Don't Believe You." She stopped after every verse and talked to the audience. She said it was a special "off-the record" version. She added the song was very "stalkerish."
- On the 22/5 in Perth, Pink forgot the lyrics (twice) to "I Don't Believe You", but finished the song.
- On the 23/5 in Perth, Pink forgot how to play "I Don't Believe You" on guitar. She remembered from the chorus. She was also hit in the head with a guitar, by her guitarist, and had to have a short break.
- On the 16/6 in Brisbane, Pink's safety line snapped during "Get The Party Started." She was left stranded and hanging for over a minute until a silk could be dropped. She unhooked her harness and slid down. "Glitter in the Air" was not performed.
- On the 20/6 and 21/6 in Melbourne, Pink did not perform "Ave Mary A" and "Sober." This may have been because of time constraints. Pink arrived on stage 15 minutes later than usual.
- On the 26/6 in Sydney, Pink dedicated the whole show to Michael Jackson, who had died that day (Australian time).
- On the 27/6 in Sydney, Pink stopped "I Don't Believe You" before the chorus because she didn't think she was a good enough guitar player to keep up with the clapping of the crowd. She continued the song from the chorus, minus the clapping.
- On 30/6 Sydney show, Pink performed "It's All Your Fault" for the first time on the tour since the Antwerp show in February.
- On the 22/7, 23/7, 25/7 and 27/7 shows in Brisbane, Pink did not perform "It's All Your Fault" or "Ave Mary A." Sober was not performed on the 22/7.
- On the 27/7 in Brisbane, Pink stopped during "I Don't Believe You" because her guitarist made a mistake. She praised herself because it was the first time she hadn't stuffed up. She said she hoped someone recorded it to post on YouTube.
- On the 4/8 in Adelaide, Pink forgot the words to Family Portrait. She went into the crowd to find someone who could remember the words. Later on in the night she commented on how "Lip synchers don't have this problem."
- On the 8/8 in Perth, Pink did not perform "Sober."
- On the 10/8 in Adelaide, Pink did not perform "Sober" or "Ave Mary A". She was restricted in her aerial work, was not lifted by her dancers during "Bad Influence" or "Funhouse." She kept her feet firmly on the ground during "Get the Party Started" - No bungee moves.
- On the 13/8 In Melbourne, Pink stopped various times throughout "I Don't Believe You" To talk about what she was thinking while singing, which was a Kangaroo named Dusty she had met earlier that day.
- On the 22/8 and 23/8 in Wollongong, there was no supporting act before the show. On the 22/8, Pink did not perform "It's All Your Fault." At the same show, she forgot the lyrics to "I Don't Believe You" and did not perform any bungee moves during "Get the Party Started."
- On 23/8 in Wollongong , Pink's roadies celebrated her 100th Funhouse show with a special performance of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" dance. They also performed on the 26/8 in Brisbane and on the 29/8 in Sydney.
- On the 23/8 Pink did not do any aerial work during "Get The Party Started." Instead she came off stage and signed a fan's programme. She also gave him a kiss.

- On the 24/9 in Houston, Pink did not perform "Ave Mary A," "It's All Your Fault" and "Sober."
- On the 3/9 in Philadelphia, Pink did not perform "Ave Mary A" or "It's All Your Fault." She did not attempt the trapeze for "Sober," but did perform aerial stunts for "Bad Influence", "Get the Party Started" and "Glitter in the Air". Pink's mother, brother and other family members were in attendance. Her mom wore a cape that said, "I'm the Mom." Pink said she'd waited 30 years to play at the Wachovia Center and it was all "such a trip." During "I Don't Believe You" Pink stopped before the first chorus and said, "Oh, you guys cant clap like that, I'm not good enough."
- Pink performed the US leg of her Funhouse Tour with a separated shoulder. She did not want to cancel any shows, given her long wait to headline in her homeland. The injury meant she couldn't perform any of her regular aerial moves for "Get the Party Started" and "Sober." However, she did perform aerial moves for "Get the Party Started" in later shows, including Philadelphia.
- On the 20/10 and 21/10 in Glasgow, Pink did not perform "It's All Your Fault/Ave Mary A." She did not attempt the trapeze for "Sober." "Dear Mr. President" and "Stupid Girls" where added as a change to the european set list.

- On the 28/10 in Sheffield, Pink did not perform "It's All Your Fault/Ave Mary A." She initiated another vote between "Crystal Ball" and "Dear Mr. President." "Dear Mr. President" won again.
- On the 30/10 in Birmingham, Pink did not perform "It's All Your Fault/Ave Mary A", and there was no vote initiated between "Crystal Ball" and "Dear Mr. President" - "Crystal Ball" was performed. Pink performed all acrobatics, apart from Sober. The song was still sung.

Pink also gave a very emotional performance of "Family Portrait" with great vocals during which she appeared to be crying and was hugged by the some of the backing band. Pink also said that she will have to retire the song 'Stupid Girls' due to it now being sad and not funny anymore. She also voiced her hatred for her "We've Got Scurvy" song from Spongebob Squarepants after a fan threw Spongebob Squarepants wrapping paper on stage.
Trivia
- The show will be performed 17 times in Melbourne, Australia. This means that almost 5% of the Melbourne population has or will see the show.[9]
- By the end of the ten-date tour in Sydney (the two shows edited weren't announced yet) 115,598 people will have seen the show at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. This makes her the largest concert draw ever at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, followed by Kylie Minogue who performed in front of 92,695 fans[10]
- In Brisbane, Australia the show will generated earn $13 million for all her shows there. According to this article (see reference) the whole tour in Australia will approximetly earn $56 million, though, with the addition of extra dates, the new Australian leg grossing stands at just over $70 million.[11] However, the Sunday Telegraph reported on 30 August that the Australian leg of the tour had grossed around $80 million.
- On 17/7, P!nk confirmed via a Twitter post the concert held that evening in Sydney would be recorded as part of a Funhouse Tour DVD. She said the same for the following day.[12]
- On the 25/8 Pink was honoured with a bathroom at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre for being the highest selling artist in the centres' history. She cut the ribbon and asked the audience to "visit and christen it" for her. On the 26/8 she explained she wanted a bathroom because John Farnham had a room in every building around Australia. She added, "now I want a talking wombat." The sign on the door says "P!nk Ladies," which Pink signed and wrote "don't forget to wipe."

Critical reception
- “A Pink show is more than just a pop concert – it’s a major spectacle that you can’t take your eyes off. The show was simply mesmerising.” – Aberdeen Evening Express (UK)[20]
- "Pink can rock it, that’s for sure. She has the anthems, the voice and the sass…4 stars” – The Glasgow Herald (UK)[20]
- "She's no slouch as an aerial dare-devil, but here's one rock star at her most compelling when she has two feet planted squarely on the ground." - The Independent (Ireland)[21]
- "Her singing was perfect, even when she was suspended mid-air, on her back and spinning rapidly on her harness." – ExpressandStar (Ireland)[22]
- "Headfirst she gets lifted towards the ceiling, flies over the audience, and the American sings with a quality that some of her colleagues wouldn’t be able to hold, even when they were just standing." - Rheinische Post (Germany)[23]
- A few weeks ago, as I sat in Radio City Music Hall watching Pink dangle upside down from a trapeze bar some 60 feet above my head, risking life and limb (and avoiding a wardrobe malfunction) while positively nailing the chorus of "Sober" — the smart, stunning song she co-wrote with "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi — I sort of realized something:
- Pink is totally underrated.
- Think about it. She is a fabulously fearless pop artist, as comfortable taking on George W. Bush as she is hanging like a bat from the rafters of Radio City. She is clever and funny and unflinching, willing to take her (oft volatile) personal life and turn it into grist for hit singles. She is a deceptively good singer, something she is rarely given credit for (check "Just Like a Pill" or "God Is a DJ" or the chorus of "Sober" for proof). She recorded a Beck song and wrote tunes with Rancid's Tim Armstrong. She has tons of tattoos and used to wear her hair like Wendy O. Williams from the Plasmatics. She has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, landed countless Billboard hits, and her Funhouse tour is currently the ninth highest-grossing jaunt of the year. -By James Montgomery, MTV News [24]
DVD
The tour DVD was filmed over two nights on the 17/7 and 18/7 in Sydney. Both "It's All Your Fault" and "Ave Mary A" were included. The song "One Foot Wrong" was also added to the DVD as a surprise rehearsal for 600 lucky ticket holders.
The Pink: Live In Australia DVD was released in Australia on October 14, 2009, two days before its planned release.[25] It was scheduled for release on October 2 but had to be pushed backed due to overwhelming demand.[26] On September 24 it was announced that the DVD will be released in Holland on October 28 and in the UK on November 2, 2009. An alternate version of the DVD is being offered in the United States and will be released on October 27, 2009. While the DVD titled Funhouse Tour: Live in Australia will include the same features, it will be sold with a live audio CD.
Australian conjunction
It has been confirmed that Pink and husband Carey Hart were never actually divorced. The pair will both travel to Australia where Carey will host free three-hour motocross stunt events in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Newcastle in conjunction with Pink's Funhouse Tour starting this May.[27]
The Herald Sun Melbourne reports:
"We are definitely back together," Pink said.
"We never really legally got divorced - paperwork for us is really annoying."
"This was one of the first steps," Hart said. "We had to come up with a way to be able to both go to work and both see each other."
"It's going to be a very exciting time for of us to both go to Australia and tour together for four months."
