"Manatsu no Sounds Good!" (真夏のSounds good !, "Midsummer 'Sounds good !'")[note 1] is the 26th single by the Japanese girl idol group AKB48, released in Japan on May 23, 2012.[2][3]

As of the release day, the CD single was shipped in 2.0 million copies, setting AKB48's own record. (The record was beaten a year later by "Sayonara Crawl" with 2.3 million.[4]) In its first week, the CD single sold 1,616,795 copies according to Oricon and became AKB48's bestselling single.[5] In August 2012, it was certified "2 Million" by (RIAJ.[1] On December 30, 2012, the song won the Grand Prix at the 54th Japan Record Awards, making this their second consecutive win for the group.[6]

The single is Atsuko Maeda's final recording with the group.[2][3]

Release

"Manatsu no Sounds Good" was released on May 23, 2012 in the form of several different editions. The Type-A edition consisted of a CD with six tracks, half of which were off vocal versions, and a DVD with four music videos and a member profile track.[7] Type-A was also available with an alternate cover on their first pressings.[8] The Type-B edition was also a CD+DVD, with the same tracks as Type-A, however, "Chōdai, Darling!" was replaced by "Gugutasu no Sora".[9] Type-B was also available with an alternate cover on their first pressings.[10] The Theater edition contains only the CD and has the same tracks as Type-A, but "Chōdai, Darling!" was replaced by "Kimi no Tame ni Boku Wa".[11]

The title track featured 36 members, the largest number of participants on an AKB48 single title track since "Everyday, Katyusha", which featured 26 members.[3][14]
